Summary Characterization of sequences homologous to theDrosophila melanogaster gypsy transposable element was carried out inDrosophila subobscura (gypsyDS). They were found to be widely distributed among natural populations of this species. From Southern blot and in situ analyses, these sequences appear to be mobile in this species.GypsyDS sequences are located in both euchromatic and heterochromatic regions. A completegypsyDS sequence was isolated from aD. subobscura genomic library, and a 1.3-kb fragment which aligns with the ORF2 of theD. melanogaster gypsy element was sequenced. Comparisons of this sequence in three species (D. subobscura, D. melanogaster, and D. virilis) indicate that there is greater similarity between theD. subobscura-D. virilis sequences than betweenD. subobscura andD. melanogaster. Molecular divergence ofgypsy sequences betweenD. virilis andD. subobscura is estimated at 16 MY, whereas the most likely divergence time of these two species is more than 60 MY. Summary Haustoria ofTriphysaria pusilla andT. versicolor subsp.faucibarbata from a natural habitat were analysed by light and electron microscopy. The keel-shaped edge of the secondary haustorium generally splits the epidermis and cortex of the host root parallel to the root axis, and penetrates to the host vascular tissue. Anticlinally elongated epidermal cells of the haustorium constitute most of the host/parasite interface. Some of these epidermal cells are divided by oblique cell walls. Some of their oblique daughter cells as well as some undivided epidermal cells differentiate into xylem elements. Single epidermal cells occasionally intrude into the vascular tissue of the host and individual host cells can be invaded. The surface area of the plasmalemma in parasitic parenchymatous interface cells is increased by the differentiation of wall labyrinths characteristic of transfer cells and by the development of membrane-lined cytoplasmic tubules or flattened sacs which become embedded in the partly lignified interface cell-wall. Mycorrhizal fungal hyphae enter the xylem bridge in some haustoria. Implications of these observations for the function of the haustorium are discussed. 相似文献

Peanut (Arachis) is a key oil and protein crop worldwide with large genome. The genomes of diploid and tetraploid peanuts have been sequenced, which were compared to decipher their genome structures, evolutionary, and life secrets. Genome sequencing efforts showed that different cultivars, although Bt homeologs being more privileged in gene retention and gene expression. This subgenome bias, extended to sequence variation and point mutation, might be related to the long terminal repeat (LTR) explosions after tetraploidization, especially in At subgenomes. Except that, whole-genome sequences revealed many important genes, for example, fatty acids and triacylglycerols pathway, NBS-LRR (nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeats), and seed size decision genes, were enriched after recursive polyploidization. Each ancestral polyploidy, with old ones having occurred hundreds of thousand years ago, has thousands of duplicated genes in extant genomes, contributing to genetic novelty. Notably, although full genome sequences are available, the actual At subgenome ancestor has still been elusive, highlighted with new debate about peanut origin. Although being an orphan crop lagging behind other crops in genomic resources, the genome sequencing achievement has laid a solid foundation for advancing crop enhancement and system biology research of peanut. 相似文献

The effect ofcis-DDP treatment with and without selenite and selenocistamine was studied on kidneys of tumor-bearing mice. The amounts ofcis-DDP, selenite, and selenocistamine injected were chosen so as to be compatible with the treatment of humans. The animals
were sacrificed at 7, 14, and 28 d after treatment. The kidneys were removed and subjected to trace element analysis by a
novel X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method and for pathological assessment. The results show that following treatment withcis-DDP, K, Fe, Cu, and Zn reach a maximum level after 7 d; K, Fe, and Cu levels were significantly reduced by the addition of
selenite. The level of Zn was reduced only in groups treated with selenite whereas that of K and Cu was reduced also in groups
treated with selenocistamine with and withoutcis-DDP. The greatest increase in Pt and Se levels was reached 1 wk after injection withcis-DDP, with and without selenocompounds, and in the case of Pt was partly reduced by addition of selenite. Se returned to control
values 2 wk after injection, although Pt was still high in all groups 2 and 4 wk after injection. The results corroborate
the findings of our previous studies. The effect of selenocistamine incis-DDP treated mice was partly insufficient. The pathological examination of the kidneys did not show any differences in the

We have identified a family of small repeated sequences (from 60 to 66 bp in length) in the mitochondrial genome of rice (Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare). There are at least ten copies of these sequences and they are distributed throughout the mitochondrial genome. Each is potentially capable of forming a stem-and-loop structure and we have designated them PRSs (palindromic repeated sequences). Their features are reminiscent of the small dispersed repeats in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of some lower eukaryotes, such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Neurospora crassa and Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Some of the PRSs of rice mtDNA are located in the intron of the gene for ribosomal protein S3 (rps3) and in the flanking sequence of the gene for chloroplast-like tRNAAsn (trnN). An analysis of PCR-amplified fragments of these regions from the DNA of some Gramineae suggests that the PRSs were inserted into these regions of the Oryza mtDNA after the divergence of Oryza from the other Gramineae. 相似文献

Trichophyton rubrum is a pathogenic fungus infecting human skin, hairs and nails. These substrates are colonized only by very few fungal species. In this review, we summarise the nutritional requirements of fungal species, with a focus on T. rubrum, and compare them with nutrients available in the keratinized tissues. The outer layers of the human skin are low in most nutrients required for fungal growth, the basis of nutritional immunity. Carbohydrate availability is low and protein, in the form of keratin, is used for energy and carbon by the fungus. In addition to the nitrogen derived from keratin, the skin is rich in phosphorus, sulfur, potassium and chloride. The concentration of trace elements is very low, especially in the outermost layer of the skin, and magnesium, iron and zinc are likely the most relevant limiting elements for T. rubrum. We point to the evolutionary adaption of the fungus to the human skin. T. rubrum has a sophisticated system for the digestion and utilization of extracellular protein and a relative low demand for micronutrients. 相似文献
