Allele frequency differences of functional CYP2C9 polymorphisms are responsible for some of the variation in drug response observed in human populations. The most relevant CYP2C9 functional variants are CYP2C9*2 (rs1799853) and CYP2C9*3 (rs1057910). These polymorphisms show variation in allele frequencies among different population groups. The present study aimed to analyze these polymorphisms in 947 Mexican-Mestizo from Mexico City and 483 individuals from five indigenous Mexican populations: Nahua, Teenek, Tarahumara, Purepecha and Huichol. The CYP2C9*2 allele frequencies in the Mestizo, Nahua and Teenek populations were 0.051, 0.007 and 0.005, respectively. As for CYP2C9*3, the allelic frequencies in the Mestizo, Nahua and Teenek populations were 0.04, 0.005 and 0.005, respectively. The CYP2C9*2 and CYP2C9*3 alleles were not observed in the Tarahumara, Purepecha and Huichol populations. These findings are in agreement with previous studies reporting very low allele frequencies for these polymorphisms in American Indigenous populations. 相似文献

Leucaena leucocephala is a Mimosoid legume tree indigenous to America that has spread to other continents, although it is not still present in some European countries such as Portugal. Nevertheless, we found that this legume can be nodulated in this country by slow-growing rhizobial strains which were identified as Bradyrhizobium canariense trough the analysis of the core genes recA and glnII. The analysis of the symbiotic gene nodC showed that these strains belong to the symbiovar genistearum, which commonly nodulates Genistoid legumes. Although two strains nodulating L. leucocephala in China and Brazil were classified within the genus Bradyrhizobium, they belong to undescribed species and to the symbiovars glycinearum and tropici, respectively. Therefore, we report here for the first time the ability of L. leucocephala to establish symbiosis with strains of B. canariense sv genistearum confirming the high promiscuity of L. leucocephala, that allows it to establish symbiosis with rhizobia native to different continents increasing its invasiveness potential. 相似文献

The metabolome, which represents the complete set of molecules (metabolites) of a biological sample (cell, tissue, organ, organism), is the final downstream product of the metabolic cell process that involves the genome and exogenous sources. The metabolome is characterized by a large number of small molecules with a huge diversity of chemical structures and abundances. Exploring the metabolome requires complementary analytical platforms to reach its extensive coverage. The metabolome is continually evolving, reflecting the continuous flux of metabolic and signaling pathways. Metabolomic research aims to study the biochemical processes by detecting and quantifying metabolites to obtain a metabolic picture able to give a functional readout of the physiological state. Recent advances in mass spectrometry (one of the mostly used technologies for metabolomics studies) have given the opportunity to determine the spatial distribution of metabolites in tissues. In a two-part article, we describe the usual metabolomics technologies, workflows and strategies leading to the implementation of new clinical biomarkers. In this second part, we first develop the steps of a metabolomic analysis from sample collection to biomarker validation. Then with two examples, autism spectrum disorders and Alzheimer's disease, we illustrate the contributions of metabolomics to clinical practice. Finally, we discuss the complementarity of in vivo (positron emission tomography) and in vitro (metabolomics) molecular explorations for biomarker research. 相似文献

Aim Recent colonization of northern Portuguese shores by Patella rustica Linnaeus, 1758, led to the bridging of a historical gap in the distribution known since the 1900s. Long‐term oceanographic data collected over the last half‐century were examined in order to detect possible mechanisms for the observed change in its distribution. Location This study was carried out along the entire Portuguese coastline, from 41°50′ to 37°06′ N. Time‐series of hydrographical variables (sea surface temperature and salinity) were derived for the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Methods Abundance and size‐frequency distributions of the newly observed limpet populations were compared with those from well‐established populations in southern Portugal. Anomalies were computed for sea surface temperature (1950–2000) and sea surface salinity (1958–2001) data, covering the whole Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula. An upwelling index (1967–2005) was derived for a single location within the distributional gap of P. rustica. Split moving window analysis was performed to detect significant discontinuities in hydrographical data sets. Results Patella rustica has gradually been expanding in northern Iberia, and in the late 1990s the historical gap in distribution in northern Portugal was bridged. Size‐frequency distribution differed between historical and recent populations, the latter lacking small‐sized individuals. At the same time, several anomalous oceanographic events occurred off the Portuguese coast and were probably related to this expansion. Main conclusions Although sea surface temperature might be a major determinant of the reproductive success of P. rustica and hence its dispersal potential, it is more likely that a coincidence of several factors occurring in the late 1990s provided exceptional conditions that allowed the geographical expansion of this species. 相似文献

The new goniopholidid crocodile Goniopholis baryglyphaeus sp. nov. from the Kimmeridgian of Guimarota/Leiria, Portugal is based on the oldest known relatively complete skeleton of Goniopholis from Europe and consists of a nearly complete skull together with a mandible and various postcranial remains. G. baryglyphaeus shows characters that hitherto have only been described for Goniopholis simus : a caudal expansion of the prefrontal that excludes the frontal from the medial margin of the orbit; and the loss of contact between the paroccipital process and the lateral surface of the squamosal and the quadrate, which exposes the cranioquadrate canal laterally. This new species can be distinguished from other European Goniopholis species by an articular facet placed ventral to the retroarticular process, and directed slightly medioventrally; a caudal margin of the mandible forming almost a right angle at its caudoventral corner; an almost square rostrolateral corner of the cranial table; a straight transverse suture between the parietal and the frontal with a median rostral process; a rostrally tapering wedge-like lacrimal, and a regular heavy skull-sculpturing. The new find of Goniopholis in Portugal shows that this genus was distributed in a larger area, and was present much earlier, than hitherto reported in south-western Europe. 相似文献

This study was carried out on the “Faro/Ancão” artificial reef (AR), located off Faro, deployed in May 2003. We aimed to characterise early macrobenthic community colonisation of two concrete AR groups located at different depths (16 m and 20 m depth) and to test the effect of reef structure on these communities. The non-colonial organisms were counted; barnacles and colonial species were quantified using biomass. Multivariate analyses indicated that early macrobenthic communities (6 months of immersion) were affected by depth, and that barnacles and colonial species were also affected by reef structure. Univariate analyses showed that the biomass of barnacles and colonial species was significantly different among reefs and layers of modules. Both AR groups were characterised by the species Balanus amphitrite, Gregariella subclavata, Musculus cf. subpictus, Paleanotus cf. bellis and Syllidia armata. Jassa marmorata and Bugula neritina were characteristic species at 16 m depth, particularly on the AR Upper layer of modules, whereas Anomia ephippium was particularly common at 20 m, especially on the Lower layer of modules. 相似文献
