ABSTRACTEDTA is useful to assess mobile metal pools in polluted soils and sediments. There is a need to enhance our understanding of the significance of metal fractions released. The impact of single reagent extraction with 0.05 mol L?1 EDTA on the solid phase distribution of trace metals in surface soils sampled from confined dredged sediment disposal sites was investigated. Not extracted and EDTA extracted soils were subjected to sequential extraction to fractionate the total contents into: (1) easily exchangeable and carbonate bound fraction; (2) reducible fraction; (3) oxidisable fraction; and (4) residual fraction. With EDTA, significant portions of metals associated with the acid extractable and reducible fractions were released. The oxidisable and residual fractions remained unaffected for most of the investigated metals except for the organic matter associated metals (Cu and Pb). A decrease in the residual fraction after EDTA-extraction for Cu and Pb was attributed to artifacts of the sequential extraction procedure. 相似文献

We analyzed the spatial distributions of two congeneric tree species, Neolistea aciculata and Neolistea sericea (Lauraceae), in a warm‐temperate forest on Miyajima Island, south‐western Japan. Both species were mainly found in valley sites on the island. Hence, these species shared the same topographic habitat niche. However, we found a clear difference between the spatial distributions of the two species in relation to the light environment. Neolistea aciculata was predominantly found in stands with low light, such as beneath the canopy of dense evergreen broadleaved forest. In contrast, N. sericea was predominantly associated with ample light, such as in secondary Pinus densiflora forest. In stands with moderate light conditions, both species were found. This habitat niche segregation in relation to light conditions presumably allows the coexistence of these two species in the predominantly successional forest on Miyajima Island. 相似文献

Phragmites australis (Poaceae) is a clonal perennial that is an important component of wetland ecosystems worldwide. Using flow cytometry, we examined the cytotype distributions within five populations of P. australis located in the vicinity of Lake Biwa. As in previous reports, two ploidy levels, octoploid (2n = 8x = 96) and decaploid (2n = 10x = 120), were identified, which are assumed to be the main cytotypes around the lake. The coexistence of two cytotypes was detected in four of the five populations, suggesting the relatively common occurrence of mixed ploidy levels in the populations around Lake Biwa. Although intermingled cytotype distributions were observed in some populations, the 9x cytotype, that is, the expected outcome of inter‐cytotype crosses, was not observed, indicating limited gene flow between the two cytotypes. 相似文献

We visualized flavonol distribution in the abaxial epidermis of onion scales without chemical processes via detection of blue-light-induced green autofluorescence. Our visualizing results indicated an unequal intercellular distribution of flavonols among epidermal cells causing a patch distribution in the epidermis, and indicated that flavonol accumulation in ultraviolet irradiated-onion scales was in uniformity with epidermal cells, probably to compensate for their stress-hypersensitiveness. 相似文献

A thin porous silica membrane (average pore size of 3.3 mm) was prepared by the sol–gel method and used to separate the solute from supercritical carbon dioxide. The characteristics of solute permeation were investigated in respect of the adsorption properties of the solute, the desorption rate of the solute from the membrane being measured and the potential energy of solute near the silica surface being calculated by the molecular modeling technique. It was found that caffeine was strongly adsorbed to the surface and then slowly desorbed to form an adsorption layer, making the pores narrower and causing a molecular-sieving effect. Therefore, the rejection value was positive. On the other hand, the rejection value of n-octanoic acid, which was well adsorbed and rapidly desorbed, was negative. It is presumed that the molecules filled the pores due to their potential energy and were then forced to flow through the pores by the transmembrane pressure. 相似文献

Lachrymatory factor synthase (LFS), an enzyme essential for the synthesis of the onion lachrymatory factor (propanethial S-oxide), was identified in 2002. This was the first reported enzyme involved in the production of thioaldehyde S-oxides via an intra-molecular H+ substitution reaction, and we therefore attempted to identify the catalytic amino acid residues of LFS as the first step in elucidating the unique catalytic reaction mechanism of this enzyme. A comparison of the LFS cDNA sequences among lachrymatory Allium plants, a deletion analysis and site-directed mutagenesis enabled us to identify two amino acids (Arg71 and Glu88) that were indispensable to the LFS activity. Homology modeling was performed for LFS/23–169 on the basis of the template structure of a pyrabactin resistance 1-like protein (PYL) which had been selected from a BLASTP search on SWISS-MODEL against LFS/23–169. We identified in the modeled structure of LFS a pocket corresponding to the ligand-binding site in PYL, and Arg71 and Glu88 were located in this pocket. 相似文献

Molecular conformational transition of GDPMan and solution conformation of α-d- mannopyranose moiety in Man-l-P and GDPMan were examined in relation to other sugar nucleotides and phosphates. GDPMan and other sugar nucleotides examined revealed changes in the optical rotation in sigmoidal curve in water by addition of urea. The change was reversible without significant decomposition and is attributable to dissociation of an ordered form into a random form. Optical conformational values in 8m urea solution were+116° for GDPMan, +58°~+79° for UDPGlc, +79° for UDPGal, +135°~+143° for UDPGlcNAc, and +138°~ +155° for UDPGIcA.NMR analysis and periodate oxidation study revealed the 4C1 conformation of α-d-hexopyranose moieties in Man-1-P, Glc-l-P, GDPMan, UDPGlcNAc and UDPGalNAc. 相似文献

以广州地区村边风水林为研究对象,选取了67个风水林斑块,并在每个斑块内建立了一个20m×20m的样方,调查了其胸径大于1cm的植物组成。首先以种面积关系外推法和非参数法估计了风水林群落对区域生物多样性的贡献;然后以加法准则拆分了gamma多样性,以分析风水林群落物种组成的异质性;最后根据每个风水林群落的物种丰富度、稀有种(在所有群落中只出现一次的物种)数目和谱系多样性分析了在保护中需要优先考虑的区域。结果发现:(1)广州地区风水林群落至少保存了32.74%的区域物种多样性;(2)gamma多样性(184)中绝大部分由beta多样性(163.43)构建,只有很小部分来自于alpha多样性(20.57)。这表明风水林群落在物种组成上具有较高的空间异质性,要想尽可能多地保护风水林内物种多样性,就需要尽可能多地保护风水林群落斑块;(3)相对于平原地区,位于山区的风水林群落具有更高的物种丰富度和谱系多样性以及更多的稀有种数目。在保护资金和土地资源有限的情况下,位于山区的风水林群落应该给予优先考虑。 相似文献

For many marine species, locations of key foraging areas are not well defined. We used satellite telemetry and switching state‐space modeling (SSM) to identify distinct foraging areas used by Kemp's ridley turtles (Lepidochelys kempii) tagged after nesting during 1998–2011 at Padre Island National Seashore, Texas, USA (PAIS; N = 22), and Rancho Nuevo, Tamaulipas, Mexico (RN; N = 9). Overall, turtles traveled a mean distance of 793.1 km (±347.8 SD) to foraging sites, where 24 of 31 turtles showed foraging area fidelity (FAF) over time (N = 22 in USA, N = 2 in Mexico). Multiple turtles foraged along their migratory route, prior to arrival at their “final” foraging sites. We identified new foraging “hotspots” where adult female Kemp's ridley turtles spent 44% of their time during tracking (i.e., 2641/6009 tracking days in foraging mode). Nearshore Gulf of Mexico waters served as foraging habitat for all turtles tracked in this study; final foraging sites were located in water <68 m deep and a mean distance of 33.2 km (±25.3 SD) from the nearest mainland coast. Distance to release site, distance to mainland shore, annual mean sea surface temperature, bathymetry, and net primary production were significant predictors of sites where turtles spent large numbers of days in foraging mode. Spatial similarity of particular foraging sites selected by different turtles over the 13‐year tracking period indicates that these areas represent critical foraging habitat, particularly in waters off Louisiana. Furthermore, the wide distribution of foraging sites indicates that a foraging corridor exists for Kemp's ridleys in the Gulf. Our results highlight the need for further study of environmental and bathymetric components of foraging sites and prey resources contained therein, as well as international cooperation to protect essential at‐sea foraging habitats for this imperiled species. 相似文献
