Partial amino acid sequences of the plastocyanins from 22 members of 8 tribes of the Compositae are separated by ancestral amino acid sequence methods into 3 groups. These groups agree generally with those of previous classifications of the species from which the plastocyanins were obtained, based mainly on morphological characters, although closer relationships between the Cichorieae and Cynareae, between the Heliantheae, Senecioneae and Calenduleae and between the Astereae and Inuleae are suggested by the sequence data.  相似文献

Documentation of amentoflavone O-glucosides as the predominant flavonoid glycosides in both genera of the Psilotaceae clearly distinguishes this family from all other families of vascular plants. Psilotum and Tmesipteris also possess apigenin C- and O-glycosides as common flavonoid types. Apigenin 7-O-rhamnoglucoside occurs in both genera and the previously undocumented apigenin 7-O-rhamnoglucoside-4′-O-glucoside, although identified only in Tmesipteris, may also be present in Psilotum. The existence of flavone C-glycosides in both genera may provide a phytochemical relationship between the Psilotaceae and some ferns. The phylogenetic significance of these results is discussed.  相似文献

Genetic distances (D's) between five species within each of the families Mimidae and Vireonidae were estimated from frequencies of protein electromorphs at 23 loci. For three mimid species in the genus Toxostoma, equals 0.084 (range, 0.069–0.104); and among three mimid genera, equals 0.223 (0.167–0.278). These distances typify values previously reported in other birds at comparable levels of taxonomic recognition. In sharp contrast, the mean genetic distance among five congeneric species of Vireonidae is far higher, =0.360 (0.027–0.578). One possible explanation for these results is that Vireo species are considerably older, on the average, than are species of Toxostoma or than are members of several other avian genera assayed to date. Conventional thought about the origin and relative age of the Vireonidae appears compatible with this explanation. Although genetic distances in the Vireonidae are large by avian standards, they remain modest or even small in comparison with distances between many nonavian vertebrate congeners. Results for the Mimidae and the Vireonidae are directly contrasted with genetic distances in well-known genera of Amphibia and Reptilia.This research was supported by NSF Grant DEB 7814195 and by a grant from the American Philosophical Society.  相似文献

Partial mitochondrial cytochrome b gene sequences of eight salmonid species were used in a PAUP analysis to generate a phylogeny of the group. The four genera represented are Salmo, Salvelinus, Oncorhynchus and Thymallus . The inferred phylogenetic tree coincides well with the classically derived one for these genera. The recent reclassification of the rainbow trout as a member of the genus Oncorhynchus is supported. The assignment of grayling as the outgroup is vindicated. The utility of gene sequence data to infer the phylogenetic relationships of the Salmonidae is discussed.  相似文献

Horizontal starch gel electrophoresis was employed to investigate allozyme variation at 19 isozyme loci, in nine closely-related Atlantic-Mediterranean gobiid fish species, to assess genetic relationships, and to compare this with a phyletic hypothesis based on morphological apo-morphies. The species examined were Gobius niger, G. auratus, G. cruentatus, G. paganellus, Mauligobius maderensis, Zosterisessor ophiocephalus, Thorogobius ephippiatus, Padogobius martensii and P. nigricans . Various phenetic and cladistic analyses were performed on isozyme and morphological data. The phenetic and cladistic results from morphological data, and the cladistic results from isozyme data, were largely comparable, with P. martensü and P. nigricans forming a sister group to all the other taxa, species of Cobius forming a crown group within the latter, and stem lines formed by Mauligobius, Zosterisessor and Thorogobius , respectively. The isozymic estimates of genetic distance differed from these chiefly in the relative positions of Zosterisessor and G. auratus , which appear less similar to other species of Gohius. G. auratus shows many alleles which are unique within the genus Gobius ; possible explanations for this are put forward. The position of nigricans as congeneric with Padogobius martensü is confirmed by both phenetic and cladistic analyses of isozyme data.  相似文献

Allozyme variation encoded for by 22 enzyme loci analyzed with starch-gel electrophoresis from samples of gonochoristic Artemia monica and A. urmiana collected from Lake Urmia, Iran and from Mono Lake, CA, USA, respectively, are compared and contrasted with data from representative gonochoristic populations of A. franciscana, A. persimilis and A. salina, as well as diploid, triploid, tetraploid, and pentaploid parthenogenetic forms. Values for parameters measuring degree of genetic variability (number of alleles per locus, proportion of polymorphic loci, and expected heterozygosity) in A. monica and A. urmiana were among the highest in the genus (1.76, 0.46, 0.19, and 2.19, 0.55, and 0.14, respectively). For A. monica, possible factors promoting its high genetic variability are discussed. Mean values for Nei's D between A. monica and A. franciscana were very low (0.09) and consistent with reported cytological and morphological similarities, thus the physiological differentiation which distinguishes the former must involve differences at very few loci. D values from A. urmiana to rest of the gonochoristic species (0.95) are consistent with its taxonomic status and distinctive morphology, while its low genetic distance to the monophyletic Artemia parthenogenetic lineage (mean D = 0.48) suggests a recent common ancestry.  相似文献

Viewed by SEM and TEM, sagittocysts of Convoluta bifoveolata Mamkaev, 1971, and needles of C. sagittifera Ivanov, 1952, have the same structure. Both are capsule-form extrusomes containing a protrusible needle. Only seven similar species of convolutimorph acoels symbiotic with green algae and C. sagittifera, without algae, possess extrusomes of this peculiar and complicated type. The sagittocyst is a clear synapomorphy of all these species. A sacciform ciliated antrum lacking a seminal vesicle is also characteristic of these species and also of three Japanese species of green (algae-symbiotic) convolutimorph acoels lacking sagittocysts. We suggest schemes of the possible evolution of male and female copulatory organs to provide a basis for better using such organs as phylogenetic characters. We regard the formation of a ciliated sacciform antrum as an independent evolutionary trend. This conclusion forms the basis for establishing the separate family Sagittiferidae. Species of this family seem to have originated in the West Pacific.  相似文献

Summary Since the discovery of the coelacanth, Latimeria chalumnae, more than 50 years ago, paleontologists and comparative morphologists have debated whether coelacanths or lungfishes, two groups of lobe-finned fishes, are the closest living relatives of land vertebrates (Tetrapoda). Previously, Meyer and Wilson (1990) determined partial DNA sequences from two conservative mitochondrial genes and found support for a close relationship of lungfishes to tetrapods. We present additional DNA sequences from the 12S rRNA mitochondria gene for three species of the two lineages of lungfishes that were not represented in the first study: Protopterus annectens and Protopterus aethiopicus from Africa and Neoceratodus forsteri (kindly provided by B. Hedges and L. Maxson) from Australia. This extended data set tends to group the two lepidosirenid lungfish lineages (Lepidosiren and Protopterus) with Neoceratodus as their sister group. All lungfishes seem to be more closely related to tetrapods than the coelacanth is. This result appears to rule out the possibility that the coelacanth lineage gave rise to land vertebrates. The common ancestor of lungfishes and tetrapods might have possessed multiple morphological traits that are shared by lungfishes and tetrapods [Meyer and Wilson (1990) listed 14 such traits]. Those traits that seem to link Latimeria and tetrapods are arguably due to convergent evolution or reversals and not to common descent. In this way, the molecular tree facilitates an evolutionary interpretation of the morphological differences among the living forms. We recommended that the extinct groups of lobe-finned fishes be placed onto the molecular tree that has lungfishes and not the coelacanth more closely related to tetrapods. The placement of fossils would help to further interpret the sequence of morphological events and innovations associated with the origin of tetrapods but appears to be problematic because the quality of fossils is not always high enough, and differences among paleontologists in the interpretation of the fossils have stood in the way of a consensus opinion for the branching order among lobefinned fishes. Marshall and Schultze (1992) criticized the morphological analysis presented by Meyer and Wilson (1990) and suggest that 13 of the 14 morphological traits that support the sister group relationship of lungfishes and tetrapods are not shared derived characters. Here we present further alternative viewpoints to the ones of Marshall and Schultze (1992) from the paleontological literature. We argue that all available information (paleontological, neontological, and molecular data) and rigorous cladistic methodology should be used when relating fossils and extant taxa in a phylogenetic framework.
