For studies that aim to assess biological ankle function, calculating ankle joint complex (AJC) power between the calcaneus and shank is recommended over conventional inverse dynamics estimates between a rigid-body foot and shank. However, when designing a new experiment, it remains unclear whether holes should be cut in footwear to permit motion tracking via skin-mounted markers, or whether marker placement locations should be tightly controlled across conditions. Here we provide data to assist researchers in answering these questions. We performed a gait analysis study of walking (0.8, 1.2, 1.6 m·s−1) and running (2.6, 2.8, 3.0 m·s−1) while subjects (N = 10) wore custom-modified footwear, which allowed markers to be placed either on the shoe, or on the skin via cut-out windows in the shoes. First, we compared foot markers affixed to the skin vs. on the same locations on the shoe. Using statistical non-parametric mapping techniques, we discovered that skin vs. shoe markers had no statistically significant effect on net AJC power estimates throughout stance phase, for all walking and running speeds. Second, we compared calcaneal markers in the nominal shoe configuration vs. markers in a nearby location (∼27 mm below) on the shoe. We observed significant differences when marker placement on the shoe was varied, which may be relevant to repeated-measures study designs. The results suggest that when computing AJC power for walking and running, you may want to put down the scissors (i.e., forego cutting holes in your footwear), and instead pick up a Sharpie® (pen) or use a template, to maintain consistent marker placement across trials and conditions.  相似文献

Partial rootzone drying (PRD) is widely investigated as an effective irrigation technique, resulting in higher water use efficiency and yield for plants growing under mild water deficit. Nutrition is another important factor affecting plant yield, but nutrient acquisition has only rarely been considered in conjunction with PRD. Here we investigate the interaction between water and fertilizer supply in a pot experiment with oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.). Eight treatments were set up for the experiment, a factorial combination of four watering regimes (100% control watering at both sides of the plants; 50% control watering at both sides of the plants; 50% fixed watering applied only to one side of the plants; 50% alternate watering applied alternately to both sides of the plant) and two fertilizer placement levels (uniform over the entire pot, and patchy supplied to one side). For the 50% watering treatments, the total amount of water supplied to the plants was the same, only the pattern of application differed between treatments. Also the total fertilizer applied was the same for all treatments. Oilseed rape roots foraged effectively for water and nutrients resulting in relatively small differences in nutrient uptake and above-ground growth among the water-deficit treatments. Placing fertilizer at one side of the plants increased nutrient uptake, but there were differences between the water treatments and interactions with water uptake. Alternate watering resulted in the highest growth, as a result of the largest nitrogen and phosphorus uptake with the smallest root investment among the three water deficit treatments. Fixed watering resulted in poorest performance when fertilizer was uniformly spread throughout the pot, because the plants were unable to acquire the nutrients on the dry side. Our results show that PRD can be well combined with patchy fertilizer supply, but that reduced nutrient uptake may be expected when nutrients are supplied in parts of the soil volume that remain too dry. 牦牛的起源与属级分类学地位至今仍然存在一定的争议。我们测定了家养牦牛和野生牦牛线粒体控制区(D-loop)序列,并以此构建牦牛和牛属、野牛属、水牛属以及非洲水牛属相关种的系统发育树。研究结果表明线粒体D-loop区与Cytb基因序列在构建牛族的系统发育具有同样重要的价值。系统发育关系显示野牛属的灭绝种草原野牛与现存种美洲野牛先聚合为一单系群,然后再和牦牛形成一单系分支,表明牦牛与野牛属的草原野牛、美洲野牛亲缘关系最近,具有最近的共同祖先,而与牛属的其它亚洲物种亲缘关系较远。因此,本研究不支持将牦牛独立为牦牛属———Poephagus,牛属与野牛属在分类上也应合并为一个属。基于上述研究结果和化石证据,我们进一步对牦牛起源的历史背景进行了讨论,认为牦牛与野牛属的分化是由于第四纪气候变化在欧亚大陆发生的,野牛通过白令陆桥进入北美;冰期结束后,由于欧亚大陆其它地区温度升高,牦牛只能局限分布在较为寒冷的青藏高原;而野牛属在北美先后分化为草原野牛和美洲野牛,前者可能是后者的直接祖先。  相似文献

Nutrient hot spots in the soil have a limited life span, but the costs and benefits for root foraging are still underexposed. We assessed short-term costs that may arise when a nutrient-rich patch induces root proliferation, but then rapidly disappears. Rumex palustris plants were grown with a homogeneous or a heterogeneous nutrient application. After root proliferation in a nutrient-rich patch, nutrient supply was switched from homogeneous to heterogeneous, and vice versa, or the patch location was changed. R. palustris proliferated its roots in the rich patch. After switching, the relative growth rates of the roots were adjusted to the novel pattern of nutrient availability. However, the changes in local root biomass lagged behind the rapid shift in nutrient supply, because the root mass realized in specific sectors could not be rapidly relocated. Despite this, R. palustris did not exhibit costs of switching in terms of biomass or nitrogen uptake. Our data suggest that rapid shifts in uptake rate and redistribution of nitrogen within the plant may have lowered the costs of incorrect root placement.  相似文献

We conducted two trapping experiments in green ash plantations in Ontario, Canada to compare the response of the emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis, to (Z)‐3‐hexenol (Z3‐6:OH) and manuka oil. In the first experiment, Z3‐6:OH (7.6 mg/day) in purple prism traps hung 1.5 m above ground caught significantly more EAB than the unbaited controls, with male catches significantly greater than female catches at two locations. Manuka oil (50 mg/day) attracted equal numbers of males and females but they were significantly greater than the controls at only one location. Adding (Z)‐3‐hexenal or (Z)‐3‐hexenyl acetate in binary or ternary combinations with Z3‐6:OH did not enhance trap catch. In the second experiment, Z3‐6:OH released at two rates (7.6 or 80 mg/day) in light green prism traps placed in the ash canopy also caught significantly more males than females and more males than the unbaited controls or manuka oil‐baited traps. Manuka oil had no significant effect on catches relative to the controls. Combining Z3‐6:OH with manuka oil did not enhance catches of EAB. We conclude that there was a strong male‐biased EAB response to Z3‐6:OH lures, whereas manuka oil, when effective, attracted both sexes equally. Z3‐6:OH in light green prism traps in the canopy is an effective lure for EAB, particularly for males.  相似文献

目的:探讨伤椎置钉与不置钉短节段内固定对胸腰椎爆裂骨折患者临床疗效及血清炎症损伤介质的影响。方法:回顾性分析2017年3月~2018年7月期间内蒙古医科大学第三附属医院骨科收治的269例胸腰椎爆裂骨折患者的临床资料,根据手术方式的不同分为A组(n=131,给予短节段内固定治疗)和B组(n=138,给予伤椎置钉联合短节段内固定治疗),比较两组患者围术期指标、影像学指标、血清炎症损伤介质及并发症。结果:两组术后1周、术后半年、术后1年伤椎椎体前缘高度呈先升高后降低趋势,且B组术后半年、术后1年伤椎椎体前缘高度均低于A组(P<0.05);两组术后1周、术后半年、术后1年Cobb'S角呈先降低后升高趋势,且B组术后半年、术后1年Cobb'S角均大于A组(P<0.05)。两组患者手术时间、术中出血量、住院时间及并发症发生率比较无差异(P>0.05)。两组术后3d血清白细胞介素-6(IL-6)、白细胞介素-8(IL-8)、白细胞介素-1β(IL-1β)、肿瘤坏死因子-α(TNF-α)、髓过氧化物酶(MPO)水平均升高(P<0.05),但两组术后3d血清炎症损伤介质比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。结论:伤椎置钉与不置钉短节段内固定治疗胸腰椎爆裂骨折患者,可获得相似的临床疗效,且对患者损伤程度基本一致,但伤椎置钉在恢复伤椎椎体前缘高度、Cobb'S角方面更优,临床应用价值较高。  相似文献

The catalytic subunit of DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PKcs) plays an important role in DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair as the underlying mechanism of the non-homologous end joining pathway. When DSBs occur, DNA-PKcs is rapidly phosphorylated at both the Thr-2609 and Ser-2056 residues, and such phosphorylations are critical for DSB repair. In this study we report that, in addition to responding to DSBs, DNA-PKcs is activated and phosphorylated in normal cell cycle progression through mitosis. Mitotic induction of DNA-PKcs phosphorylation is closely associated with the spindle apparatus at centrosomes and kinetochores. Furthermore, depletion of DNA-PKcs protein levels or inhibition of DNA-PKcs kinase activity results in the delay of mitotic transition because of chromosome misalignment. These results demonstrate for the first time that DNA-PKcs, in addition to its role in DSB repair, is a critical regulator of mitosis and could modulate microtubule dynamics in chromosome segregation.  相似文献

An understanding of recovery as a personal and subjective experience has emerged within mental health systems. This meaning of recovery now underpins mental health policy in many countries. Developing a focus on this type of recovery will involve transformation within mental health systems. Human systems do not easily transform. In this paper, we identify seven mis‐uses (“abuses”) of the concept of recovery: recovery is the latest model; recovery does not apply to “my” patients; services can make people recover through effective treatment; compulsory detention and treatment aid recovery; a recovery orientation means closing services; recovery is about making people independent and normal; and contributing to society happens only after the person is recovered. We then identify ten empirically‐validated interventions which support recovery, by targeting key recovery processes of connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment (the CHIME framework). The ten interventions are peer support workers, advance directives, wellness recovery action planning, illness management and recovery, REFOCUS, strengths model, recovery colleges or recovery education programs, individual placement and support, supported housing, and mental health trialogues. Finally, three scientific challenges are identified: broadening cultural understandings of recovery, implementing organizational transformation, and promoting citizenship.  相似文献
