The goal of this work is to create a tool that allows users to easily distribute large scientific computations on computational grids. Our tool MW relies on the simple master–worker paradigm. MW provides both a top Level interface to application software and a bottom Level interface to existing Grid computing toolkits. Both interfaces are briefly described. We conclude with a case study, where the necessary Grid services are provided by the Condor high-throughput computing system, and the MW-enabled application code is used to solve a combinatorial optimization problem of unprecedented complexity. 相似文献

With the number of electromagnetic field sources in human environments increasing, it appears appropriate to discuss the future levels of radio frequency (RF) exposure. However, general quantitative assessment is impeded by a fundamental lack of current data. Nevertheless, major technological trends and innovation paths are presented and evaluated with respect to their effect on exposure levels. The most relevant wireless standards and their RF characteristics are briefly introduced. The factors influencing RF exposure are treated in a systematic fashion. A simple exposure-oriented classification of present and future RF sources is introduced to facilitate a structured discussion. Synopsis The living coelacanth is a livebearer. Yolk seems to be the main source of nutrients and of oxygen to the embryo (fetus). Long before birth, young may also possibly feed orally on histotrophe secretion and egg debris. This type of reproduction evolved, as in most other fishes, from oviparity. The Carboniferous coelacanth Rhabdoderma exiguum had eggs of much lesser yolk volume and may represent an earlier form of oviparity with hiding, guarding or brooding type of parental care. The Jurassic coelacanth Holophagus (Undina) and the Cretaceous Axelrodichthys appear to have already evolved the internal-bearing style. Much of this evolutionary sequence is similar to that in cichlids. Ancestral cichlids are substrate tenders and nesters, with small eggs, little yolk and a feeding larva with indirect development. Mouthbrooding cichlids evolved a few, large eggs with denser yolk, direct development and, ultimately, orally feeding embryos while yolk is still in ample supply. Mixed feeding from yolk and orally ingested food in cichlids and in coelacanths is shown to be an enhanced mode of food delivery to the embryos over that from each source separately, in order to produce directly a better developed or larger young at the time of release, i.e. independence. Increase in egg size is regarded as an environmentally induced, altered pattern of yolk synthesis and an initial component of the epigenetic mechanism leading towards greater specialization. We have devised a method for the parallel determination of choline acetyltransferase (CAT) and muscarinic cholinergic receptor (mCh-R) in the same brain tissue. The method for CAT activity determination is more rapid, simplified, stable, and economical than the usual Fonnum's method. With our method, age-associated changes in CAT activity and mCh-R levels were examined. Although CAT activity hardly changed with age except in a few areas, mCh-R binding of aged-rats was markedly reduced in all areas. These results suggest that the change in mCh-R represents an age-associated biochemical change in the brain and that determination of CAT activity is not sufficient for the study of age-associated changes in the brain cholinergic system. 相似文献

A DNA-based method for calculating the product of Boolean matrices or matrices containing positive, real numbers is presented.
In the case of matrices containing real numbers, the manipulation of reaction conditions allows a quantitative calculation
to be performed. The use of DNA to perform an analog calculation illustrates a new approach to computing with DNA.
