A new design of the observation window to observation chamber seal is described for the Berger rapid stopped-flow apparatus. This design permits reliable operation of the apparatus and retains the features of a square non-deviating observation path with flush windows. Incorporation of fiber optic light guides for the observation path has made the apparatus insensitive to vibration artifacts. A demonstration reaction of calcium binding to EGTA is presented; the reaction, which is 90% complete complete within 2 ms, illustrates the capability of this apparatus for examining fast reactions. 相似文献

Summary Nonlinear sampling along the constant-time dimension is applied to the constant-time HNCO spectrum of the dimerization domain of Ga14. Nonlinear sampling was used for the nitrogen dimension, while the carbon and proton dimensions were sampled linearly. A conventional ct-HNCO spectrum is compared with a nonlinearly sampled spectrum, where the gain in experiment time obtained from nonlinear sampling is used to increase the resolution in the carbonyl dimension. Nonlinearly sampled data are processed by maximum entropy reconstruction. It is shown that the nonlinearly sampled spectrum has a higher resolution, although it was recorded in less time. The constant intensity of the signal in the constant-time dimension allows for a variety of sampling schedules. A schedule of randomly distributed sampling points yields the best results. This general method can be used to significantly increase the quality of heteronuclear constant-time spectra. 相似文献

Reef-building corals throughout the world are considered endangered. The evidence is a decline in coral health and reduced coral cover. Competing hypotheses for the cause of coral loss include removal of grazers, nutrient enrichment, disease, coral bleaching, increase in temperature, and excess light/ultraviolet exposure. We suggest that light limitation as a second order effect of anthropogenic activity (e.g. sediment resuspension and nutrient enrichment) is a valid and tractable hypothesis. This experimental field and laboratory study demonstrates that corals of the Florida reefs are functioning close to the compensation point where respiration (of coral polyp plus zooxanthellae) consumes the products of photosynthesis of the zooxanthellae, with little if any remaining for growth. We extend this work into an optical nomograph that is useful for predicting coral loss and recovery. The nomograph is designed to elucidate compensation depth for waters of various transparencies. 相似文献

Wavefront-shaping (WS) enables imaging through scattering tissues like bone, which is important for neuroscience and bone-regeneration research. WS corrects for the optical aberrations at a given depth and field-of-view (FOV) within the sample; the extent of the validity of which is limited to a region known as the isoplanatic patch (IP). Knowing this parameter helps to estimate the number of corrections needed for WS imaging over a given FOV. In this paper, we first present direct transmissive measurement of murine skull IP using digital optical phase conjugation based focusing. Second, we extend our previously reported phase accumulation ray tracing (PART) method to provide in-situ in-silico estimation of IP, called correlative PART (cPART). Our results show an IP range of 1 to 3 μm for mice within an age range of 8 to 14 days old and 1.00 ± 0.25 μm in a 12-week old adult skull. Consistency between the two measurement approaches indicates that cPART can be used to approximate the IP before a WS experiment, which can be used to calculate the number of corrections required within a given field of view. 相似文献

An epidemiological model with both a time delay in the removed class and a nonlinear incidence rate is analysed to determine the equilibria and their stability. This model is for diseases where individuals are first susceptible, then infected, then removed with temporary immunity and then susceptible again when they lose their immunity.
