Field and greenhouse experiments showed that yield losses of sugarbeet, Beta vulgaris, did not occur in soil infested with fewer than eight Heterodera schachtii eggs/g soil. However, larger population densities greatly reduced sugarbeet yield. In the field experiment, the yield in microplots inoculated with more than 64 eggs/g soil was less than 20% of yields in uninoculated microplots. Nevertheless, tolerance limits of 4 and 1.8 eggs/g soil, in greenhouse and field microplots, respectively, were derived by fitting the data with the equation y =m + (l - m)zP-T. Maximum rates of multiplication of 55 and more than 300, and equilibrium densities of 340 and 130 eggs/g soil, were estimated in greenhouse and field microplot tests, respectively.  相似文献

Growth of alfalfa (Medicago sativa cv. Vernal) seedlings was compared after inoculation with combinations of either Pratylenchus penetrans and Fusarium soloni or P. penetrans and F. oxysporum f. sp. medicaginis. A synergistic disease interaction occurred in alfalfa when F. oxysporum and P. penetrans were added simultaneously to the soil. Alfalfa growth was suppressed at all inoculum levels of P. penetrans and F. oxysporum, but not with F. solani. Seedlings inoculated with the nematode alone gave lower yields than when inoculated with either Fusarium species alone. Fusarium oxysporum, but not F. solani, was pathogenic to alfalfa under similar experimental conditions. Fusarium oxysporum did not alter the populations of P. penetrans in alfalfa roots, whereas the presence of F. solani was associated with a diminished number of P. penetrans in the roots.  相似文献

Damage and reproductive potentials of Pratylenchus brachyurus and P. penetrans on soybean, Glycine max, cvs. Essex, Forrest, and Lee 68, were determined in microplot tests. Cultivar Essex was generally tolerant to P. brachyurus. Yield of Forrest was suppressed linearly with increasing Pi''s in the sandy soil (r = -0.92) and loamy sand soil (r = -0.99). Low to moderate Pi''s in the sandy clay loam gave an increase in yields as compared to plants without nematodes. Yield was not affected by this nematode in muck. Lee 68 was very sensitive to P. penetrans in microplots. Yield vs. Pi was fitted by a quadratic model (r = 0.82) with yield decreasing sharply as Pi''s were increased. The reproduction of both species decreased with increases in Pi. Lee 68 was a good host for P. penetrans, whereas Essex and Forrest were fair to poor hosts for P. brachyurus.  相似文献

Dark grown leaves of wheat were irradiated with red light of different intensities, at a temperature close to 0°C. The rate of photoreduction of the protochlorophyllide 650-form into chlorophyllide 684-form was measured. On continued irradiation the chlorophyllide 684-form was photodecomposed. By comparing the rates of the two processes the quantum yield for photooxidation of the chlorophyllide 684-form was calculated. The quantum yield was 2°10-5 at an intensity of 2200 W m-2, and increased with decreasing light intensity to 3.2°10-5 at an intensity of 170 W m-2.  相似文献

Summary The effect of heating on the properties of Apomu (Psammentic Usthorthent), Egbeda (Oxic Paleustalf) and Gambari (Typic Plinthustalf) surface soils were studied under laboratory conditions. Heating at low temperatures (100°C) have no detrimental effects on soil properties, on the contrary it increased the soil extractable P, Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn levels. Pronounced reductions in total N, Org. C, Org. P and extractable Ca and Mg levels and marked increases in extractable P, Zn, Mn and Fe were observed by heating to 200°C. Heating to 500° had an adverse effect on soil chemical and physical properties.Plant height and dry matter yeild of rice plants were higher when grown on Egbeda soil previously heated to 100°C. With addition of N, P and K there was no observed beneficial effect of the heating treatment. Rice plants grown on Egbeda soil previously heated to 200°C showed high uptake of Mn. Plants grew badly in soil previously heated to 500°C.  相似文献

The molar growth yield (Y m) of Bacteroides amylophilus strain WP91 on maltose was 68±2 g/mol when determined from batch cultures at the peaks of maximal growth. Continued incubation led to considerable cell lysis. When calculated from batch cultures in exponential phase (specific growth rate, =0.57 h-1) Y m was 101 g/mol. The maximum value of Y m in maltose-limited chemostat cultures at the maximum dilution rate (D) attainable (D==0.39 h-1) was about 79 g/mol. Ammonia-Fmited chemostat cultures metabolized maltose with a much reduced efficiency and this was associated with a difference in morphology and chemical composition of the cells. The theoretical maximum molar growth yields (Y m max ) were 55 and 114 g/mol for ammonia- and maltose-limited growth respectively. However, if account was taken of extracellular nitrogen-containing material in ammonia-limited cultures, Y m max became 60. The maintenance coefficient (m s), estimated from the lines relating the specific rate of maltose consumption (q m) and D (where m s=q m at D=0), was 7.4±0.6×10-4 mol maltose/g x h for both nutrient limitations. A difference in maintenance energy demand, independent of growth-rate, could not account, therefore, for the observed differences in Y m between ammonia- and maltose-limited growth.  相似文献

Methanosarcina barkeri (strain MS) grew and converted acetate to CO2 and methane after an adaption period of 20 days. Growth and metabolism were rapid with gas production being comparable to that of cells grown on H2 and CO2. After an intermediary growth cycle under a H2 and CO2 atmosphere acetateadapted cells were capable of growth on acetate with formation of methane and CO2. Paracoccus denitrificans was grown aerobically during two-(carbon)substrate-limitation on mannitol and methanol in chemostat cultures. Theoretical growth parameters were calculated based on the presence of 2 or 3 sites in the electron-transport chain of Paracoccus denitrificans. Experimental growth parameters determined during two-(carbon)substrate growth were conform to the presence of 3 sites of oxidative phosphorylation, while cells grown only on mannitol possessed 2 sites. The maximum growth yield on adenosine triphosphate (ATP), corrected for maintenance requirements, determined in chemostat experiments in which the methanol concentration is less than 2.11 times the mannitol concentration was 8.6 g of biomass. When the methanol concentration was more than 2.11 times the mannitol concentration the maximum growth yield on adenosine triphosphate decreased due to the more energy consuming process of CO2-assimilation. Cells use methanol only as energy source to increase the amount of mannitol used for assimilation purposes. When the methanol concentration in chemostat experiments was more than 2.11 times the mannitol concentration, all mannitol was used for assimilation and excess energy derived from methanol was used for CO2-assimilation via the ribulose-bisphosphate cycle. The synthesis of ribulosebisphosphate carboxylase was repressed when the methanol concentration in chemostat experiments was less than 2.11 times the mannitol concentration or when Paracoccus denitrificans was grown in batch culture on both methanol and mannitol. When in chemostat experiments the methanol concentration was more than 2.11 times the mannitol concentration ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase activity could be demonstrated and CO2-assimilation will occur. It is proposed that energy produced in excess activates or derepresses the synthesis of the necessary enzymes of the ribulose-bisphosphate cycle in Paracoccus denitrificans. Consequently growth on any substrate will be carbonas well as energy-limited.
