A 105-day experimental trial was conducted to assess different levels of dietary Aleo vera extract supplementation on water quality parameters, proximate composition, growth performance and haematological parameters of fry Oreochromis niloticus. Four different percentages of dietary leaf extract powder of Aleo vera (ALE) with a basal feed, designated as, i.e., T0 (Control group; without ALE), T1 (1% ALE), T2 (2% ALE), and T3 (3% ALE). Fish fry was reared in concrete tanks (7.0 m, 1.6 m, 1.0: L, W, H; water volume 11.2 m3/tank), with an average initial weight 4.04 ± 0.03 g/ fry, and each treatment was triplicated. Fry was randomly distributed at a stocking rate of 450 individuals/ tanks. The water quality parameters revealed that temperature, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO) and nitrates were found in a promising range as given by FAO/WHO limits. However, the record values obtained for Electric Conductivity (EC), Total dissolved solids (TDS), and alkalinities were not found in all tanks' suitable range according to FAO/WHO limits. The results revealed a significant impact of different percentages of dietary ALE supplementation on fry's body composition and haematological parameters. Moreover, the final body weight, final body length, average daily weight gain (g), net weight gain (g) and specific growth rate (%) were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in T1 and T2 compared with T0 and T3 treatments. The poorest feed conversion ratio was recorded in the T2 group compared with other treatments. Thus, the current study provides information about the nutritional quality of Nile tilapia culturing in Pakistan.  相似文献

旨在生命机体与危险因子间建立生命物质信息对话平台,以物质化的信息,或信息化的物质的思维进行理解和推论,建立物质承载信息,信息通过物质的形式传递的思维模式,对生命信息中危险因子的属性、分类以及生命机体对危险因子的识别方式进行分析,从以上两个方面不同角度阐述危险因子与生命机体机制信息的相关互动关系。在分析与解读的过程中,主张建立合乎自然生成逻辑的科学概念,而摒弃一些主观是非逻辑所推导建立起来的概念,还原生命物质和生命过程的本来生物学位置及性质;主张一元化的思考方式和整体性理解生命信息安全控制机制的核心部分。分析结果:就生命信息中危险因子的属性和分类进行了分析,指出危险因子具有生命信息属性和生命安全属性两个属性,依据危险因子物质来源的不同,分外源性和内源性两类,绘出危险因子来源分类汇总图;从机体方面对危险因子识别方式不同,分为PRR识别方式和抗原(样)受体识别方式两类,并绘出危险因子识别方式分类汇总图。综合危险因子的属性、分类和生命机体对危险因子的识别方式,绘制出危险因子与生命机体机制信息的相关互动图,从保守性结构信息、生理产物信息、对机体损伤信息、代谢通路信息、对机体变应信息、精细纯外观构象信息及内在性核心信息7个方面对两者的相互关系进行了引证和分析,进一步阐释了生命信息安全控制机制。  相似文献

Two-level data with hierarchical structure and mixed continuous and polytomous data are very common in biomedical research. In this article, we propose a maximum likelihood approach for analyzing a latent variable model with these data. The maximum likelihood estimates are obtained by a Monte Carlo EM algorithm that involves the Gibbs sampler for approximating the E-step and the M-step and the bridge sampling for monitoring the convergence. The approach is illustrated by a two-level data set concerning the development and preliminary findings from an AIDS preventative intervention for Filipina commercial sex workers where the relationship between some latent quantities is investigated.  相似文献

Standard presentations of epidemiological results focus on incidence-ratio estimates derived from regression models fit to specialized study data. These data are often highly nonrepresentative of populations for which public-health impacts must be evaluated. Basic methods are provided for interval estimation of attributable fractions from model-based incidence-ratio estimates combined with independent survey estimates of the exposure distribution in the target population of interest. These methods are illustrated in estimation of the potential impact of magnetic-field exposures on childhood leukemia in the United States, based on pooled data from 11 case-control studies and a U.S. sample survey of magnetic-field exposures.  相似文献

In Bayesian and empirical Bayes analyses of epidemiologic data, the most easily implemented prior specifications use a multivariate normal distribution for the log relative risks or a conjugate distribution for the discrete response vector. This article describes problems in translating background information about relative risks into conjugate priors and a solution. Traditionally, conjugate priors have been specified through flattening constants, an approach that leads to conflicts with the true prior covariance structure for the log relative risks. One can, however, derive a conjugate prior consistent with that structure by using a data-augmentation approximation to the true log relative-risk prior, although a rescaling step is needed to ensure the accuracy of the approximation. These points are illustrated with a logistic regression analysis of neonatal-death risk.  相似文献

This paper addresses some of the pertinent questions relating to the assessment of radiation risk for humans in space; the paper is not intended as a comprehensive review. The radiation field is briefly summarised and doses to be expected are given based on recent on-board measurements. The problems in adapting terrestrial epidemiological data to the space situation are outlined. Apart from the intrinsic uncertainties in deriving risk factors the specific difficulties are mainly concerned with the effects of energetic charged particles for which no human data exist. The necessity for continuing ground-based research is stressed. Also discussed is whether the principles of radiation protection successfully applied on Earth are really suitable for the space situation or whether they should be replaced by a different approach.  相似文献

Habitat loss and fragmentation are serious threats to biodiversity conservation in the Atlantic Forest. A network of protected reserves is essential to the protection of native fauna and flora. However, internal and external factors may threaten the preservation of biota, thus population viability analyses (PVA) are important tools in reserve design and management planning. A PVA was carried out, using the computer package VORTEX, to assess the effectiveness of the reserve network of Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil in retaining viable populations of the endemic marsupial Micoureus travassosi. The PVA takes into account demographic, genetic and environmental stochastic events and catastrophes (fire). Rio de Janeiro state has 31 reserves, and 20 of those were considered to retain viable populations for 100 years, whereas eight were predicted to suffer from genetic decay, two from both genetic decay and demographic stochasticity, and one of them probably has an extinct population. The minimum area of suitable habitat needed to maintain a minimum viable population of M. travassosi is estimated at 3600ha. Sensitivity analysis was run for mortality, sex ratio, percentage of reproductive females, inbreeding depression and probability of catastrophes, and suggests that inbreeding depression is important in small population sizes, whereas the effects of catastrophes were significant only for large populations. Although the model indicates that some populations will suffer from demographic and/or genetic stochasticity, the reserve network of Rio de Janeiro state will likely keep M. travassosi's populations for the next 100 years.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess the frequency of pollen-mediated gene flow from a transgenic rice line, harbouring the gusA and the bar genes encoding respectively, -glucuronidase and phosphinothricin acetyl transferase as markers, to the red rice weed and conventional rice in the Spanish japonica cultivar Senia. A circular field trial design was set up to investigate the influence of the wind on the frequency of pollination of red rice and conventional rice recipient plants with the transgenic pollen. Frequencies of gene flow based on detection of herbicide resistant, GUS positive seedlings among seed progenies of recipient plants averaged over all wind directions were 0.036 ± 0.006% and 0.086 ± 0.007 for red rice and conventional rice, respectively. However, for both red rice and conventional rice, a clear asymmetric distribution was observed with pollination frequency favoured in plants placed under the local prevailing winds. Southern analyses confirmed the hemizygous status and the origin of the transgenes in progenies of surviving, GUS positive plants. Gene flow detected in conventional rice planted at 1, 2, 5 and 10 m distance revealed a clear decrease with increasing distance which was less dramatic under the prevailing wind direction. Consequences of these findings for containment of gene flow from transgenic rice crops to the red rice weed are discussed. The precise determination of the local wind conditions at flowering time and pollination day time appear to be of primary importance for setting up suitable isolation distances.  相似文献

Leukocyte endothelial cell interaction is a fundamentally important process in many disease states. Current methods to analyze such interactions include the parallel-plate flow chamber and intravital microscopy. Here, we present an improvement of the traditional intravital microscopy that allows leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction to be studied from the time the leukocyte makes its initial contact with the endothelium until it adheres to or detaches from the endothelium. The leukocyte is tracked throughout the venular tree with the aid of a motorized stage and the rolling and adhesive behavior is measured off-line. Because this method can involve human error, methods to automate the tracking procedure have been developed. Complement inhibition is to a large extent achieved by proteolytic degradation of activated complement factors C3b and C4b by factor I (FI). This reaction requires a cofactor protein that binds C3b/C4b. We found that the cofactor activity of C4b-binding protein towards C4b/C3b and factor H towards C3b increase at micromolar concentrations of Zn(2+) and are abolished at 2 mM Zn(2+) and above. 65Zn(2+) bound to C3b and C4b molecules but not the cofactors or FI when they were immobilized in a native form on a nitrocellulose membrane. Zn(2+) binding constants for C3met (0.2 microM) and C4met (0.1 microM) were determined using fluorescent chelator. It appears that higher cofactor activity at low zinc concentrations is due to an increase of affinity between C4b/C3b and cofactor proteins as assessed by surface plasmon resonance. Inhibition of the reaction seen at higher concentrations is due to aggregation of C4b/C3b.  相似文献
