The purpose of this study was to compare the muscle response times (MRTs) of select lower extremity muscles following a weight bearing rotary perturbation in single-leg stance with and without shoes. Ten recreationally active females volunteered for this study. Each subject received a rotary perturbation in single-leg stance under two conditions: with shoes and without shoes. The outcomes measured were response times of the medial and lateral quadriceps, hamstrings and gastrocnemius. The results demonstrated that significant differences in MRTs were not apparent for either the medial or lateral perturbation between conditions. While a main effect for muscle was evident for both medial and lateral perturbations, a muscle by shoe interaction was not present for either the medial or lateral perturbation. Our findings suggest that wearing shoes does not alter MRTs during single-limb rotary perturbations. These data indicate that lower extremity perturbation device testing may be done with or without shoes and comparisons between works are permissible as response times are unaffected.  相似文献

Unexpected loading of the spine is a risk factor for low back pain. The trunk neuromuscular and kinematics responses are likely influenced by the perturbation itself as well as initial trunk conditions. The effect of four parameters (preload, sudden load, initial trunk flexed posture, initial abdominal antagonistic activity) on trunk kinematics and back muscles reflex response were evaluated. Twelve asymptomatic subjects participated in sudden forward perturbation tests under six distinct conditions. Preload did not change the reflexive response of back muscles and the trunk displacement; while peak trunk velocity and acceleration as well as the relative load peak decreased. Sudden load increased reflex response of muscles, trunk kinematics and loading variables. When the trunk was initially flexed, back muscles latency was delayed, trunk velocity and acceleration increased; however, reflex amplitude and relative trunk displacement remained unchanged. Abdominal antagonistic preactivation increased reflexive response of muscles but kinematics variables were not affected. Preload, initial flexed posture and abdominal muscles preactivation increased back muscles preactivity. Both velocity and acceleration peaks of the trunk movement decreased with preload despite greater total load. In contrast, they increased in the initial flexed posture and to some extent when abdominal muscles were preactivated demonstrating the distinct effects of pre-perturbation variables on trunk kinematics and risk of injury.  相似文献

Ankle inversion sprains are the most frequent acute musculoskeletal injuries occurring in physical activity. Interventions that retrain muscle coordination have helped rehabilitate injured ankles, but it is unclear which muscle coordination strategies, if any, can prevent ankle sprains. The purpose of this study was to determine whether coordinated activity of the ankle muscles could prevent excessive ankle inversion during a simulated landing on a 30° incline. We used a set of musculoskeletal simulations to evaluate the efficacy of two strategies for coordinating the ankle evertor and invertor muscles during simulated landing scenarios: planned co-activation and stretch reflex activation with physiologic latency (60-ms delay). A full-body musculoskeletal model of landing was used to generate simulations of a subject dropping onto an inclined surface with each coordination condition. Within each condition, the intensity of evertor and invertor co-activity or stretch reflexes were varied systematically. The simulations revealed that strong preparatory co-activation of the ankle evertors and invertors prior to ground contact prevented ankle inversion from exceeding injury thresholds by rapidly generating eversion moments after initial contact. Conversely, stretch reflexes were too slow to generate eversion moments before the simulations reached the threshold for inversion injury. These results suggest that training interventions to protect the ankle should focus on stiffening the ankle with muscle co-activation prior to landing. A crossover study was performed for patients with RSD to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the hydroxyl radical scavenger DMSO. All patients were given DMSO locally 5 times a day during one week, and a placebo during one week. Before and after each treatment, subjective evaluation was performed by both the patient and the examinor as to clinical activity of RSD, and measurement was performed of the range of motion (ROM) of all joints in the affected extremity.

DMSO was the most effective treatment as to improvement of ROM (p = 0.035) and as to overall improvement (p = 0.001). The efficacy of the hydroxyl radical scavenger DMSO indicates that RSD primarily involves an inflammatory process rather than a sympathetic reflex. As during the last 20 years no single report was published studying RSD in terms of inflammation, it is suggested that such studies are urgently needed to elucidate the real nature of RSD.  相似文献

Aspects of the history of behavioural science are reviewed, pointing to its fragmented and faction-ridden nature. The emergence of evolutionary psychology (EP) is viewed in this context. With the help of a dual-layered model of behavioural control, the case is made for a more integrative perspective towards EP. The model's application to both behaviour and complex human information processing is described. Similarities in their control are noted. It is suggested that one layer of control (‘on-line’) corresponds to the encapsulated modules of EP whereas the off-line controls provide the plasticity and flexibility suggested by its critics.  相似文献

The ability to develop the catatonic-like state (reflex immobility reaction - RIR) due to stimulation of the skin at the scruff was investigated in mice of two strains — C57BL/6J and CBA/Lac. The total time of immobility and number of paroxysms during test were measured. It has been shown that the number of paroxysms was significantly fewer and the total time of immobility was significantly longer in CBA/Lac strain than in C57BL/6J. In each strain group housed animals as well as submissive ones with successive experience of defeats demonstrated a more expressed immobility than individually housed or aggressive males with successive experience of victories, respectively. Changing the social status in aggressive animals as a consequence of confrontation with aggressive males resulted in the increased immobility in CBA/Lac but not in C57BL/6J mice. The results suggest that the experience of defeat in submissive males is connected with increased ability to develop RIR.  相似文献

The resistance reflex in the femur-tibia joint of stick insects shows a great variability in its strength which allows the animal to adapt to different environmental requirements. This paper presents the modulations in the neural reflex pathways which occur during an increase of the gain of the resistance reflex after tactile stimulation. The gain increase was associated with a short-term, reversible increase of slow extensor tibiae depolarization. Because membrane properties like resting potential and input resistance of this motoneuron remained unchanged during the gain changes, the increase of depolarization appeared to result from an increase of stimulus-related inputs and thus was due to modulations of the premotor neuronal network containing afferents of the femoral chordotonal organ and interneurons. However, no changes of spike activity of sensory neurons and amount of their presynaptic inhibition was found during gain changes. In contrast, recordings from different types of identified premotor non-spiking interneurons demonstrated a correlation between the amplitude of stimulus-related inputs to particular non-spiking interneurons and gain changes, while other non-spiking interneurons appeared unaffected. Thus, an increase in gain of the resistance reflex must be due to a specific weighting of synapses between sense organ and particular non-spiking interneurons. Accepted: 3 July 1998  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the reflex pattern in patients with prior polio and to relate these findings to the degree of anterior horn cell (AHC) involvement and loss of muscle force.

Twenty-five prior polio subjects were investigated with electromyography (EMG), force testing and reflex studies, which included the patellar and Achilles reflex, H-reflex, T-response and interlimb reflex (ILR).

The clinical reflexes, H/M-ratio and T-response amplitude at rest were positively correlated with force and negatively correlated with the degree of AHC loss. The H/M-ratio was decreased compared with age matched controls.

ILR was present in 68% of the prior polio patients but did not exist in controls. The presence of the ILR was not correlated with the degree of AHC loss or force.

The reflex studies gave two main findings. The first is reduced excitability of monosynaptic connections in the motor neuron pool, which is related to weakness. The other is the presence of ILR as an indicator of interneuronal hyper-excitability, which is not related to weakness.  相似文献
