Three new triterpenoid saponins have been isolated from the stem bark of Harpullia austro-caledonica and identified as 24-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-28-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-protoaescigenin, 24-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-28-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-16-desoxyprotoaescigenin, 24-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-28-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-24-oxo-camelliagenin D. The 21,22-di-O-angeloate esters of protoaescigenin and barringtogenol C were isolated in the acid hydrolysate of the saponin extract together with a new prosapogenin identified as 21beta,22alpha-di-O-angeloyl camelliagenin D. With reciprocal rearing experiments, we tested the hypothesis that adaptive differences in host-use traits among soapberry bug populations have a genetic basis. These experiments were conducted with two host races from Florida, an ancestral-type one on a native host plant species and a derived one on a recently introduced plant species (colonized mainly post-1950), on whose seed crops this insect depends for growth and reproduction. Compared to the native host species, the introduced host produces larger seed crops over a much briefer annual period. Its seeds are also significantly higher in lipids and lower in nitrogen. The bug populations exhibit greater juvenile survivorship on their home hosts; that is, the derived population survives better on seeds of the introduced host than does its ancestral-type counterpart, and vice versa. Regardless of the rearing host, populations from the introduced host lay much smaller eggs, and fecundity measures show a more complex pattern than does survivorship: the ancestral-type population produces eggs at the same rate on each host, while the derived population is less fecund on the native host and exhibits enhanced fecundity on the introduced host. These results indicate that the population differences are evolved rather than host-induced. They appear to be adaptive responses to host differences in the spatial and temporal distribution of seed availability and nutritional quality, and show that increased performance on the alien host has evolved with surprising speed and magnitude, with concomitant reductions in performance on the original host. 相似文献

Aim Eurycorymbus cavaleriei (Lévl.) Rehd. et Hand.‐Mazz. (Sapindaceae) is a Tertiary relict tree endemic to subtropical China. This area is a centre for speciation and evolution within the East Asia biome and one of its most important refugial locations. In this study we aim to elucidate the phylogeographical patterning in E. cavaleriei, in order to identify the locations of the species’ main refugia and the predominant patterns of migration that have led to the contemporary spatial genetic structure of chloroplast variation. Location Subtropical China. Methods We sampled 18 populations of E. cavaleriei throughout its geographical range. Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequence data from two non‐coding regions ((trnS/trnG and pl20/5′‐rps12) were obtained from 170 individuals for phylogeographical analyses. Relationships among cpDNA haplotypes were determined using median‐joining networks. Genetic structure was examined by spatial analysis of molecular variance (SAMOVA). Population differentiation was estimated by GST and NST statistics. Results Ten distinct haplotypes were identified. The level of differentiation among populations was relatively high (GST = 0.817), and NST was significantly higher than GST (P < 0.05), indicating that strong phylogeographical structure is exhibited by this species. The SAMOVA revealed five diverging groups of related haplotypes, which coincide with major landscape features in this region. Main conclusions The high differentiation among populations of E. cavaleriei may be a combined effect of historical and contemporary processes, such as the low effective population size for the chloroplast genome of a dioecious species, long‐term range fragmentation and limited seed dispersal for the species. Clear‐cut geographical distributions of ancestral haplotypes of the species suggest multiple potential refugia across subtropical China. The identified refugial regions have long been recognized as centres of plant diversity and endemism for China and have also been suggested as glacial refugia for many other plant species. The combination of these factors means that these locations should be considered as the highest priority for inclusion in conservation policies and sustainable forest management strategies for subtropical China. 相似文献

In this study, we examined the utility of pollen morphology for resolving questions about the evolutionary history of Billia, which is a poorly known genus of Neotropical trees. Billia has been traditionally circumscribed with two species and treated as sister to Aesculus L. However, the number of species in Billia is uncertain, because the genus exhibits abundant morphological diversity but little discontinuous variation. Therefore, Billia may be monotypic and highly polymorphic, or it may have two species with blurred boundaries due to incipient speciation and/or hybridization. Moreover, one recent molecular phylogenetic study shows Billia nested withinAesculus. Our work sought to address the following questions: (i) Are there discontinuities in the pollen of Billia that may suggest species boundaries? (ii) Does the pollen of Billia show evidence for inter-specific hybridization? (iii) Do the exine morphology and size of pollen in Billia differ from those in Aesculus? Our results from scanning electron microscopy showed that pollen exine morphology is not taxonomically informative in Billia but that there are significant differences in pollen size between red- and white-flowered individuals. Thus, our pollen data support the utility of flower color in Billia for species delimitation. Our assessments of pollen viability do not support hybridization in the genus, but cannot be used to rule it out. Finally, pollen exine morphology may lend some support to an evolutionary origin ofBillia within eastern North American Aesculus. In contrast, data on pollen size suggest that Billia may belong in a topological position outside of Aesculus. 相似文献

We isolated and characterized 12 polymorphic microsatellite loci in the Malagasy endemic, Tina striata Radlk. (Sapindaceae). The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 6 (N = 28 individuals). Polymorphic information content ranged from 0.132 to 0.767 and observed heterozygosity from 0.154 to 0.800.
These markers will be valuable in estimating outcrossing rates and genetic variation in populations of T. striata, and aid in the conservation of populations of T. striata and other closely related species in the Malagasy Sapindaceae. 相似文献

对国产狭义无患子科25属27种植物的叶脉形态特征进行了研究报道。结果表明:叶脉均属于羽状脉类型,其中多数为曲行羽状脉,部分为直行羽状脉;叶缘有全缘、具齿和深裂3种类型;二级叶脉具有分支和不分支两种类型;大部分种类具二级间脉,少数不具间脉或间脉不明显;多数种类的三级脉为结网型和贯串型并存;网眼的发育有完善和不完善2种类型;盲脉有简单、具分支和无盲脉3种类型。叶脉形态研究结果支持文冠果亚科以及广义鳞花木属概念,观察发现龙眼属、荔枝属与韶子属从脉序特征方面表现出较近的亲缘关系。编写了国产无患子科叶片脉序特征检索表。 相似文献

Supplementary host specificity tests were conducted with the defoliating sawfly Heteroperreyia hubrichi (Hymenoptera: Pergidae), a candidate for classical biological control of Brazilian peppertree, Schinus terebinthifolius (Sapindales: Anacardiaceae), in the United States. These tests were conducted as part of the environmental assessment required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The suitability of the federally listed endangered native plant Rhus michauxii (Anacardiaceae) and the economically important Litchi chinensis (Sapindaceae) as potential host plants for H. hubrichi was evaluated in a series of no-choice larval development tests conducted in a Florida quarantine laboratory. Neonate larvae transferred to individual test plants failed to develop to the pupal stage on R. michauxii or L. sinensis, whereas Brazilian peppertree supported development of the sawfly to pupation. The results of the additional host specificity tests indicated these critical non-target plants are not at risk from attack by H. hubrichi if it were released in Florida, USA. 相似文献

Two new glucosides, 3-β-d-glucopyranosyloxy-4-methyl-2(5H)-furanone and 4-β-d-glucopyranosyloxy-3-hydroxymethyl-butyronitril-2-en, were isolated from the hemolymph of adult Leptocoris isolata (Heteroptera). Besides these two compounds, the cyanogenic glucoside cardiospermin was found in whole adult bug extracts. The larvae contain the last two named compounds and a mixture of cyanolipids. Only the latter was found in the fruit of Allophylus cobbe, the host-plant of the insect. The possible relationship between the insect glucosides and the host-plant cyanolipids as well as their biological role is discussed. 相似文献
