An important component of the interaction between macroinvertebrates and leaf litter in streams in the extent to which consumers can differentiate between undecomposed and decomposing leaves. The detritivores Gammarus pulex and Asellus aquaticus fed preferentially on conditioned rather on unconditioned leaf material. Growth in A. aquaticus was significantly reduced when unconditioned leaves were provided, but in G. pulex no significant effect of conditioning on growth was observed. The capacity of G. pulex to tolerate reductions in food quality seems to be a consequence of a compensatory system in which respiration rates change to compensate for reductions in food quality. In this way a constant growth rate is maintained. Increases in ingestion rates to compensate for low quality food were not observed.  相似文献

Tradescantia albiflora (Kunth) was grown under two different light quality regimes of comparable light quantity: in red + far-red light absorbed mainly by photosystem I (PSI light) and yellow light absorbed mainly by photosystem II (PSII light). The composition, function and ultrastructure of chloroplasts, and photoinhibition of photosynthesis in the two types of leaves were compared. In contrast to regulation by light quantity (Chow et al. 1991. Physiol. Plant. 81: 175–182), light quality exerted an effect on the composition of pigment complexes, function and structure of chloroplasts in Tradescantia: PSII light-grown leaves had higher Chl a/b ratios, higher PSI concentrations, lower PSII/PSI reaction centre ratios and less extensive thylakoid stacking than PSI light-grown leaves. Light quality triggered modulations of chloroplast components, leading to a variation of photosynthetic characteristics. A larger proportion of primary quinone acceptor (QA) in PSI light-grown leaves was chemically reduced at any given irradiance. It was also observed that the quantum yield of PSII photochemistry was lower in PSI light-grown leaves. PSI light-grown leaves were more sensitive to photoinihibition and recovery was slower compared to PSII light-grown leaves, showing that the PSII reaction centre in PSI light-grown leaves was more easily impaired by photoinhibition. The increase in susceptibility of leaves to photoinhibition following blockage of chloroplast-encoded protein synthesis was greater in PSII light-grown leaves, showing that these leaves normally have a greater capacity for PSII repair. Inhibition of zeaxanthin formation by dithiothreitol slightly increased sensitivity to photoinhibition in both PSI and PSII light-grown leaves.  相似文献

The effects of the maize genes, o 2 and Mal, on the concentrations of mineral nutrient cations and amino acid levels in mature maize (Zea mays L) kernels of various inbred lines were studied. Previously, the o 2 gene has been used to improve the protein quality and increase the mineral nutrient content of kernels from some inbred lines. Genotypes possessing the Mal (multiple aleurone layer) gene, contain more than one row of aleurone cells in their kernels and this gene enhances the effect of the o 2gene on improving kernel protein quality. Incorporating these genes into the maize genome increased accumulation of several mineral nutrients (including Ca, Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu) in some of the experimental lines studied. The physiological basis for this increase of mineral nutrients in the kernels is discussed. The effect of the Mal gene on the kernel amino acid composition and protein quality was also examined. Possibly, these genes could be used in combination in breeding programs to improve kernel quality and nutritional value of maize.  相似文献

Combinations of different light quality and fluence exposure times were investigated for their effects on in vitro growth of the woody plant Spiraea nipponica. An interaction was demonstrated between different levels of benzyladenine (BA) used for in vitro propagation and the specific light regimes investigated. This relationship was affected by the length of exposure to either white or red/FR light and the time of transfer from one fluence rate to another. In all instances exposure to red/FR light resulted in more extensive growth than under white light. Thus explants cultured under 0.25 and 0.4 mg l-1 of BA exhibited high shoot proliferation rates when transferred, after 4 weeks of low photon fluence red/FR light, to higher fluence white light for a further week. The proliferation rates obtained were higher than any white light treatment including that with the highest BA level of 0.5 mg l-1. In addition, the combination of red/FR light exposure with a white light stage of higher fluence improved proliferation at lower exogenous BA levels.  相似文献

The morphogenic effect of different light wavelengths on in vitro rooting of Prunus insititia GF655-2 in relation to the presence of napthaleneacetic acid (NAA) in the culture medium was investigated. Results of experiments in which plantlets were rooted in NAA enriched medium showed that the presence of auxin induced rooting even in the dark after an initial lag period. Illumination of the cultures with Red light was as effective in promoting rooting as treatment with 0.5 M NAA; Red was more active in stimulating rooting in the short term than was NAA. The pattern of root formation resulting from the addition of NAA appeared to dominate development under White, Blue and Far Red treatments. Plans are being formulated for in situ bioremediation of a subsurface plume of diesel fuel No. 2 that resulted from an accidental fuel release. Raoult's law and the aqueous solubilities of the toxic components were used to estimate organic contaminant concentrations in leachate from the untreated fuel mass. Carcinogenic risks and noncarcinogenic hazard indices were calculated for undiluted leachate. An 80% decrease in hydrocarbon mass and increases in the average molecular weights of the component fractions were assumed to result from the treatment. Sample calculations are provided to show how to evaluate results of analyses for petroleum hydrocarbons after bioremediation.  相似文献

为在PrinceRupert林区的“亚北方”部分建立生态立地质量与森林生产力的联系,对从93个小杆松林分和77个白云杉林分获得的数据进行了分析.所研究的林分处于两个气候状况、8个土壤水分状况以及5个土壤养分状况.这些气候、土壤水分和养分状况被视为等级变量用于林地分类和回归分析.小杆松和白云杉的立地指数随土壤水分和养分状况变化而变化,但不依赖于气候变化.与土壤水分相关的变化格局对两个种来说很相似,但与土壤养分相关的变化格局则全然不同.在所建立的5类回归模型中,土壤小区模型对于两个种都显示出立地指数与土壤水分和养分状况具有很强的相互关系(R2>0.80,SEE≤1.6m).可以认为土壤水分和养分的等级度量在大范围内可作为小杆松和白云杉立地指数的预测预报因子.  相似文献

侵染新疆甜菜的两种病毒分离物的研究   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
在新疆甜菜的根部和叶片分离到两个球状病毒分离物。从病毒形态、生物学及物化性质等研究结果证明这两个分离物实是一种病毒。病毒粒体力20面体,直径约28nm,回接到甜菜上产生环斑和沿脉线纹最后形成坏死斑。此外还侵染苋色藜,昆诺阿黎,番杏,菠菜等,引起局部坏死斑。在普通烟,心叶烟,菜豆,黄瓜,蕃茄上无症状侵染,病毒致死温度为70℃,10分钟。体外存括期13天以上,冻干病叶7年后仍有侵染力。通过PEG沉淀、差速离心、琼脂糖柱层析及蔗糖梯度离心,可得到较高浓度的纯化病毒,病毒的紫外吸收最低值在245nm,最高值在260nm。经SDS-PAGE测定,病毒外壳蛋白的分子量为2.7×10 ̄4道尔顿,病毒基因组核酸为三个组份,分子量分别为3.08kb,1.28kb和0.85kb。在琼脂双扩散实验中,能与番茄黑环病毒(TBRV)抗血清产生较弱的沉淀线,与黄瓜花叶病毒(CWV)、烟草环斑病毒(TRSV)、烟草坏死病毒(TNV)、香石竹环斑病毒(CaRSV)的抗血清不发生反应。  相似文献
