通过对引种栽培的8种草坪草的物候期、覆盖度、再生速度、品质特性及抗逆性等方面进行分析研究和综合评价,筛选出适合北方温带环境条件下栽培的几种优良草坪草品种——新哥来德(Poa pratensis cv.Nugtade)、枪手股(P.pratensis cv.BlueChip)、午夜(P.pratensis cv.Midnight)、帕特(Agrostis tenuis cv.Putter)、贝克(碧西)(Festuca arundinacea cv.Plxie)等。对陕西关中草坪草的引种和适地栽植提供一定的理论依据。  相似文献

In order to compare the petroleum tolerance and phytoremediation ability of a native grass, Agropyron desertorum (desert Wheatgrass) with Cynodon spp. (Bermuda grass) in a petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil, a 7-month greenhouse experiment was performed. There were 4 soil treatments with 0% (uncontaminated soil), 2%, 4%, and 12% (woil/wsoil) petroleum concentration. Parameters including shoot and root fresh weight and dry weight, root penetration depth and root density depth, soil respiration, and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) degradation were measured during and after experiments. The results showed an increase in shoot fresh weight of A. desertorum in soil polluted with 2% petroleum sludge compared to the uncontaminated soil, whereas the growth of Bermuda grass significantly decreased in corresponding treatment. Root growth of A. desertorum was decreased in 2% and 4% petroleum sludge, whereas it was increased in Bermuda grass species. Overall, root fresh weight of Bermuda grass was higher than that of A. desertorum in all treatments. Significant increase in microorganisms' activity was observed in the presence of petroleum sludge and plants in soil compared with uncontaminated soil without plants, and the highest soil respiration (37.6 mg C-CO2/kg soil day) has been observed in the rhizosphere of Bermuda grass in treatment with 12% petroleum sludge. Plants had a significant role in the degradation of soil contaminants as TPH degradation in planted soils was significantly higher than that in unplanted soil (TPH degradation (%) was 30.4 and 38.9 in A. desertorum and Bermuda grass, respectively, whereas it was just 13.3 in unplanted soil). The rhizosphere of Bermuda grass had significantly less residual TPHs compared to A. desertorum. The results indicated that both Cynodon spp. and A. desertorum had a peculiar tolerance to petroleum pollution. Therefore, as Bermuda grass has already been suggested to be a typical and efficient species for phytoremediating petroleum-contaminated sites, A. desertorum may also prove to be a suitable native alternative.  相似文献

在外温动物热生理特征的进化理论中,“静态”和“易变”是两个持续争论的对立观点。热生理学特征的种内变异是检验此类假设的最有力证据。本研究比较了不同经度地区北草蜥的热环境和热生理特征,以检验“静态”和“易变”假设。东部沿海地区(宁德)的环境温度高于内陆地区(贵阳),与之相适应,沿海地区北草蜥的喜好体温也高于内陆地区。然而,两地区蜥蜴的上临界温度和下临界温度无显著差异。尽管这些热生理学特征的种群间变异趋势并不一致,但是喜好温度随环境温度变化而改变的结果符合“易变”假设的预测。此外,本研究表明蜥蜴的喜好体温存在沿经度方向的地理变异。  相似文献

We explored the net effects of grazing on soil C and N pools in a Patagonian shrub–grass steppe (temperate South America). Net effects result from the combination of direct impacts of grazing on biogeochemical characteristics of microsites with indirect effects on relative cover of vegetated and unvegetated microsites. Within five independent areas, we sampled surface soils in sites subjected to three grazing intensities: (1) ungrazed sites inside grazing exclosures, (2) moderately grazed sites adjacent to them, and (3) intensely grazed sites within the same paddock. Grazing significantly reduced soil C and N pools, although this pattern was clearest in intensely grazed sites. This net effect was due to the combination of a direct reduction of soil N content in bare soil patches, and indirect effects mediated by the increase of the cover of bare soil microsites, with lower C and N content than either grass or shrub microsites. This increase in bare soil cover was accompanied by a reduction in cover of preferred grass species and standing dead material. Finally, stable isotope signatures varied significantly among grazed and ungrazed sites, with δ15N and δ13C significantly depleted in intensely grazed sites, suggesting reduced mineralization with increased grazing intensity. In the Patagonian steppe, grazing appears to exert a negative effect on soil C and N cycles; sound management practices must incorporate the importance of species shifts within life form, and the critical role of standing dead material in maintaining soil C and N stocks and biogeochemical processes. Abstract. The central grassland region of North America is characterized by large gradients of temperature and precipitation. These climatic variables are important determinants of the distribution of plant species, and strongly influence plant morphology and tissue chemistry. We analysed regional patterns of plant litter quality as they vary with climate in grassland ecosystems throughout central North America including tall‐grass prairie, mixed grass prairie, shortgrass steppe, and hot desert grasslands. An extensive database from the International Biological Program and the Long‐Term Ecological Research Program allowed us to isolate the effects of climate from those of plant functional types on litter quality. Our analysis of grass species confirms a previously recognized positive correlation between C/N ratios and precipitation. Precipitation exhibited a similar positive relationship with lignin/N and percent lignin. Although there was no significant correlation between temperature and C/N, there was a significant positive relationship between temperature and both percent lignin and lignin/N. Among functional types, C3 grasses had a slightly lower C/N ratio than C4 grasses. Tall grass species exhibited higher C/N, lignin/N, and percent lignin than short grass species. This understanding of the regional patterns of litter quality and the factors controlling them provides us with a greater knowledge of the effect that global change and the accompanying feedbacks may have on ecosystem processes.  相似文献

Lolium temulentum L. (Darnel ryegrass) has been proposed to be used as a model species for functional genomics studies in forage and turf grasses, because it is a self-fertile, diploid species with a short life cycle and is closely related to other grasses. Embryogenic calluses were induced from mature embryos of a double haploid line developed through anther culture. The calluses were broken up into small pieces and used for Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. A. tumefaciens strain EHA105 harboring pCAMBIA1301 and pCAMBIA1305.2 vectors were used to infect embryogenic callus pieces. Hygromycin was used as a selection agent in stable transformation experiments. Hygromycin resistant calluses were obtained after 4–6 weeks of selection and transgenic plants were produced in 10–13 weeks after Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Fertile plants were readily obtained after transferring the transgenics to the greenhouse. Transgenic nature of the regenerated plants was demonstrated by Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Southern hybridization analysis, and GUS staining. Progeny analysis showed Mendelian inheritance of the transgenes. The transformation system provides a valuable tool for functionality tests of candidate genes in forage and turf grasses.  相似文献

Changed fire regimes and the introduction of rabbits, cats, foxes, and large exotic herbivores have driven widespread ecological catastrophe in Australian arid and semi‐arid zones, which encompass over two‐thirds of the continent. These threats have caused the highest global mammal extinction rates in the last 200 years, as well as significantly undermining social, economic, and cultural practices of Aboriginal peoples of this region. However, a new and potentially more serious threat is emerging. Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.) is a globally significant invader now widespread across central Australia, but the threat this ecological transformer species poses to biodiversity, ecosystem function, and culture has received relatively little attention. Our analyses suggest threats from buffel grass in arid and semi‐arid areas of Australia are at least equivalent in magnitude to those posed by invasive animals and possibly higher, because unlike these more recognized threats, buffel has yet to occupy its potential distribution. Buffel infestation also increases the intensity and frequency of wildfires that affect biodiversity, cultural pursuits, and productivity. We compare the logistical and financial challenges of creating and maintaining areas free of buffel for the protection of biodiversity and cultural values, with the creation and maintenance of refuges from introduced mammals or from large‐scale fire in natural habitats. The scale and expense of projected buffel management costs highlight the urgent policy, research, and financing initiatives essential to safeguard threatened species, ecosystems, and cultural values of Aboriginal people in central Australia.  相似文献

Reforestation has been suggested as a strategy to control Saccharum spontaneum, an invasive grass that impedes regeneration in disturbed areas of the Panama Canal Watershed (PCW). In this study, the effects of different intensities of herbicide application and mechanical cleanings on the growth and mortality of Terminalia amazonia and Tectona grandis saplings were evaluated in S. spontaneum grasslands within the PCW. Both species exhibited greater height, basal diameter, wood volume index, wider crown diameters, deeper live crowns, and lower mortality with increasing intensity of mechanical cleanings and herbicide application. Height and competition of S. spontaneum correlated negatively with intensity of mechanical cleanings and herbicide application. Grass control costs did not differ between tree species but did increase significantly with intensity of mechanical cleanings and herbicide application. We recommend fire suppression, annual herbicide application, and at least four mechanical cleanings per year in Tec. grandis plantations during the first 3 years of plantation establishment. Given the slower initial growth and mortality patterns of Ter. amazonia, aggressive grass control treatments should be continued until individuals are sufficiently large to effectively shade S. spontaneum. Results from this study suggest that reforestation with commercial timber species can rapidly establish and control S. spontaneum growth in the PCW. Reforestation of areas already invaded or at risk of being invaded by S. spontaneum appears to be a viable strategy to reduce its abundance and subsequent negative ecological effects in the PCW.  相似文献

Transferrins, found in invertebrates and vertebrates, form a physiologically important family of proteins playing a major role in iron acquisition and transport, defense against microbial pathogens, growth and differentiation. These proteins are bilobal in structure and each lobe is composed of two domains divided by a cleft harboring an iron atom. Vertebrate transferrins comprise of serotransferrins, lactoferrins and ovotransferrins. In mammals serotransferrins transport iron in physiological fluids and deliver it to cells, while lactoferrins scavenge iron, limiting its availability to invading microbes. In oviparous vertebrates there is only one transferrin gene, expressed either in the liver to be delivered to physiological fluids as serotransferrin, or in the oviduct with a final localization in egg white as ovotransferrin. Being products of one gene sero- and ovotransferrin are identical at the amino-acid sequence level but with different, cell specific glycosylation patterns. Our knowledge of the mechanisms of transferrin iron binding and release is based on sequence and structural data obtained for human serotransferrin and hen and duck ovotransferrins. No sequence information about other ovotransferrins was available until our recent publication of turkey, ostrich, and red-eared turtle (TtrF) ovotransferrin mRNA sequences [Ciuraszkiewicz, J., Olczak, M., Watorek, W., 2006. Isolation, cloning and sequencing of transferrins from red-eared turtle, African ostrich and turkey. Comp. Biochem. Physiol. 143 B, 301-310]. In the present paper, ten new reptilian mRNA transferrin sequences obtained from the Nile crocodile (NtrF), bearded dragon (BtrF), Cuban brown anole (AtrF), veiled and Mediterranean chameleons (VtrF and KtrF), sand lizard (StrF), leopard gecko (LtrF), Burmese python (PtrF), African house snake (HtrF), and grass snake (GtrF) are presented and analyzed. Nile crocodile and red-eared turtle transferrins have a disulphide bridge pattern identical to known bird homologues. A partially different disulphide bridge pattern was found in the Squamata (snakes and lizards). The possibility of a unique interdomain disulphide bridge was predicted for LtrF. Differences were found in iron-binding centers from those of previously known transferrins. Substitutions were found in the iron-chelating residues of StrF and TtrF and in the synergistic anion-binding residues of NtrF. In snakes, the transferrin (PtrF, HtrF and GtrF) N-lobe "dilysine trigger" occurring in all other known transferrins was not found, which indicates a different mechanism of iron release.  相似文献

Plant invasions have dramatic aboveground effects on plant community composition, but their belowground effects remain largely uncharacterized. Soil microorganisms directly interact with plants and mediate many nutrient transformations in soil. We hypothesized that belowground changes to the soil microbial community provide a mechanistic link between exotic plant invasion and changes to ecosystem nutrient cycling. To examine this possible link, monocultures and mixtures of exotic and native species were maintained for 4 years in a California grassland. Gross rates of nitrogen (N) mineralization and nitrification were quantified with 15N pool dilution and soil microbial communities were characterized with DNA‐based methods. Exotic grasses doubled gross nitrification rates, in part by increasing the abundance and changing the composition of ammonia‐oxidizing bacteria in soil. These changes may translate into altered ecosystem N budgets after invasion. Altered soil microbial communities and their resulting effects on ecosystem processes may be an invisible legacy of exotic plant invasions.  相似文献
