Abstract

The distribution and relative importance of lepidopteran stem borers attacking maize and sorghum were investigated in farmers’ fields during the main cropping seasons of 2015 and 2016 across three main agro-climatic zones (ACZs) of eastern Ethiopia. Three stem borer species, namely Busseola fusca Fuller, Chilo partellus Swinhoe and Sesamia calamistis Hampson were found attacking these crops with different levels of distribution and abundance among ACZs. Busseola fusca was the only borer species in the highlands and dominant (67%) in the midhighland zones, while C. partellus was predominant (75%) in the lowlands. The abundance of S. calamistis was low across its distribution range. Across both years, mean plant infestation by B. fusca ranged from 20.38 in lowlands to 42.97% in highlands. Chilo partellus resulted in a mean infestation of 27.38% in the midaltitude to 68.24% in lowlands. Mean density of larvae per plant was higher for C. partellus (2.85), followed by B. fusca (1.41) and S. calamistis (0.46). Moreover, within each ACZs, variation in plant damage variables was observed between the study periods. These spatio-temporal differences in community structures of stem borers are discussed particularly in relation to agro-climatic requirements.  相似文献

The MYB proteins play central roles in the stress response in plants. Our previous works identified a cold stress-related gene, TaMYB56, which encodes a MYB protein in wheat. In this study, we isolated the sequences of TaMYB56 genes, and mapped them to the wheat chromosomes 3B and 3D. The expression levels of TaMYB56-B and TaMYB56-D were strongly induced by cold stress, but slightly induced by salt stress in wheat. The detailed characterization of the Arabidopsis transgenic plants that overexpress TaMYB56-B revealed that TaMYB56-B is possibly involved in the responses of plant to freezing and salt stresses. The expression of some cold stress-responsive genes, such as DREB1A/CBF3 and COR15a, were found to be elevated in the TaMYB56-B-overexpressing Arabidopsis plants compared to wild-type. These results indicate that TaMYB56-B may act as a regulator in plant stress response.  相似文献

为探明褐斑病空间分布对夏玉米光合酶和保护酶活性的影响,通过2年人工定量接菌田间小区试验,研究了8叶期、10叶期、吐丝期和灌浆期褐斑病在单株夏玉米上的空间分布规律及其对4个生育期植株不同叶位叶片光合酶和保护酶活性的影响。试验结果表明:褐斑病能使夏玉米叶片保护酶、光合酶的活性明显下降,叶片MDA含量显著增高,且空间分布病级越高,影响越大,玉米早衰也越严重。  相似文献

缺铁是世界范围内农业生产面临的严重问题,玉米通过分泌脱氧麦根酸(2’-deoxymugineic acid, DMA)吸收利用土壤中的难溶性铁。为探明玉米DMA分泌通道蛋白基因YS3的表达和调控机制,本文通过克隆获得长为2813 bp的YS3基因启动子,该序列含有大量TATA-box、CAAT-box等启动子基本元件,以及光响应、激素调控等多个顺式调控元件;构建YS3启动子驱动GUS基因的植物表达重组载体pCAMBIA-YS3GUS,利用农杆菌介导转化拟南芥,获得pYS3::GUS转基因植株,对转基因植株进行GUS组织化学染色,并通过石蜡切片技术对转基因植株进行组织观察,分析pYS3::GUS转基因植株中YS3基因启动子的活性。结果表明,YS3启动子主要驱动GUS基因在拟南芥根部表达,且主要集中在根部表皮细胞,机械损伤可激发YS3启动子活性,驱动GUS基因在损伤临近部位表达。本研究对于理解玉米DMA分泌的分子调控机理方法od3 gmaigensuan有重要意义。  相似文献

基于西北夏玉米生产实际和降雨特征,用自制模拟降雨器,于2010年6-9月研究了250、350和450 mm模拟雨量下翻耕、免耕、免耕覆盖对夏玉米农田水分利用效率及产量的影响.结果表明: 在6-9月250 mm雨量下免耕水分利用效率比翻耕高26%,产量比翻耕高16.5%;350 mm雨量下免耕水分利用效率和产量分别比翻耕高17.6%和6.1%;在450 mm雨量下免耕的蓄水效应低于翻耕,水分利用效率比翻耕低1.1%,产量比翻耕低0.6%.免耕覆盖克服了免耕在雨量充沛时水分蓄积量低于翻耕的缺点,在3种雨量下均可有效抑制棵间蒸发,减少翻耕地表裸露造成的无效水分消耗,增加土层贮水量,增大蒸腾量占水分消耗的比例,250 mm雨量下免耕覆盖水分利用效率比翻耕高48.6%,产量比翻耕高32.9%;350 mm雨量下免耕覆盖水分利用效率比翻耕高51.6%,产量比翻耕高27.1%;450 mm雨量下免耕覆盖水分利用效率比翻耕高23.7%,产量比翻耕高13.1%.综上,免耕夏玉米在250和350 mm雨量下相对于翻耕有增产和提高水分利用效率的优势,免耕覆盖夏玉米在250、450 mm雨量下产量和水分利用效率显著高于翻耕.  相似文献

An experimental work was conducted in Lleida (Spain) aiming to characterise the phenology and to quantify the demographic processes regulating the populations of Abutilon theophrasti Medicus in maize fields. Seedling emergence started a few days after crop sowing in early May and continued during two more months. The vegetative phase was very long due to the late seeding emergence; these later emerged plants showed a slower development, and many of them did not reach the fertility stage. A flowering peak was observed 12 weeks after emergence in late July, and fruit dehiscence and seed setting started in mid August, several weeks before crop harvest. Four different cohorts were identified, and two main peaks of emergence were determined 21 and 49 days after crop sowing nearest related with field irrigation. A functional logarithmic relationship between cumulative growing degree-days (GDD) and cumulative emergence was also described. The resulting demographic diagram reflects greater values relating to seedling survival for May cohorts (90.2 vs 7.9%), to fertility (100 vs 75%) and to fecundity (3774 vs 92 seeds pl−1) than those determined for the June cohorts. The late emerged plants are subjected to a high density and are strongly affected by light competition, and their reproductive phase initiation delay is of about 10–20 days. In an assay conducted in Petri dishes, the seeds provided from plants emerged earlier were found more vigorous and germinated more than those from late emerged plants, which seem to be affected by incomplete fruit and seed ripening. Following the crop cycle without any weed control, the population rate increase was about 21.2. These values explain the high invasion capacity of this weed in the local summer irrigated fields, which consists in assuring their presence through a persistent soil seed bank and increasing the probability to spread to other fields. It is known that salt stress and exogenously applied abscisic acid (ABA) can enhance the polyamine content in plants and that salt stress itself can lead to an increase in endogenous ABA production. In the present study, the relationships between salt-induced ABA and polyamine accumulation were inves- tigated using ABA-deficient mutant (vp5/vp5) maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings and ABA and polyamine biosynthesis inhibitors. The results show that reduced endogenous ABA levels, as a result of either the mutation or by using a chemical inhibitor (sodium tungstate), also reduced the accumulation of polyamines in salt-stressed leaves of maize seedlings. The polyamine synthesis inhibitors D-arginine and α- difluoromethylornithine also reduced the polyamine content of the leaves of maize seedling under salt stress. Both ABA and polyamine enhanced the dry weight accumulation of salt-stressed seedlings and also increased the activities of the two dominant tonoplast membrane enzymes, H^+-ATPase and H^+-PPase, when plants were under salt stress. The results suggest that salt stress induces an increase in endogenous ABA levels, which then enhances polyamine synthesis. Such responses may increase a plant's tolerance to salt.  相似文献

Plant and surrogate stems exhibiting specific combinations of physical cues were used to determine which plant‐related stimuli influence the oviposition of Busseola fusca (Fuller) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The number of eggs and egg batches laid per female increased with an increase in diameter of both natural and artificial stems. Direct observations of the oviposition behaviour (walking, antennating, and sweeping with the ovipositor) indicated that the female moths preferred oviposition supports with a large diameter and non‐pubescent or smooth surfaces over pubescent or rough ones. Pubescence and rough surfaces significantly affected the behavioural steps leading to oviposition by interfering with the ovipositor sweep process necessary to find a suitable oviposition site. Furthermore, more eggs and egg batches were laid on soft than rigid supports. The rigidity of the support affected the proper insertion of the ovipositor for egg deposition. Our results underline the importance of physical stimuli in B. fusca's choice of an oviposition site, which may facilitate the identification of potential host plants or preferred oviposition sites on a plant for this species.  相似文献

Phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) plays an important role in a variety of physiological processes in plants, including drought tolerance. It has been reported that the ZmPLC1 gene cloned from maize (Zea mays L.) encoded a PI-PLC and up-regulated the expression in maize roots under dehydration conditions (Zhai SM, Sui ZH, Yang AF, Zhang JR in Biotechnol Lett 27:799–804, 2005). In this paper, transgenic maize expressing ZmPLC1 transgenes in sense or antisense orientation were generated by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and confirmed by Southern blot analysis. High-level expression of the transgene was confirmed by real-time RT-PCR and PI-PLC activity assay. The tolerance to drought stress (DS) of the homogenous transgenic maize plants was investigated at two developmental stages. The results demonstrated that, under DS conditions, the sense transgenic plants had higher relative water content, better osmotic adjustment, increased photosynthesis rates, lower percentage of ion leakage and less lipid membrane peroxidation, higher grain yield than the WT; whereas those expressing the antisense transgene exhibited inferior characters compared with the WT. It was concluded that enhanced expression of sense ZmPLC1 improved the drought tolerance of maize.  相似文献
