The invasion kinetics ofhobo transposable element in theDrosophila melanogaster genome was studied byin situ hybridization on the polytene chromosomes. Six independent lines ofDrosophila melanogaster flies that had been previously transformed by microinjection of the pHFL1 plasmid containing a completehobo element were followed over 50 generations. We observed thathobo elements were scattered on each of the chromosome arms, with more insertion sites on the 3R arm. The total number of insertion sites remains quite small, between four and six, at generation 52. On the 2R arm, a short inversion appeared once at generation 52. Most of the integration sites reported here were already described for several transposons but some of them appear to be hotspots forhobo elements.  相似文献

Variations in the number of spines on the left and right posterior dorsal and posterior margins of the prosome as well as the length of the prosome of Acartia tonsa from three estuaries, the upper western side of the Chesapeake Bay, Montauk Bay near the eastern end of Long Island Sound and the coast of Peru were determined. The length of the prosome and number of spines in each of the four locations were used as an indication of morphological similarity between the populations.  相似文献

Examination of 111 peacock wrasse [Symphodus tinea (L.)] and 97 brown wrasse ( Labrus merula L.) from the Valencian coast (Spain) yielded 24 metazoan parasite species (11 Digenea, three Cestoda, four Nematoda. one Acanlhocephala, five Crustacea). Eighteen species were from 5. tinea and 17 from L. merula; 11 of the 24 species were common to both hosts. Brillouin's diversity index, was applied to fully censused parasite infracommunities. This is the first time that all the metazoan parasites (internal and external) in any position in the host have been analysed for diversity. High values of prevalence, intensity, and diversity parameters indicate that these labrid fishes support diverse parasite communities. This may be due to their diverse diet, mainly marine invertebrates which are possible intermediate hosts; they also support certain netnatodes and crustaceans which have direct life-cycle.  相似文献

Genetic and physical analyses have demonstrated an intimate interaction or pairing of homologous chromosomes in the nuclei of manyDrosophila cell types. Experiments were performed to determine whether P elements transposing from a given chromosome to its homolog would preferentially insert in the region corresponding to the donor site, perhaps due to such a proximity. AP[lacZ;ry +] element at thecactus locus (35F) on the second chromosome was mobilized and 96 insertions on the homolog were recovered. The distribution of these new insertions was determined by recombination mapping and molecular analysis, and compared with a control set of 93 second-chromosome insertions originating from theX chromosome. A nearly threefold preference was observed for re-insertion in a region of two to three number divisions aroundcactus on the homolog. However, none of these local insertions was actually within 50 kb of the site atcactus corresponding to the starting site. This is in marked contrast to the previously described phenomenon of intrachromosomal local transposition, where the majority of local transpositions are within 10 kb. The data suggest that the mechanisms for intrachromosomal and interchromosomal local transposition are distinct, and are consistent with a model for interchromosomal local transposition involving proximity of homologous chromosomal regions in the nuclei of the germline cells.  相似文献
