The objective of this study was to characterize the effects of soil burn severity and initial tree composition on long-term forest floor dynamics and ecosystem biomass partitioning within the Picea mariana [Mill.] BSP-feathermoss bioclimatic domain of northwestern Quebec. Changes in forest floor organic matter and ecosystem biomass partitioning were evaluated along a 2,355-year chronosequence of extant stands. Dendroecological and paleoecological methods were used to determine the time since the last fire, the soil burn severity of the last fire (high vs. low severity), and the post-fire tree composition of each stand (P. mariana vs. Pinus banksiana Lamb). In this paper, soil burn severity refers to the thickness of the organic matter layer accumulated above the mineral soil that was not burned by the last fire. In stands originating from high severity fires, the post-fire dominance by Pinus banksiana or P. mariana had little effect on the change in forest floor thickness and tree biomass. In contrast, stands established after low severity fires accumulated during the first century after fire 73% thicker forest floors and produced 50% less tree biomass than stands established after high severity fires. Standing tree biomass increased until approximately 100 years after high severity fires, and then decreased at a logarithmic rate in the millennial absence of fire. Forest floor thickness also showed a rapid initial accumulation rate, and continued to increase in the millennial absence of fire at a much slower rate. However, because forest floor density increased through time, the overall rate of increase in forest floor biomass (58 g m−2 y−1) remained constant for numerous centuries after fire (700 years). Although young stands (< 200 years) have more than 60% of ecosystem biomass locked-up in living biomass, older stands (> 200 years) sequester the majority (> 80%) of it in their forest floor. The results from this study illustrate that, under similar edaphic conditions, a single gradient related to time since disturbance is insufficient to account for the full spectrum of ecosystem biomass dynamics occurring in eastern boreal forests and highlights the importance of considering soil burn severity. Although fire severity induces diverging ecosystem biomass dynamics in the short term, the extended absence of fire brings about a convergence in terms of ecosystem biomass accumulation and partitioning.  相似文献

AIMS: The mechanisms of Salmonella contamination in an oilmeal plant were investigated and the basic data were collected in order to achieve control of Salmonella in oilmeal. METHODS AND RESULTS: Salmonella was detected in all contamination vectors and environmental factors investigated, namely: operators, processing floor, dust in the air and rodents. In particular, high concentrations of Salmonella were detected on the processing floor of the manufacturing area, which has high oil content. Steam was the most effective disinfection method used for the processing floor, as the effects of heat sterilization and disinfection may work in tandem. In addition, restricting the movement of operators of the production chain remarkably reduced Salmonella contamination, even in areas of otherwise high contamination. CONCLUSIONS: Within the oilmeal plant, high Salmonella contamination rates for the processing floor represent the greatest risk of contamination of oilmeal via operators, dust in the air and rodents. Therefore, control of the processing floor is the most important means for reducing the oilmeal contamination rate. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Specific Salmonella control methods for oilmeal plants have been established.  相似文献

To gain a better understanding of the effects of spatial structure on patterns of neighbourhood competition among hardwood trees, the three-dimensional extension of primary branches was surveyed for ten community-grown Castanea crenata (Fagaceae) trees with respect to the positioning of neighbouring branches and the slope of the forest floor. There were significantly more branches extending towards the lower side of the slope than towards the upper side, but structural properties such as branch length and vertical angle were not affected by slope. When horizontal extension of a branch towards its neighbour was compared for a C. crenata branch and a neighbouring heterospecific, the former was significantly narrower than the latter when the inter-branch distance (horizontal distance between the base positions of two neighbouring branches) was short (< approx. 5 m). Castanea crenata branches tended to extend in a direction avoiding neighbouring branches of heterospecifics when the inter-branch distance was short. Furthermore, for an inter-branch distance <3 m, the horizontal extension of a C. crenata branch was less when it was neighbouring a heterospecific branch than when neighbouring a conspecific branch. These results suggest that horizontal extension of C. crenata branches is more prone to spatial invasion by nearby neighbouring branches of heterospecifics, and that the invasion can be lessened when C. crenata trees are spatially aggregated. The reason why such an arrangement occurs is discussed in relation to the later leaf-flush of C. crenata compared with that of other species in the forest.  相似文献

Heterotopic transplantation of brain vesicles between chick and quail were performed, and the correlation between tectum formation and the expression of two PAX family genes, PAX7 and PAX6 , analyzed. Reciprocal transplantation between the prosencephalon and mesencephalon showed that formation of the tectum always coincided with induction/maintenance of PAX7 and suppression of PAX6 , indicating that switch-on or -off of these two PAX family genes in region specific manners are responsible for the differentiation of brain vesicles into the tectum. On the other hand, transplantation of the mesencephalic floor plate into the dorsal mesencephalon suppressed PAX7 expression in the dorsal mesencephalon and changed its fate from the tectum to the tegmentum, indicating that factors in the mesencephalic floor plate suppress PAX7 and limit tectum territory to the dorsal part of the mesencephalon.  相似文献

Declines in amphibian populations and the loss of some species has spurred research into the causes of declines. Little research has been done on what the loss of amphibian species may mean to ecosystem function. I describe a field experiment where the number of Plethodon cinereus (the red-backed salamander) was manipulated in enclosures buried in the forest floor. I determined the composition of the forest floor invertebrate community and the rate of decomposition of leaf litter in enclosures with and without salamanders over 4.5 months. Salamander predation in enclosures significantly reduced invertebrate numbers compared to control enclosures. Salamander predation also indirectly reduced rate of decomposition by between 11 and 17%. This was probably due to salamanders consuming a significant number of leaf fragmenters (e.g. Coleoptera and Diptera larvae). Predation on leaf litter fragmenters may alter carbon dynamics in forested ecosystems.  相似文献

The distribution and colocalization of neuropeptides and 5-hydroxytryptamine in the posterior portion of the large intestine of the toad was studied using single- and dual-label immunohistochemistry. Neurons containing colocalized galanin/somatostatin or vasoactive intestinal peptide alone were observed along intramural pelvic nerves. Some of the galanin/somatostatin neurons also contained 5-hydroxytryptamine. Synaptic boutons containing colocalized calcitonin gene-related peptide/vasoactive intestinal peptide were associated with the galanin/somatostatin neurons. The muscle of the large intestine was also innervated by axons containing galamin/somatostatin, vasoactive intestinal peptide/calcitonin gene-related peptide or vasoactive intestinal peptide alone. Nerve fibres containing calcitonin gene-related peptide/substance P, probably representing primary afferent nerves, were also associated with muscle bundles. Submucosal blood vessels carried dense plexuses of fibres containing vasoactive intestinal peptide alone or and calcitonin gene-related peptide/substance P. Adrenergic perivascular nerves also contained galanin and neuropeptide Y.  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨髋部肌锻炼联合盆底电刺激生物反馈对盆底功能障碍性疾病(PFD)患者盆底功能及应激反应的影响。方法:选取2021年1月-2022年12月在我院接受治疗的120例PFD患者作为研究对象,按随机数字表法分为对照组和观察组,每组各60例。对照组患者进行髋部肌锻炼,观察组患者在对照组的基础上联合盆底电刺激生物反馈治疗,观察分析两组患者盆底功能以及应激反应的变化。结果:两组治疗后观察组临床总有效率显著高于对照组(P<0.05);两组患者治疗后PFDI-20、PISQ-12及PFIQ-7评分显著优于治疗前,且观察组上述指标明显优于对照组(P<0.05);治疗后两组患者前盆底肌电位、动态肌张力、静态肌张力及收缩力较治疗前显著改善,且观察组相较于对照组上述指标显著提升(P<0.05);治疗后两组患者去甲肾上腺素(NE)、前列腺素(PGE2)、皮质醇(COR)水平明显提高,且观察组明显优于对照组(P<0.05)。结论:髋部肌锻炼联合盆底电刺激生物反馈使肌肉功能得到锻炼,提高了盆底肌张力水平,促进盆底功能的恢复和应激反应的提高,明显提高患者的生活质量。  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨实时三维盆底超声对产后压力性尿失禁(SUI)患者疗效评估作用及与尿动力学的相关性。方法:选择2020年4月至2022年12月石家庄市人民医院收治的139例产后SUI患者,均接受盆底生物反馈电刺激联合盆底肌锻炼治疗。治疗前后分别进行实时三维盆底超声检查和尿动力学检查。比较治疗前后实时三维盆底超声参数、尿动力学指标差异。Pearson法分析实时三维盆底超声参数与尿动力学指标的相关性。结果:实时三维盆底超声图像特征显示:治疗前盆膈裂孔内的结构疏松,回声变弱,盆腔器官结缔组织疏松,间隙增宽,盆膈裂孔面积、尿道旋转角、膀胱尿道后角以及膀胱颈移动度较大;治疗后盆膈裂孔两侧耻骨直肠肌对称,耻骨内脏肌呈带状高回声,盆膈裂孔面积、尿道旋转角、膀胱尿道后角以及膀胱颈移动度较治疗前降低。产后SUI患者治疗后静息状态和Valsalva状态下盆膈裂孔面积、尿道旋转角、膀胱尿道后角、膀胱颈移动度均较治疗前降低(P<0.05),腹压漏尿点压、最大逼尿肌压力均较治疗前增加(P<0.05)。产后SUI患者静息状态和Valsalva状态下盆膈裂孔面积、尿道旋转角、膀胱尿道后角、膀胱颈移动度与最大逼尿肌压力、腹压漏尿点压呈负相关(P<0.05),与最大膀胱容量和残余尿量无关(P>0.05)。结论:产后SUI患者经盆底生物反馈电刺激联合盆底肌锻炼治疗后实时三维盆底超声参数较治疗前降低,与尿动力学改善有关。临床可通过实时三维盆底超声检查,对产后SUI患者进行临床疗效评价,以指导临床治疗。  相似文献

The incorporation of sulfur from inorganic sulfate into organic matter was examined using35S for O1, O2 and A-horizon samples from two hardwood forests located at the Coweeta hydrologic laboratory, near Franklin, NC. This temperature-dependent transformation was stimulated by increased availability of sulfate or energy and the process was inhibited by sodium azide, erythromycin and candicidin. These data suggest that bacteria and fungi mediate sulfur incorporation via the formation of the covalent linkages. The latter possibility was confirmed by characterization of the organic sulfur fraction after isolation and partial purification from O2 layer material. Evidence is presented which indicates that the sulfur of this fraction is subject to mineralization after depolymerization of the carbon matrix and methods are given for the direct and indirect assessment of potential turnover rates. The availability of sulfate from mineralization appears to depend upon the rate of incorporation of sulfur into organic matter. Thus, substantially higher levels of extractable sulfate were detected when turnover of the isolated organosulfur fraction was assayed for in the presence of azide, an inhibitor of sulfate incoporation. The consequences of fire recurrence (1, 2 and 3 fires in 16 years) on plant and soil C, N, P and K from Quercus coccifera garrigues were analysed in the Valencia Region (E Spain). Plant and forest floor (L horizon) nutrient concentrations either changed weakly or showed no change with fire recurrence. At the soil surface (0-2.5 cm), soil potential mineralisable nitrogen increased and available P decreased after an initial increase, whereas exchangeable K was not affected by successive fires. However, the significance of those observed trends for N and P was site-dependent. Despite the rapid formation of the L soil horizon, fire recurrence did not permit the development of the whole forest floor profile observed in the unburned garrigues. These organic layers contained a great proportion of the total nutrient pool, especially for N. Forest-floor and aboveground plant combustion by fire may produce significant losses of N and P compared with those available in mineral soil, whereas soil exchangeable K is large enough to replace these losses. Belowground nutrient reserves may account for the quick recovery of the Quercus coccifera aboveground biomass although successive fires could deplete these reserves and produce a loss of biomass and productivity in this species.  相似文献
