The paper contains a discussion of the interrelations between the sciences used by managers of forest land to improve their management, in particular with respect to the plant nutrient economy of the forest ecosystems. Both site studies and studies of nutrient cycling have been carried out for long periods without proper consideration of tree nutrition. Therefore these studies contributed less to the understanding of the role of nutrients as regulators of processes in ecosystems than might have been expected. This situation has improved, especially within the last decade. In addition the necessity to manage forest land for environmental values as well as for forest yield requires new interdisciplinary approaches in the study of the roles of plant nutrients in the forest. Even more branches of biological and environmental sciences than those just mentioned must be involved.  相似文献

Tomatoes grown in traditional mediums such as peat moss are usually supplied with essential nutrients by preplant fertilization and in the later growth stages by top dressing application to the root zone. According to the data from literature the efficient method of nutrient supply during the intensive stage of growth may be estimated as by foliar spraying. In the greenhouse experiment conducted in 1998–1999 a preplant fertilization by multicomponential fertilizer MIS-4 was applied to peat moss growing medium in full (4 kg per m3) and half (2 kg per m3) of recommended rate. Supplemental fertilization during the growing period was provided to the root zone or by using liquid multicomponential fertilizers Ekolist S and Mikrosol U in 5 sprays conducted at two week intervals. Results of the study proved that advantageous effect of foliar tomato nutrion grown in eat substrate was observed only in treatments with restricted supply of fertilizers to the growing medium. The maximum fruit yield was received from plots provided by the reduced preplant MIS-4 dose to 50 % of recommended rate combined with foliar sprays by Ekolist S. Such system of fertilization enhanced the marketable yield of fruit by 9.8 % and early yield by 11.3 % as compared to that obtained with preplant and top dressing soil application. Foliar nutrion did not change dry matter and vitamin C content and increased total and reducing sugars accumulation in tomato fruits.  相似文献

Phosphatase activity of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi has attracted attention in three fairly distinct domains: intracellular enzymes with defined metabolic functions that have been studied in intraradical hyphae, histochemical staining of alkaline phosphatase as an indicator of fungal activity measured both intra- and extraradically, and extracellular activity related to mineralization of organic P (Po) compounds that may enhance mycorrhizal utilization of an important nutrient pool in soil. This review focuses on the latter subjects with emphasis on extraradical mycelium (ERM), while it draws on selected data from the vast material available concerning phosphatases of other organisms. We conclude that histochemical staining of alkaline phosphatase is a sensitive and suitable method for monitoring the effect of adverse conditions encountered by ERM both as a symbiotically functional entity in soil, and in vitro without modifying interference of soil or other solid substrates. Furthermore, the quantitative importance of extracellular enzymes for P nutrition of AM plants is estimated to be insignificant. This is concluded from the low quantitative contribution extracellular hyphae of AM fungi give to the total phosphatase activity in soil, and from estimations of which processes that may be rate limiting in organic P mineralization. Maximum values for the former is in the order of a few percent. As for the latter, solubilization of Po seems to be far more important than Po hydrolysis for utilization of Po by AM fungi and plants, as both endogenous soil phosphatase activity and phosphatases of other soil organisms are ubiquitous and abundant. Our discussion of mycorrhizal phosphatases supports the view that extracellular phosphatases of roots and micro-organisms are to a large extent released incidentally into soil, and that the source has limited benefit from its activity. Abstract. In this study we used species inventory data collected in 1970 and 1993 from 132 plots in a 14.5ha deciduous forest to examine local extinction and colonization processes among 45 field layer species. Local colonization rate was positively related to both seed size and seed dispersal features. Local extinction rate was negatively related to seed size. Growth form (clonal vs. non-clonal) and presence of a seed bank were not found to be associated with local dynamics. Despite an overall constancy in species composition during this period, plants exhibited a considerable mobility among the 132 plots. This pattern conformed to a suggested ‘carousel model’ of species mobility in grasslands. A tentative suggestion is that this mobility acts on a comparatively broader spatio-temporal scale in deciduous forests as compared with grasslands. Additional data are presented indicating that species abundance (frequency) among field layer plants in deciduous forest communities is consistent among forest fragments, and when comparing local and regional scales. The main conclusion is that life history features of the seed dispersal/recruitment phase, particularly seed size, are causally associated with abundance patterns at least at a local scale, but possibly also on a broader regional scale.  相似文献

The influence exerted by Pseudomonas fluorescens, strain 63-28R, in stimulating plant defense reactions was investigated using an in-vitro system in which Ri T-DNA-transformed pea (Pisum sativum L.) roots were subsequently infected with Pythium ultimum. Cytological investigations of samples from P. fluorescens-inoculated roots revealed that the bacteria multiplied abundantly at the root surface and colonized a small number of epidermal and cortical cells. Penetration of the epidermis occurred through the openings made by the disruption of the fibrillar network at the junction of adjacent epidermal cell walls. Direct cell wall penetration was never observed and bacterial ingress into the root tissues proceeded via an intercellular route. Striking differences in the extent of fungal colonization were observed between bacterized and non-bacterized pea roots following inoculation with P. ultimum. In non-bacterized roots, the pathogen multiplied abundantly through most of the tissues while in bacterized roots, pathogen growth was restricted to the epidermis and the outer cortex. At the root surface, the bacteria interacted with the pathogen, in a way similar to that observed in dual culture tests. Most Pythium cells were severely damaged but fungal penetration by the bacteria was never observed. Droplets of the amorphous material formed upon interaction between the bacteria and the host root were frequently found at the fungal cell surface. Incubation of sections with a -1,4-exoglucanase-gold complex revealed that the cell wall of markedly altered Pythium hyphae was structurally preserved. Successful penetration of the root epidermis was achieved by the few hyphae of P. ultimum that could escape the first defensive line in the rhizosphere. Most hyphae of the pathogen that penetrated the epidermis exhibited considerable changes. This paper describes the results of the archaeobotanical examination of four Late Neolithic lakeshore settlements on Lake Biel in Switzerland. Due to the excellent preservation conditions in lakeshore settlements, non-carbonized as well as carbonized seeds and fruits were recovered in large numbers. In addition to the diaspore analyses, some samples of charcoal and moss were identified. The spectrum of cultivated plants was markedly different between the sites. In the transition from the 34th to 33rd century B.C. (sites Nidau, Lüscherz and Lattrigen ‘VI’) naked wheat and barley were predominant, while in the 32nd century B.C. (Lattrigen'VII') emmer (a glume wheat) was most abundant. Flax and opium poppy were of great importance during the whole late Neolithic period. In addition to cereals, a large number of cereal weeds were detected. The wild flora included a high percentage of aquatic and lake-shore plants which results from the strong influence of water on the cultural layers. Taxa of flood-plain forest are also common. The proportion of potential grassland plants was low (in total only 13 taxa) which suggests that in addition to the cultivated fields only few pastures and grassland areas existed close to the settlements.  相似文献
