Summary Pattern of population growth and characteristics of habitat utilization and of migration by two species of spider mites were studied under experimental conditions. The population growth ofOligonychus ununguis (Jacobi) on a chestnut occurred only on a single mite-release leaf over a long period, and few individuals moved away. Most of the 2nd progeny generation females of this species emigrated from the mite-release leaf as well as the sapling by means of ballooning threads. During this growth period, population density on the mite-release leaf levelled off, whereas that on the sapling increased. In contrast, the foundress ofPanonychus citri (McGregor) on citrus actively moved over several neighbouring leaves, and until the 2nd progeny generation females emerged, individuals were distributed over all the sapling leaves by means of walking. Emigration from the sapling was not observed until the 2nd progeny females emerged, and after that the mites emigrated by means of ballooning threads. The population density ofP. citri on the sapling levelled off and was rather decreased on the mite-release leaf at the time of mite emigration. Comparing the changing pattern of the relative degree of aggregation (m */m) measured in two different units between these two species, the pattern ofm */m in 1 cm2 on the mite release leaf inO. ununguis resembled that of the unit of leaves on the sapling inP. citri. This result as well as behavioural observations indicate that migration ofO. ununguis is the movement from leaf to leaf and that ofP. citri from sapling to sapling. It is, therefore, concluded that the boundary of the microhabitat is a single leaf forO. ununguis but sapling or foliage forP. citri. This work was presented in Annual Meeting of Jap. Soc. Appl. Ent. A sight-count method for evaluation of predation by spiders on the green rice leafhopper, Nephotettix cincticeps was proposed and its applicability was tested under natural conditions. The number (n) of leafhoppers preyed on by spiders per rice hill per day was estimated by the formula: (1) where F is the frequency of predation observed per hill:P is given by dividing the time spent feeding on prey by 24 hours; and C refers to the total amount of feeding activity expressed in terms of the activity during the standard time interval. The total number (N) of prey attacked during the specified period can be given as follows: (2) With this method, the role of paddy-inhabiting spiders, Lycosa pseudoannulata, Oedothorax insecticeps, Tetragnatha spp, and Enoplognatha japonica, as predator of N. cincticeps was evaluated with reference to life tables of the prey. The advantages and limitation of the sight-count method were discussed as compared with other methods so far proposed.  相似文献

This is the second paper dealing with techniques necessary to the population estimation of the Cryptomeria red mite feeding on a coniferous Cryptomeria tree, with the final object of determining the absolute population. Results are as follows:
  1. The population can be defined as the whole of mites existing on branches with foliage younger than two years old, because more than 95% of individuals are always there.
  2. Optimal sampling unit varies according to mite population. Unless a fixed unit is necessary, seasonal placement of units is recommended.
  3. Since significant variance is associated with crown levels, representative sampling from each level is designed. These calculation should be based on the data transformed to logarithms, as the relation between mean and variance suggests that the population data are of contagious distribution.
  4. A trial to calculate the total length of branches for each age, which is needed for the conversion to absolute population, is described.

本文报道了大连地区人体正常皮肤蠕形螨的生态分布。共检查551人,阳性153人,定居率为27.8%,检出毛囊螨和皮脂螨共两种。用透明胶带定量计数检查法,研究蠕形螨在面部的分布,结果表明蠕形螨主要分布于颏、鼻、颊和额部位。对10例阳性者,在面部检出毛囊螨和皮脂螨共85只,其中颏31、鼻26、颊17、额11只螨,总定居度为每条胶带(6cm~2)2.1只螨,定居度以颏部位为最高,鼻、颊、额次之。  相似文献

The dominance of the Pyroglyphidae in house dust has been influenced by a number of factors. The humidity in houses dropped recently to such an extent that only Pyroglyphidae can survive. When temperature and relative humidity are favorable for Acarus siro and Glycyphagus destructor as well as Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Dermatophagoides diminished in numbers by competition. Introduction of the predator Cheyletus eruditus into this mixed breeds causes the extermination of Dermatophagoides. The vacuum cleaner trapped mites, but Dermatophagoides was protected by its habit to hide in cracks and crevices. The use of insecticides has a more killing effect on Acarus and Glycyphagus than on Dermatophagoides.  相似文献

In mites, vitellogenin synthesis, regulation and uptake by the oocytes as vitellin remain practically unknown. Although a partial sequence of the gene is now available, no previous studies have been conducted that describe the native vitellin protein in mites. The objective of this study was to characterize vitellin in the twospotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae. The native twospotted spider mite vitellin migrated as a single major band with a molecular weight of 476 ± 14.5 kDa as compared to 590 ± 25.5 kDa for vitellin from the American dog tick, Dermacentor variabilis. However, isoelectric focusing analysis of native spider mite vitellin showed five bands with pI values slightly acidic to neutral (pH 5.8, 6.2, 6.7, 7.0 and 7.2), as is the case for insect and tick vitellins. Reducing conditions (SDS-PAGE) also revealed multiple subunits ranging from 290.9 to 3.6 kDa and was similar to that found in D. variabilis. Spider mite vitellin weakly bound lipids and carbohydrates compared to the tick. Unlike D. variabilis, the spider mite egg yolk protein does not bind heme. The significance of non-heme binding in mites is discussed.  相似文献

Stored product mites are pests of serious economic and medical importance. Recently, it has been shown that the biological control of these pests based on the use of natural compounds and predators had a high potential for success. In this study, we investigated the suppression of three pest mites by combination of the predator Cheyletus malaccensis Oudemans, 1913 and bean flour (Phaseolus vulgaris), which is an antifeedant. Wheat grain (100 g) was contaminated with 100 individuals (Acarus siro (Linnaeus, 1758), Aleuroglyphus ovatus (Troupeau, 1878) or Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank, 1781)). We added bean flour in concentrations of 0, 1, 5 and 10 g kg−1 (wt/wt) and/or the predator with initial predator/prey ratios 0, 1/50, 1/25 and 1/10. The experiment was carried out under abiotic conditions that are optimal for pest development. After 21 days, pest and predators numbers were recorded. Application of flour significantly reduced populations of A. siro, slightly reduced populations of T. putrescentiae, the efficiency increased with increasing concentration. A. ovatus was not affect by bean flour. Populations of all mite species were successfully reduced by the sole addition of C. malaccensis, with a higher efficiency at higher Cheyletus ratios. The additive effect of the predator and flour was mainly apparent in the reduction of T. putrescientae. The population of C. malaccensis was not affected by the presence of bean flour. It is therefore recommended to use bean flour for the reduction of A. siro, a combination of bean flour and Cheyletus for the reduction of T. putrescientae, and only Cheyletus for the reduction of A. ovatus.
