Reproductive character and genetic diversity were investigated for an autogamous species of Tylophora matsumurae endemic to the Ryukyu Islands and its progenitor species T. tanakae. Approximately one-fourth of bagged flowers set fruits in T. matsumurae, although no fruits were obtained from bagged flowers in T. tanakae. In situ pollen tube germination was observed with high frequency in all five populations examined in T. matsumurae. Furthermore, in T. matsumurae, anther sacs were not dehisced even at anthesis. These results suggest the highly autogamous nature of T. matsumurae. No allozymic variation was detected in all seven populations examined in T. matsumurae. The phenogram constructed using the neighbor-joining method based on Nei's unbiased genetic distance indicated that T. matsumurae clustered with the Okinoerabu Island population of T. tanakae. The estimated outcrossing rate of four populations of T. tanakae varied from 0.18 to 0.59. It is probable that T. matsumurae had been derived from the predominantly self-pollinating population of T. tanakae, and rapidly enlarged its distribution area.  相似文献

2004年7月28日~8月2日,在考察浙江象山韭山列岛省级海洋生态自然保护区时,发现了正处于繁殖中期的黑嘴端凤头燕鸥(Sterna bernsteini)的群体混群于大凤头燕鸥(S.bergii)的繁殖群中。据估测,大凤头燕鸥的种群数量为3500~4500只,黑嘴端凤头燕鸥的种群数量为10~20只。这是目前继2000年马祖群岛发现黑嘴端凤头燕鸥繁殖群之后的第2个繁殖群体。  相似文献

Aim Predator–prey dynamics in fragmented areas may be influenced by spatial features of the landscape. Although little is known about these processes, an increasingly fragmented planet underscores the urgency to predict its consequences. Accordingly, our aim was to examine foraging behaviour of an apex mammalian predator, the wolf (Canis lupus), in an archipelago environment. Location Mainland and adjacent archipelago of British Columbia, Canada; a largely pristine and naturally fragmented landscape with islands of variable size and isolation. Methods We sampled 30 mainland watersheds and 29 islands for wolf faeces in summers 2000 and 2001 and identified prey remains. We examined broad geographical patterns and detailed biogeographical variables (area and isolation metrics) as they relate to prey consumed. For island data, we used Akaike Information Criteria to guide generalized linear regression model selection to predict probability of black‐tailed deer (main prey; Odocoileus hemionus) in faeces. Results Black‐tailed deer was the most common item in occurrence per faeces (63%) and occurrence per item (53%) indices, representing about 63% of mammalian biomass. Wolves consumed more deer on islands near the mainland (65% occurrence per item) than on the mainland (39%) and outer islands (45%), where other ungulates (mainland only) and small mammals replaced deer. On islands, the probability of detecting deer was influenced primarily by island distance to mainland (not by area or inter‐landmass distance), suggesting limited recolonization by deer from source populations as a causal mechanism. Main conclusions Although sampling was limited in time, consistent patterns among islands suggest that population dynamics in isolated fragments are less stable and can result in depletion of prey. This may have important implications in understanding predator–prey communities in isolation, debate regarding wolf–deer systems and logging in temperate rain forests, and reserve design.  相似文献

黄嘴白鹭(Egretta eulophotes)是全球性受威胁鸟类。2005年7月, 我们在浙江五峙山列岛对黄嘴白鹭的巢位选择进行了研究, 共测量了74个巢。研究发现, 在0.99 hm2的馒头山小岛上, 黄嘴白鹭的巢呈聚集性分布, 平均巢间距为119.6 cm, 最小巢间距为15 cm。黄嘴白鹭对巢位具有明显的选择性, 优先选择在灌丛, 尤其是那些相对较高的灌丛(高于50 cm)下营巢, 其次是较低的灌木(低于64 cm)内部和草丛上。多数巢存在遮蔽物。避风和遮荫是黄嘴白鹭巢位选择的主要要求。台风是决定五峙山列岛黄嘴白鹭巢位选择的最主要因素, 而高灌木的数量直接影响五峙山列岛黄嘴白鹭的繁殖成功和今后的资源状况。  相似文献

Differentiation of flower colour is thought to be one of the most important factors promoting plant speciation. We describe the intraspecific variation of flower colour and its distribution in Limonium wrightii. We conducted a survey on 36 islands in the northwestern Pacific and discriminated six morphs of flower colour variation. Two flower colour morphs, pink and yellow, were most frequently observed, and their geographical distributions were basically allopatric. These two morphs were in contact in a narrow zone on Okinoerabu Island, located in the middle region of the Ryukyu Archipelago. In addition, orange, white, and ivory flower morphs were also found in this zone. The geographical distribution of pink and yellow morphs showed a “leapfrog” pattern; the distribution of pink flowers was divided into two areas, intercalated by the distribution of the yellow flower morph. The orange morph may have resulted from hybridization between the pink and yellow flower morphs.  相似文献

To investigate the paternal population history of populations in Northern Island Melanesia, 685 paternally unrelated males from 36 populations in this region and New Guinea were analyzed at 14 regionally informative binary markers and 7 short tandem repeat (STR) loci from the nonrecombining portion of the Y chromosome. Three newly defined binary markers (K6-P79, K7-P117, and M2-P87) aided in identifying considerable heterozygosity that would have otherwise gone undetected. Judging from their geographic distributions and network analyses of their associated STR profiles, 4 lineages appear to have developed in this region and to be of considerable age: K6-P79, K7-P117, M2-P87, and M2a-P22. The origins of K5-M230 and M-M4 are also confirmed as being located further west, probably in New Guinea. In the 25 adequately sampled populations, the number of different haplogroups ranged from 2 in the single most isolated group (the Aita of Bougainville), to 9, and measures of molecular diversity were generally not particularly low. The resulting pattern contradicts earlier findings that suggested far lower male-mediated diversity and gene exchange rates in the region. However, these earlier studies had not included the newly defined haplogroups. We could only identify a very weak signal of recent male Southeast Asian genetic influence (<10%), which was almost entirely restricted to Austronesian (Oceanic)-speaking groups. This contradicts earlier assumptions on the ancestral composition of these groups and requires a revision of hypotheses concerning the settlement of the islands of the central Pacific, which commenced from this region.  相似文献

A new cottid species, Microcottus matuaensis, is described on the basis of 16 specimens (27.9–81.3mm SL) collected from tide pools of Matua Island, central Kuril Archipelago. This species is the second species of the genus Microcottus, and is distinguished from M. sellaris in having three pairs of distinct bony tubercles on the dorsal surface of occiput, a deeply concave interorbital space, and absence of the first pore of the supraorbital sensory canal.  相似文献

The three syntypes of Herops munda De Vis (1884), the holotype of Dules marginatus boninensis Fowler (1907), and several Ryukyu specimens of Kuhlia boninensis were compared morphologically, and it was concluded that K. boninensis is a junior synonym of K. munda. Kuhlia munda is distinguished from congeners by the following combination of characteristics: number of lateral line scales 47–51, preorbital serrae 12–23, caudal fin with base and all margins broadly black, and the chevron-shaped central part pale.  相似文献

Aim To investigate patterns of genetic divergence between populations of the fruit bat genus Melonycteris Dobson 1877 in relation to the possible effects on dispersal of the geological history of water barriers within and between northern Melanesian archipelagos. Location The genus is found only in the Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Islands of northern Melanesia. Methods Up to 935 aligned bases of cytochrome b and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I DNA sequences were determined for specimens of most species and subspecies of Melonycteris. Measures of genetic distance, analysis of molecular variation and phylogenetic investigations (using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches) were conducted to assess the evolutionary relationships amongst populations. Results The deepest divergences within Melonycteris separate the genus into two reciprocally monophyletic clades from first, the Bismarck Archipelago, and secondly, the Solomon Islands. Within the Solomon Islands, five major clades received strong support. Listed in a generally north‐western to south‐eastern direction these were: (1) specimens from Choiseul and Santa Isabel; (2) specimens from New Georgia and Kolombangara; (3) specimens from Malaita; (4) specimens from Guadalcanal; and (5) specimens from Makira. Outgroup rooting suggested that the clade from Makira was the most basal within the Solomon Islands, being shown as the sister group to all other Melonycteris from this archipelago. Main conclusions Patterns of genetic variation within Melonycteris were generally consistent, given current knowledge of northern Melanesian geological history, with the hypothesis that the dispersal of these fruit bats is strongly inhibited by water barriers. Within the Solomon Islands the main genetic clades were each restricted to a single island or to a group of islands that are thought to have belonged to larger landmasses (Greater Gatumbangara and Greater Bukida) formed by land bridges during the Pleistocene. The high genetic distance between specimens from the Bismarck Archipelago and from the Solomon Islands reflects the persistently large geographic distance between these archipelagos. The unexpected phylogenetic position of the Makira specimens suggests either that this island was the first colonized by Melonycteris in the Solomon Islands or that this population is the relict of a clade that was previously more widely distributed.  相似文献

Endozoochorous seed dispersal by kerama deer (Cervus nippon keramae) was investigated at four sites on Aka Island, the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Kerama deer feces contained seeds of 35 plant species. Most of the germinated seeds were small (1.3 ± 0.18 mm) and had a hard coat, comparable to the germinated seeds in several other studies of endozoochorous seed dispersal by herbivores. Both the numbers and species compositions of seeds differed among the four sites, reflecting differences in the food available to kerama deer among habitats. Although many graminoid seeds were found in the two open habitats (Sites A and B) and in the adjoining forest habitat (Site C), woody plant seeds dispersed endozoochorously by birds and mammals were dominant in the forest (Site D), away from the marsh. Although a majority of the graminoid species was growing in open habitats such as the marsh and open fields, few were growing in the forest. Therefore, the kerama deer spread many open‐habitat graminoid seeds to the open and forest habitats. If a high density of kerama deer persists for a long time and gaps in forests are created by browsing kerama deer or by other means, graminoid species may spread substantially on Aka Island. Therefore, it is possible that seed dispersal by forest deer contributes to the expansion of grasslands.  相似文献
