Different vegetative parts of Fagraea fragrans Roxb., a valuable timber tree of South East Asia, were used as explants in in vitro studies.Nodal segments showed the best growth response as numerous adventitious shoots were regenerated in MS medium supplemented with Benzyl adenine (BA, 8.8 um) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D, 0.5 um). Shoot buds also developed from the leaf and root segments that were subcultured. The detailed process of callus growth and differentiation leading to the formation of whole plantlets is described. The frequencies of chromosome aberrations in 135 workers from nuclear-power plants were compared with those in 135 age-matched controls. A total of 135,000 cells was scored. The frequencies of dicentric chromosome were 1.67 × 10−3 in the exposed group and 0.49 × 10−3 in the control group and those of chromosome-type deletion were 3.33 × 10−3 and 1.10 × 10−3, respectively. The frequencies of all types of chromosome aberrations in the exposed subjects were higher than those in the control group, but no significant trend of dose-dependent increase was observed when only the exposed group were considered. Poisson regression analysis, with both exposed and control included, showed that there was a significant association of chromosome aberration with radiation dose and the duration of work, but not with age, smoking habit and alcohol intake. It was also found that recent exposure to radiation, within the last 5 years, had contributed more to the observed chromosome aberration than earlier exposure. 相似文献

The size relationship between the crown area of the lower canines (Cs), third (P3s) and fourth premolars (P4s), and first
molars (M1s) in hominids is examined by means of the regression analysis. The lower P3 seem to be under the influence of those
factors that control both the size of the anterior and posterior teeth, and the P4:P3 size ratio is related to the relative
size of the anterior and posterior dentitions. So, the P4>P3 sequence is associated with the megadontia and hipermegadontia
of the posterior teeth, whereas the expansion of the anterior teeth produces the P3>P4 sequence. We consider the P4:P3 size

Multiple shoots were produced from nodal explants of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) by a two-step procedure: a 6- to 8-day exposure to 0.11–0.22 µM thidiazuron (TDZ) in liquid Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium followed by culture on agar-solidified MS medium supplemented with 2.2 µM 6-benzyladenine (BA) and 1.6 M gibberellic acid (GA3). TDZ caused the nodal explants to expand and this expansion (growth) continued during culture with BA and GA3. From this expanded explant, clusters of buds and fasciated stems developed continuously and these gave rise to shoots. The shoot proliferation process was open-ended, yielding an average of 31.5 shoots per nodal explant after 10 weeks of culture with genotype CG 1–56. Organogenic callus cultures of Solanum paludosum were obtained from root, hypocotyle and cotyledon explants of plantlets cultured in sterile conditions. These callus cultures developed multiple shoots which proliferated in Murashige and Skoog basal liquid medium. These multiple shoots produced solamargine, the main steroidal glycoalkaloid present in the unripe fruits.The optimization of the macronutrient composition of the liquid medium was performed by a method derived from the plant composition. This approach results in the establishment of an appropriate medium (SPOM medium) suitable for the improvement of both growth and solamargine production by multiple shoot cultures of S. paludosum. 相似文献

Abstract. One way in which a species' numbers may be estimated without direct counting is to predict their dispersion and density from more readily available habitat measures, such as landscape variables measured from maps or vegetation variables measured in the field. We compare the power of ordination and regression techniques for predicting badger ( Meles meles L.) numbers at a local scale, using a land class system, map-read landscape variables and field-derived vegetation variables. Sett density was used as a surrogate of badger density. Multiple linear regression using vegetation and landscape variables together gave the most accurate prediction of sett density, while ordination techniques were of lesser value. The addition of vegetation variables to landscape variables did not substantially improve the power of ordination. Outlier Sett Density was predicted more accurately, and by different variables, to Main Sett Density. The relationship between badger ecology and habitat variables that were useful in predicting sett density is discussed. 相似文献
