1985、1995年和1998年4-5月,采用查阅保护区历史资料及实地调查方法,对辽宁双台河口国家级自然保护区内丹顶鹤(Grus japonensis)的主要营巢地-东郭苇场和赵圈河苇场的生境破碎化及丹顶鹤在2片苇场中的营巢状况和繁殖种群数量变动情况作了系统的考察和研究,发现丹顶鹤的营巢生境破碎严重,已由成片的芦苇湿地变成91个斑块,其中最小营巢斑块面积为0.37km^2,最小巢间距为304m,比过去资料记载的最小巢区面积缩小了0.72km^2,但繁殖种群数量变动不大,多年来一直维持在30对左右,丹顶鹤为了适应变化了的环境,已采取了缩小巢区面积的生态适应对策。 相似文献

ABSTRACT Incubating birds can incur high energetic costs and, when faced with a trade‐off between incubation and foraging, parents may neglect their eggs in favor of their own somatic needs. Extended incubation recesses are an example of neglect, but they are often treated as outliers and largely overlooked in studies of incubation behavior. We studied incubation rhythms of Horned Larks (Eremophila alpestris) on Hudson Bay Mountain, British Columbia, Canada, during four breeding seasons. Incubation recesses averaged 10.92 ± 0.38 min (N= 4076 2‐h periods), but we observed 70 extended recesses, ranging from 59 to 387 min in duration, at 35 nests. Although rare (<1% of all daytime recesses), extended recesses occurred in all 4 yr, were longer and more frequent in colder years (60% occurred in the two coldest years), and often occurred during inclement weather (39% occurred during three storm events). Extended recesses did not appear to compensate for long attendance periods because extended recess duration was not correlated with the duration of previous on‐bouts (P= 0.10, N= 70) or the mean on‐bout duration of the previous 2‐h period (P= 0.36, N= 70). Rather, extended recesses seemed to reflect a shift in parental investment away from their eggs and toward self‐maintenance when faced with energetically stressful conditions. Extended recesses may have reduced embryo viability; egg‐hatching rates were 91 ± 2.4% for nests where females did not take extended recesses and 81 ± 4.2% for nests where females did take extended recesses (P= 0.02, N= 56 nests). Extended recesses during incubation are rare events, but they may represent an important mechanism that allows birds to breed successfully in energetically challenging conditions. 相似文献

The hypothesis is suggested that resource depression is one important factor behind the observed regular nest spacing of many birds of prey. It predicts that the proportion of evasive prey in the predator's diet should be reflected in the degree of regularity in its nest spacing. The idea is tested on data from 24 raptorial bird populations of 19 species. The proportion of supposed evasive prey (birds and large mammals) in the diet was positively correlated with the degree of regularity in spacing of the nests, considering all populations or species. No such significant correlation was found for the six highly territorial species, whereas the correlation was highly significant for the other 13 species. European rollers (Coracias garrulus) were almost extinct from large parts of Hungary in the 1970–1980s. However up till now their population size increased considerably, mainly due to a nature conservation campaign, supplying artificial nest-boxes for breeding. We studied which factors affected rollers’ occurrences at the landscape scale in southern Hungary, under natural circumstances and when artificial nest-boxes were supplied. We analyzed the composition and the configuration of the landscape at two spatial scales. We found that beside the presence of natural grasslands, heterogeneous landscape provided high quality breeding and hunting sites favorable for rollers. Even though habitat characteristics of roller territories with natural holes or nest-boxes were similar, breeding sites without artificial nest-boxes harbored higher coverage of forests and heterogeneous agricultural areas. Sites with occupied and unoccupied nest-boxes considerably overlapped, suggesting that the available habitats were not saturated. Nest-box supplementation proved to be an effective tool for rollers’ conservation in areas where natural nesting sites were limited, but prey resources were available. Consequently, the preservation of landscape heterogeneity is a key factor which should be taken into consideration in the conservation management of roller populations. 相似文献

Atta bisphaerica is a species of grass-cutting ants commonly found in the Cerrado biome. The Brazilian Cerrado (savanna) biome covers 2 million km representing 23% of the area of the country. It is an ancient biome with rich biodiversity, estimated at 160,000 species of plants, fungi and animals. However, little is known about their nest architecture development. This study investigated the architecture of fourteen A. bisphaerica nests from Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil. Molds were made of the nests by filling them with cement to allow better visualization of internal structures such as chambers and tunnels. After excavation, the depth and dimensions (length, width, and height) of the chambers were measured. As expected, there was a lateral development in the nests and increase in the number of chambers over time. Results showed that in nests with an estimated age of 14 months, the average depth was 1.6 ± 0.4 m; for those with 18 months it was 2.2 ± 0.7 m and at 28 months it was 2.5 ± 0.7 m. The number of chambers varied from 4 to 7 in 28-month nests, 2 to 4 in 18-month nests, and from 2 to 3 in 14-month nests. With respect to the dimensions of the internal tunnels, there were variations in their average width, increasing with time. The fungus chambers were located beneath the largest mound of loose soil. This study contributes to a better understanding of the so far unknown nest architecture development of A. bisphaerica grass-cutting ants. 相似文献
