Diadromus collaris (Gravenhorst)(Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) has been recordedin many parts of the world as a major pupalendoparasitoid of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus) (Lepidoptera:Plutellidae). Experiments were conducted tocompare reproductive compatibility andperformance as affected by temperature betweentwo geographic populations of D.collaris, one from Hangzhou, Zhejiang and theother from Lishan, Taiwan, China. The numbersand sex ratio of progeny in all possiblecrosses and backcrosses were similar to thoseobtained within each of the populations,demonstrating complete reproductivecompatibility between the two populations. Thetwo populations showed similar responses totemperature with respect to development time,adult longevity and number of host pupaeparasitized per female. However, the populationfrom Hangzhou achieved higher rates of survivalfrom larva to adult emergence at hightemperatures and had higher proportions offemale progeny at some temperatures, than thepopulation from Lishan. The Hangzhou populationachieved higher intrinsic rates of increase atall temperatures tested from 15 to33.5 °C, and the differences weresignificant at 30 and 32 °C. Thedifferences between the two populations inability to survive high temperatures mayreflect their adaptation to local climates. Thesignificance of the intraspecific variationsrevealed is discussed with regard to the use ofgeographic populations of the parasitoid in thebiological control of P. xylostella.  相似文献

Analytical methods based on light microscopy, 90° light-scattering and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) allowed the characterization of aggregation that can occur when antibodies are mixed with human plasma. Light microscopy showed that aggregates formed when human plasma was mixed with 5% dextrose solutions of Herceptin® (trastuzumab) or Avastin® (bevacizumab) but not Remicade® (infliximab). The aggregates in the plasma-Herceptin®-5% dextrose solution were globular, size range 0.5–9 μm, with a mean diameter of 4 μm. The aggregates in the plasma-Avastin®-5% dextrose samples had a mean size of 2 μm. No aggregation was observed when 0.9% NaCl solutions of Herceptin®, Avastin® and Remicade® were mixed with human plasma. 90° light-scattering measurements showed that aggregates were still present 2.5 h after mixing Herceptin® or Avastin® with 5% dextrose-plasma solution. A SPR method was utilized to qualitatively describe the extent of interactions of surface-bound antibodies with undiluted human serum. Increased binding was observed in the case of Erbitux® (cetuximab), whereas no binding was measured for Humira® (adalimumab). The binding of sera components to 13 monoclonal antibodies was measured and correlated with known serum binding properties of the antibodies. The data presented in this paper provide analytical methods to study the intrinsic and buffer-dependent aggregation tendencies of therapeutic proteins when mixed with human plasma and serum.  相似文献

IntroductionSteady-state visually evoked potentials (SSVEPs) have become popular in brain-computer interface (BCI) applications in addition to many other applications on clinical neuroscience (neurodegenerative disorders, schizophrenia, epilepsy, etc.), cognitive (visual attention, working memory, brain rhythms, etc.), and use of engineering researches. Among available methods to measure brain activities, SSVEPs have advantages like higher information transfer rate, simplicity in structure, and short training time. SSVEP-based BCIs use flickering stimuli at different frequencies to discriminate distinct commands in real life. Some features are extracted from the SSVEP signals before these commands are classified. The wavelet transform (WT) has attracted researchers among feature extraction methods since it utilizes the non-stationary signals well. In the WT, a sample function (named mother wavelet) represents the SSVEP signal in both time and frequency domains. Unfortunately, there is no universal mother wavelet function that fits all the signals. Therefore, choosing an appropriate mother wavelet function may be a challenge in WT-related studies. Although there are such studies in three- and seven-command SSVEP-based studies, there is no study for two-command systems in our knowledge.Materials and MethodsIn this study, two user commands flickered at the combinations of seven different frequencies were tested to determine which frequency pairs give the highest performance. For this purpose, three well-known wavelet features (energy, entropy, and variance) were calculated for each of derived EEG frequency bands from the discrete WT coefficients of SSVEP signals. The WT was repeated for six different mother wavelet functions (Haar, Db4, Sym4, Coif1, Bior3.5, and Rbior2.8). Then, four feature sets (every three features, and all together) were applied to seven commonly-used machine learning algorithms (Decision Tree, Discriminant Analysis, Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machines, Nearest Neighbors, and Ensemble Classifiers).Results and DiscussionWe achieved 100% accuracies among these 3,528 runs (7 classifiers x 4 feature sets x 6 mother wavelets x 21 flickering frequency pairs) using the mother wavelet function of Haar and the Ensemble Learner classifier. The highest classifier performances are 100% when two commands have the flickering frequency pairs of (6.0 and 10 Hz), (6.5 and 8.2 Hz), or (6.5 and 10.0 Hz).ConclusionWe obtained three main outcomes from this study. First, the most representative mother wavelet function was Haar, while the worst one was Symlet 4. Second, the Ensemble Learner classifier gave the maximum classifier performance in a two-command SSVEP-based BCI system. Besides, two user commands from SSVEP should be one of the frequency pairs of (6.0 and 10.0 Hz), (6.5 and 8.2 Hz), and (6.5 and 10.0 Hz) to achieve the maximum accuracy.  相似文献

Intraspecific competition is the basis for biological control of aflatoxins, but there is little understanding of the mechanism(s) by which competing strains inhibit toxin production. Evidence is presented that demonstrates a relationship between strength of the vegetative compatibility reaction and aflatoxin production in Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus using the suspended disk culture method. Combining wild-type aflatoxin-producing isolates belonging to different vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs) resulted in a substantial reduction in aflatoxin yield. Pairs of aflatoxin-producing isolates within the same VCG, but showing weak compatibility reactions using complementary nitrate-nonutilizing mutants, also were associated with reduced levels of aflatoxin B1. In contrast, pairings of isolates displaying a strong compatibility reaction typically produced high levels of aflatoxins. These results suggest that interactions between vegetatively compatible wild-type isolates of A. flavus and A. parasiticus are cooperative and result in more aflatoxin B1 than pairings between isolates that are incompatible. Successful hyphal fusions among spore germlings produce a common mycelial network with a larger resource base to support aflatoxin biosynthesis. By comparison, vegetative incompatibility reactions might result in the death of those heterokaryotic cells composed of incompatible nuclei and thereby disrupt the formation of mycelial networks at the expense of aflatoxin biosynthesis. 本文以高原鼠兔(Ochotona curzoniae)自然种群生命表的统计参数为基础,根据非密度制约Leslie模型及具有密度制约反馈的标准Leslie修正模型,分别预测了该种群在1982-2001年间的发展趋势。在菲密度制约条件下,该种群呈指数增长。在密度制约存在肘,种群增长趋于平衡状态,且存滔率密度制约较繁殖率密度制约对种群的作用更大。存活率密度制约与非密度制约的年龄结构均为Leslie分布,繁殖率密度制约作用的种群稳定年龄分布更平均,其平衡状态的种群大小则由模型的参数决定。  相似文献

Ocotea porosa has been extensively exploited over the past few decades because of the quality of its wood. Today, populations are reduced and the species is now included in the Red List of threatened species by the International Union for Nature Conservation. For conservation and management purposes, it is extremely important that we understand its reproductive ecology. Floral morphology was described based on field and scanning electron microscopic examination. The reproductive system was determined through experimentally controlled pollination along with observations of pollen tube growth. Pollinators were identified through field observations. Flowers of O. porosa are small, shallow, inconspicuous, asynchronous and grouped in inflorescences. This species presented self‐compatibility, but did not reproduce through apomixy and spontaneous self‐pollination was very rare (5%). Despite being monoclinal, flowers were protogynic, and the gynoecium was receptive after the first day of anthesis when the anthers were closed. Spontaneous self‐pollination was avoided by the extrorse position of the anthers of the internal stamens. Frankliniella gardeniae (Thysanoptera) was the only pollinating species observed and, after visiting several asynchronous flowers in the same inflorescence, favors geitonogamy. Together the small distance supposedly achieved by thrips in flight and the small population density of O. porosa can reduce the chances of cross‐pollination in this species. If so, conservation measures must include preservation of the current population and possibly planting to increase population density. This would reduce the distance between individuals and increase genetic variability. Thrips as pollinators must be included in conservation planning for O. porosa.  相似文献

Why do some animals mate with one partner rather than many? Here, I investigate factors related to (i) spatial constraints (habitat limitation, mate availability), (ii) time constraints (breeding synchrony, length of breeding season), (iii) need for parental care, and (iv) genetic compatibility, to see what support can be found in different taxa regarding the importance of these factors in explaining the occurrence of monogamy, whether shown by one sex (monogyny or monandry) or by both sexes (mutual monogamy). Focusing on reproductive rather than social monogamy whenever possible, I review the empirical literature for birds, mammals and fishes, with occasional examples from other taxa. Each of these factors can explain mating patterns in some taxa, but not in all. In general, there is mixed support for how well the factors listed above predict monogamy. The factor that shows greatest support across taxa is habitat limitation. By contrast, while a need for parental care might explain monogamy in freshwater fishes and birds, there is clear evidence that this is not the case in marine fishes and mammals. Hence, reproductive monogamy does not appear to have a single overriding explanation, but is more taxon specific. Genetic compatibility is a promising avenue for future work likely to improve our understanding of monogamy and other mating patterns. I also discuss eight important consequences of reproductive monogamy: (i) parentage, (ii) parental care, (iii) eusociality and altruism, (iv) infanticide, (v) effective population size, (vi) mate choice before mating, (vii) sexual selection, and (viii) sexual conflict. Of these, eusociality and infanticide have been subject to debate, briefly summarised herein. A common expectation is that monogamy leads to little sexual conflict and no or little sexual selection. However, as reviewed here, sexual selection can be substantial under mutual monogamy, and both sexes can be subject to such selection. Under long‐term mutual monogamy, mate quality is obviously more important than mate numbers, which in turn affects the need for pre‐mating mate choice. Overall, I conclude that, despite much research on genetic mating patterns, reproductive monogamy is still surprisingly poorly understood and further experimental and comparative work is needed. This review identifies several areas in need of more data and also proposes new hypotheses to test.  相似文献
