Colored biofilms cause problems in paper industry. In this work we used real-time PCR to detect and to quantitate members
of the genus Meiothermus from the process samples and end products from 24 machines manufacturing pulp, paper and board in four countries. The results
obtained from 200 samples showed the importance of members of the genus Meiothermus as ubiquitous biofoulers in paper machines. This genus was the dominant biofouler in some mills. From ≤104 to 1011 copies of Meiothermus 16S rRNA genes were found per gram of process deposit (wet weight). Meiothermus spp. were found in paper and board products with colored defects and connection between deposit-forming microbes and end-product
spots was shown. 16S rRNA gene sequences of 29 biofilm producing bacterial isolates from different mills were determined.
Based on sequence data, 25 of the isolates were assigned to the genus Meiothermus, with Meiothermus silvanus and M. ruber as the most frequent species. 相似文献

Many statistics are available to compare distributions. Some are limited to nominal data while others, such as skew, Kullback-Leibler, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and the Gini coefficient, are useful for providing information about ordered distributions. While many of these tests are useful for determining properties of data in histograms, there has not been a test until now that allows for the detection of differences between distributions, describes the difference and is sensitive to the location of the departures. Such a test could be critical for comparing pre-and post-event distributions, such as a change in the distribution of biomass due to fire, for example, or for comparing data from different locations, such as soil size distributions, and even for evaluating economic disparity or examining differences in age demographics. We present a new statistic, a departure index, which allows a test distribution to be compared with any reference distribution. The resulting index contains information about the location, magnitude and direction of departure from the reference distribution to the test distribution. The departure index in turn provides a standardized response range that allows for a comparison of results from different analyses. A case study of actual fire data demonstrates the sensitivity and range of the test. 相似文献

The utility of HPTLC and HILIC/ESI-QTOF-MS for the determination of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) and their N-oxides (PANOs) was compared in the selected plant species: Tussilago farfara L. (TF, flower) and Arnebia euchroma (Royle) I.M. Johnst. (AE, root). HPTLC confirmed the postulated presence of PAs (saturated and unsaturated) or PANOs in the tested extracts. In accordance with previous studies, HILIC/ESI-Q-TOF-MS confirmed the presence of the toxic PA senkirkine and the saturated otonecine-type PAs, tussilagine and isotussilagine in the TF extract and 7-angeloylretronecine and 9-angeloylretronecine in AE extract. Moreover, the following alkaloids were identified in AE root: intermedine, intermedine-N-oxide, leptanthine-N-oxide, echimidine-N-oxide (or their corresponding stereoisomers) and traces of 7-angeloylretronecine and 9-angeloylretronecine-N-oxide. The study demonstrates the HILIC/ESI-Q-TOF-MS method to be a very useful tool for monitoring PAs and PANOs in the test samples, even when not all of the necessary standards are available. Quantitative analysis of senkirkine in TF flower by HILIC/ESI-QTOF-MS featured high resolution, high precision, high mass accuracy, and very high sensitivity with limit-of-detection (LOD) of 27.50 fg/μL and limit-of-quantitation (LOQ) of 91.60 fg/μL. The results from both methods may be used for the development or rejection of European Pharmacopoeia (X) monographs of both investigated species. 相似文献

Genetic diversity in spring bread wheat (T.␣aestivum L.) was studied in a total of 69 accessions. For this purpose, 52 microsatellite (SSR) markers were used and a total of 406
alleles were detected, of which 182 (44.8%) occurred at a frequency of <5% (rare alleles). The number of alleles per locus
ranged from 2 to 14 with an average of 7.81. The largest number of alleles per locus occurred in the B genome (8.65) as␣compared
to the A (8.43) and D (5.93) genomes, respectively. The polymorphism index content (PIC) value varied from 0.24 to 0.89 with
an average of 0.68. The highest PIC for all accessions was found in the B␣genome (0.71) as compared to the A (0.68) and D␣genomes
(0.63). Genetic distance-based method (standard UPGMA clustering) and a model-based method (structure analysis) were used for cluster analysis. The two methods led to analogical results. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA)
showed that 80.6% of the total variation could be explained by the variance within the geographical groups. In comparison
to the diversity detected for all accessions (H

= 0.68), genetic diversity among European spring bread wheats was H

A primary objective in quantitative risk or safety assessment is characterization of the severity and likelihood of an adverse effect caused by a chemical toxin or pharmaceutical agent. In many cases data are not available at low doses or low exposures to the agent, and inferences at those doses must be based on the high-dose data. A modern method for making low-dose inferences is known as benchmark analysis, where attention centers on the dose at which a fixed benchmark level of risk is achieved. Both upper confidence limits on the risk and lower confidence limits on the "benchmark dose" are of interest. In practice, a number of possible benchmark risks may be under study; if so, corrections must be applied to adjust the limits for multiplicity. Winter survival is an important characteristic of oilseedBrassica that is seeded in the fall in northern climates,and it may be affected by genetic variation for other cold-regulated traits,such as freezing tolerance and vernalization responsive flowering time. Weanalyzed immortalized populations of oilseed Brassica rapa(recombinant inbred lines) and B. napus (double haploidlines) derived from crosses of annual and biennial types in order to comparethe map positions and effects of quantitative trait loci controlling wintersurvival, nonacclimated and acclimated freezing tolerances, and flowering time.The B. napus population was evaluated in multiple winters,and six of the 16 total significant QTL for winter survival were detected inmore than one winter. Correspondence in the map positions of QTL controllingdifferent traits within species provided evidence that some alleles causinggreater acclimated freezing tolerance and later flowering time also contributedto increased winter survival. Correspondence in the map positions of QTLbetween species provided evidence for allelic variation at homologous loci inB. rapa and B. napus.
