Summary Plant yield of mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizalFestuca rubra L. was linearly decreased with increasing zinc concentrations in nutrient solution. In all cases, non-mycorrhizal plant growth was significantly greater than that of mycorrhizal plants. Zinc and phosphorus concentrations of root and shoot of mycorrhizal plants were greater in all zinc treatments while mycorrhizal plants showed equal or lower tolerance indices to zinc than non-mycorrhizal plants. Yield depressions of mycorrhizal plants may be the result of enhanced zinc and phosphorus concentrations combined with the cost for growth and maintenance of the mycorrhizal fungi. 相似文献

Iron-efficient (WF9 corn and Coker 227 oat) and Fe-inefficient (ys1 corn and TAM 0–312 oat) cultivars were comparatively tested for their response to Fe-deficiency stress induced by the use of either ferrous or ferric chelators. Corn and oats were grown in 20 M Fe with 0, 60, and 120 M BPDS and 40 M Fe with 0, 120, and 240 M BPDS and 20 M Fe with 0 and 40 M EDDHA. All four cultivars tested, both Fe-efficient and Fe-inefficient, continuously reduced Fe3+ to Fe2+ at a low level as evidenced by the production of Fe2+ (BPDS)3 in test nutrient solutions over time. Severity of chlorosis increased as more BPDS was added to the nutrient solutions for both WF9 and ys1 corn, but unlike corn, Coker 227 and TAM 0-312 oats were both able to obtain Fe from the Fe2+ (BPDS)3 complex and were less chlorotic as a result. In short-term (4-hour) in vivo measurements, iron-stressed WF9 (Fe-efficient) corn reduced more Fe3+ to Fe2+ than similarly stressed ys1 corn, Coker 227 oat or TAM 0-312 oat. Thus, at the same time that Fe-efficient WF9 corn reduces more Fe than the other cultivars, it is also unable to compete with BPDS for that Fe in the nutrient solution. These differences coupled with the observation that only Coker 227 oat produced measureable iron solubilizing substances (phytosiderophores) suggest that these two species differ in their mechanisms for obtaining Fe during Fe-deficiency stress. 相似文献

Pinitol (1d -3-O-methyl-chiro-inositol) and 1d -1-O-methyl-muco-inositol, two cyclitols wide-spread in the plant kingdom, were isolated from plant sources in order to test their compatibility with malate dehydrogenase activity. Both compounds had no inhibitory effect on malate dehydrogenase from Rhizophora mangle in a range of 100 to 1000 mol . m?3. Their influence on malate dehydrogenase activity from different plant sources (Rh. mangle L., Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L., Cicer arietinum L. and Spinacia oleracea L.) was also small and similar to that observed for a number of well established compatible solutes (e.g. proline, glycine betaine). A human episomal sequence (HALF1) has been identified by its ability to restore expression of hepatic functions when used to transfect a rat dedifferentiated cell line. The genomic equivalent of this human episome (gHALF1) and its flanking sequences were analyzed. HALF1 itself does not present the characteristics of a transposable element but half of its sequence corresponds to retroposons, including Alu and L1 repeats and a processed pseudogene, known to transposevia RNA intermediates. Programmed death‐ligand 1 (PD‐L1) is involved in immunosuppression in variety of tumours. Regulatory B cells (Bregs) are critical immune regulatory cells, and it has been demonstrated that the number of regulatory B cells in patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is much higher than that in healthy donors (HDs), which is linked to a poor prognosis. This study aimed to determine whether increased expression of PD‐L1, including in Bregs, is associated with a worse prognosis in individuals with AML. The proportion of Bregs, PD‐L1 expression in Bregs and PD‐1 expression in T cells were determined using flow cytometry using patient samples from 21 newly diagnosed AML patients at different stages of treatment and 25 HDs. We confirmed PD‐L1 expression in Bregs, and PD‐1 expression in CD3+CD4+T cells in bone marrow and peripheral blood samples from AML patients was higher than that in samples from HDs. The complete remission (CR) and progression‐free survival (PFS) of Bregs with high PD‐L1 expression were significantly decreased following induction chemotherapy. PD‐L1 expression is indeed increased in Bregs from individuals with AML, and high PD‐L1 expression is related to a poor prognosis. 相似文献

The possibility that changes in the plasticity of expanding cell walls are involved in regulating early leaf growth responses to nutrient deficiencies in monocot plants was investigated. Intact maize seedlings (Zea mays L.) which were hydroponically grown with their roots in low-nutrient solution (1 mol m?3 CaCl2) showed early inhibition of first-leaf growth, as compared with seedlings on complete nutrient solution. This early inhibition of leaf growth was not associated with reduced cell production. However, segmental elongation along the cell expansion zone at the base of the leaf and the lengths of mature epidermal cells were reduced by the low-nutrient treatment. Solute (osmotic) potentials in the expanding leaf tissues were unchanged. In contrast, low-nutrient treatments significantly altered leaf plasticity, i.e. the irreversible extension caused by applying a small force in the direction of leaf growth. For example, in vivo plasticity decreased, along with leaf growth, after transfer of seedlings from complete nutrient solution to low-nutrient solution for 15 h. Conversely, in vivo plasticity increased, along with leaf growth, after transfer of plants previously grown on low-nutrient solution to complete nutrient solution for 15 h. The nutrient treatments also induced similar changes in the in vitro plasticity of the expanding leaf cell walls. There were no consistent changes in elasticity. Thus, reductions in the plasticity of expanding leaf cell walls appear to be involved in controlling the early inhibition of maize leaf growth by root imposition of nutrient stress. 相似文献

Summary Triploids (2n=3X=60) were obtained from genetic male-sterile (ms1 ms1) soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] plants. Meiosis, pollen fertility, and chromosome number of their progeny were studied. Studies of meiosis in fertile and sterile triploids revealed no distinguishable differences in chromosome associations. Male-sterile plants formed coenocytic microspores characteristic of the ms1 mutant. Restitution of some dyad and tetrad nuclei were observed in male-sterile plants. Chromosomes of the triploids tended to occur in trivalents during diakinesis and metaphase I (MI), but multivalents, bivalents, and univalents also were observed. Average types and frequencies of chromosome associations per cell in diakinesis and MI from 542 pollen mother cells were 0.004 IX + 0.06 VI + 0.002 V + 0.005 IV + 16.99 III + 1.79 II + 5.03 I. Some secondary associations, nonhomologous pairing, and aberrant nucleolar distributions occasionally were observed. Such behavior support the hypothesis of duplicated genomes and the polyploid origin of soybean. Pollen fertility in male-fertile triploid plants (Ms1 ms1 ms1) varied from 57% to 82%, with an average of about 71%. Chromosome numbers of progenies obtained from these fertile triploids varied from 2n=40 to 2n=71, and exhibited a near-random distribution, with the majority (about 60%) being between 56 and 65. Following a precultivation with pedospheric nitrogen nutrition, Ricinus plants were supplied with nitrogen solely by spraying nitrate or ammonium solution onto the leaves during the experimental period. The chemical composition of tissues, xylem and phloem exudates was determined and on the basis of the previously determined nitrogen flows (Peuke et al., New Phytologist (1998), 138 , 657–687) the flows of potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, chloride and ABA were modelled. These data, which permit quantification of net-uptake, transport in xylem and phloem, and utilization in shoot and root, were compared with results obtained in plants with pedospherically-supplied nitrate or ammonium and data in the literature. Although the overall effects on the chemical composition of supplying ammonium to the leaves were not as pronounced as in pedospherically supplied plants, there were some typical responses of plants fed with ammonium (ammonium syndrome). In particular, in ammonium-sprayed plants uptake and transport of magnesium decreased and chloride uptake was increased compared with nitrate-sprayed plants. Furthermore, acropetal ABA transport in the xylem in ammonium-sprayed Ricinus was threefold higher than in nitrate-sprayed plants. Additionally, concentrations of anions were more or less increased in tissues, particularly in the roots, and transport fluids.
