This study explores the unique growth-regulatory roles of two naturally occurring auxins, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and 4-chloroindole-3-acetic
acid (4-Cl-IAA), and their interactions with gibberellin (GA) during early pea (Pisum sativum L.) fruit development. We have previously shown that 4-Cl-IAA can replace the seed requirement in pea pericarp growth (length
and fresh weight), whereas IAA had no effect or was inhibitory. When applied simultaneously, gibberellin (GA3 or GA1) and 4-Cl-IAA had a synergistic effect on pericarp growth. In the present study, we found that simultaneous application of
IAA and GA3 to deseeded pericarps inhibited GA3-stimulated growth. The inhibitory effect of IAA on GA-stimulated growth was mimicked by treatment with ethephon (ethylene
releasing agent), and the inhibitory effects of IAA and ethylene on GA-mediated growth were reversed by silver thiosulfate
(STS), an ethylene action inhibitor. Although pretreatment with STS could retard senescence of IAA-treated pericarps, STS
pretreatment did not lead to IAA-induced pericarp growth. Although 4-Cl-IAA stimulated growth whereas IAA was ineffective,
both auxins induced similar levels of ethylene evolution. However, only 4-Cl-IAA-stimulated growth was insensitive to the
effects of ethylene. Gibberellin treatment did not influence the amount of ethylene released from pericarps in the presence
or absence of either auxin. We propose a growth regulatory role for 4-Cl-IAA through induction of GA biosynthesis and inhibition
of ethylene action. Additionally, ethylene (IAA-induced or IAA-independent) may inhibit GA responses under physiological conditions

Astragalus rahiminejadii , a new species endemic to Iran, is described and illustrated. This species, which belongs to section Astragalus , is confined to the western part of Iran (Prov. Kermanshah) and is known only from a single population. Seed testa morphology as viewed under the scanning electron microscope is discussed and photomicrographs are provided. In this study, we comparatively investigated three endemic Salvia species spreading in Erzincan (Turkey) in terms of anatomy and micromorphology. For anatomical investigation, cross sections taken from stems and leaves of the species were examined under light microscope. For micromorphological investigation, epidermal surface and nutlet structure were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The S. euphratica and S. divaricata species were examined anatomically and micromorphologically for the first time, and S. hypargea was examined micromorphologically for the first time. In anatomical examinations, it was seen that stem and leaf structures of the species were similar. In micromorphological analyses, it has been seen that hairiness of the nutlet surface and nutlet ornamentations (verrucate and rugose type) created a difference between the species. 相似文献

A comprehensive study based on gland and seed micromorphology in Euphorbia (Euphorbiaceae) for species distributed in Iranian highlands is presented. A total of 86 species were studied. The gland structure was examined by direct field observations. Taxonomically important characters of glands were observed and measured: size, texture, shape, color, and horns. For species out of Iran herbarium materials were studied. Seed characteristics were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as dissecting light microscopy. Significant features are: seed size, seed shape, presence of caruncle, shape of caruncle, and seed surface ornamentation. A phylogenetic study using Maximum Parsimony (MP) and Bayesian Inference (BI) was performed based on sequences of nuclear DNA internal transcribed spacers (ITS) for selected species representing the main clades known in Euphorbia and with special focus on the species distributed in Iranian highlands. ITS sequences for 20 accessions representing 19 species are provided for the first time, and 48 accessions of 47 species were used from GenBank. The topologies of both analyses were congruent. The results indicate: (1) four main clades with high supports in subgen. Esula which are appropriate to be recognized at sectional rank. (2) E. larica is nested within clade A including few members of subgen. Rhizanthium and is closely related to sect. Balsamis, which is suggested here to be transferred from subgen. Esula into subgen. Rhizanthium. (3) E. osyridea of the monotypic subsect. Osyrideae is closely related to E. buhsei and to the members of sect. Esula. Tracing morphological characters on the phylogenetic tree shows that several morphological characters, such as seed ornamentation applied in previous subgeneric classification of the subgen. Esula, are homoplasious, but the gland structure and capsule surface characters are more reliable for classification purposes. 相似文献

In order to improve understanding of the systematic relationships between taxa and of tepal-pollinator and tepal-habitat relationships, a detailed scanning electron microscopy (SEW study of the adaxial tepal surface of 135 taxa belonging to c. 14 genera in the tribes Persicarieae and Polygoneae (Polygonoideae-Polygonaceae) was carried out. The tepal surfaces have revealed some striking differences among the genera studied. Three main patterns of sculpturing and cell shape can be recognized. Type I: mostly rectangular to elongate cells with straight or undulating anticlinal walls; the cuticles smooth or striate in longitudinal direction and often continuous (Persicaria, Bistortu, Aconogonon, Koenigia and some species of Fagopyrum). Type II: irregular tesselated to elongated cells, rarely rectangular with mostly sinuate anticlinal walls; the cuticles rarely with longitudinal striation, but with strong orthogonal to reticulate ridges or striae, often without correlation between cells (Polygonum s.s., Polygonella, Fallopia, Parapteropyrum, Pteropyrum, Atraphaxis and Calligonum). Type III: mostly irregular, mammilliform, papillose cells with either longitudinal tightly pressed or randomly ridged cuticles (some species of Fagotyrum and Oxygonum). The present data generally support the division of Polygoneae and Persicarieae by Ronse Decraene & Akeroyd. The mammilliform, papillate epidermis of tepals in Oxygonum and some Fagopyrum is probably well-adapted to entomophily either as a foothold or even as a light-trap, and also shows some correlation with heterostyly. It is noteworthy that the tepal structure of Polygonella (tesselated form) is highly similar to that of Polygonum s. s. (especially P. sect. Duravia). Cuticular striation alone does not appear to have much systematic value, but has a mechanical function in affording extra strength to the cell walls. Some correlations between the degree/shape of cuticles and the pollination mechanisms or the habitat of each taxon are also briefly discussed. It is concluded that the studied tepal characters can be useful in improving the classification of tribes Persicarieae and Polygoneae, arid give additional support at the infrageneric level. 相似文献

A -amylase (EC 3.2.1.2) was identified in the outer pericarp (P) of developing seeds of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and compared with the well known -amylase which is synthesized during seed development in the starchy endosperm (E). The enzyme P already exists in the tissues before anthesis and vanishes at the time when E starts to accumulate. The isoelectric-focusing patterns of P and E are very similar. The relative molecular weight (Mr) of P is slightly higher than that of E (66 and 64.5 kDa, respectively). Both P and E exhibit common epitopes in addition to epitopes specific for each of them. The two enzymes were identified in small amounts in the green tissues of the developing seeds (inner pericarp and testa). No antigenic difference was detected between P and the -amylases of roots and leaves.Abbreviations

- Pollination in Solanum (Solanaceae) species is commonly performed by female bees, which vibrate anthers to extract pollen. Another pollen removal type is by male euglossine bees, milking the anthers when searching for floral scents produced by secretory tissues (osmophorous) at the swollen connective of the anthers of species in the Cyphomandra clade. Some species of this clade, however, are buzz‐pollinated and present papillate anthers that should also have secretory activity, a hypothesis here tested.
- The anthers of Solanum luridifuscescens were fixed at different stages of development and analysed under light microscopy, SEM and TEM. Histochemical tests for the detection of starch and lipids were done.
- Epidermal cells of the abaxial surface of the anthers were visibly papillose, had large nuclei and dense cytoplasm rich in organelles such as mitochondria and plastids, typical features of secretory tissues. In this site, lipid droplets were detected, concomitantly with starch consumption, compatible with the secretory process in osmophores. No exudate or accumulation of substances was seen on the surface; in agreement with a previous pollination study performed in field conditions, where no pollinators were observed collecting floral scents, only pollen. The histochemical and structural analyses have evidenced the lipidic composition of the secretion, strongly pointing to terpenes as the secreted compounds.
- Ours findings show that papillae of the anthers have secretory activities that produce lipophilic compounds. This does not result in resources for bees, but could be an evolutionary step to the development of more specialised anthers in the Cyphomandra clade.

Objective
To perform an in situ evaluation of surface roughness and micromorphology of two soft liner materials for dentures at different time intervals.Background
The surface roughness of materials may influence the adhesion of micro‐organisms and inflammation of the mucosal tissues. The in situ evaluation of surface roughness and the micromorphology of soft liner materials over the course of time may present results different from those of in vitro studies, considering the constant presence of saliva and food, the changes in temperature and the pH level in the oral cavity.Materials and methods
Forty‐eight rectangular specimens of each of the two soft liner materials were fabricated: a silicone‐based material (Mucopren Soft) and an acrylic resin‐based material (Trusoft). The specimens were placed in the dentures of 12 participants (n = 12), and the materials were evaluated for surface roughness and micromorphology at different time intervals: 0, 7, 30 and 60 days. Roughness (Ra) was evaluated by means of a roughness tester. Surface micromorphology was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy.Results
Analysis of variance for randomised block design and Tukey's test showed that surface roughness values were lower in the groups using the silicone‐based material at all the time intervals (P < .0001). The average surface roughness was higher at time interval 0 than at the other intervals, for both materials (P < .0001). The surface micromorphology showed that the silicone material presented a more regular and smoother surface than the acrylic resin‐based material.Conclusion
The surface roughness of acrylic resin‐based and silicone‐based denture soft liner materials decreased after 7 days of evaluation, leading to a smoother surface over time. The silicone‐based material showed lower roughness values and a smoother surface than the acrylic resin‐based material, thereby making it preferred when selecting more appropriate material, due its tendency to promote less biofilm build‐up. 相似文献29.

We aimed to describe and analyse the morphological, anatomical and micromorphological traits of 36 Turkish orchids representing 12 genera (e.g. Anacamptis, Cephalanthera, Dactylorhiza, Orchis, Serapias) in detail and analyse their usability for solving phylogenetic and taxonomic issues. We applied UPGMA cluster analysis to anatomical, morphological and micromorphological characters such as root tubers, leaf and flower structures, pit, sclerenchymatic sheath, vascular bundle shape, crystal and starch, exodermis and endodermis structure, stomata type, bulliform cells in roots, shoots and leaves, surface structures like papillae, hairs and ornamentation on flower parts, leaves, fruits and seeds. Furthermore, in a phylogenetic framework, we analysed nuclear ribosomal ITS diversity in the same orchid species belonging, and in a combined Bayesian phylogenetic analysis based on anatomical, morphological, micromorphogical and ITS data we confirmed the usefulness of multiple data sets for effectively assessing taxonomically critical orchids. In the combined analysis, all genera were resolved as monophyletic with topologies congruent with recently published more thorough molecular phylogenetic reconstructions, while the trees obtained by seprately analysing the ITS and the anatomical, morphological, micromorphogical data were less resolved and partly inconclusive. 相似文献
