Summary Upper Jurassic (Malm δ to ζ1) massive limestones (‘algal-sponge-reefs, sponge-reefs, reef-complexes, reefs, algal-sponge-bioherms, biolithites, Massenkalk, bioherms, Stillwasser-Mudmounds’) were analyzed in the Southern Swabian Alb, the Southern Franconian Alb and in drilling wells in the Molasse basin (Southern Bavaria). This analysis was carried out within the frame of a multidisciplinary DFG-study with the objective of decifering the controls on the development of Upper Jurassic spongiolites, their three-dimensional distribution, their characteristic faunal composition, and the diagenetic trends of the different primary facies. The data base consists of detailed facies mapping in the areas of the Eybtal and the Blautal (1300 samples) as well as comparative studies in the Upper Donautal (Swabian Alb) and the Southern Franconian Alb (400 samples). All together about 500 thin sections were studied. The distribution of the most important components (ooids, intraclasts, peloids, corals, sponges, sponge spicules, cyanobacterial crusts, brachiopods, molluscs, echinoids, bryozoans, serpulids,Terebella, Tubiphytes), and diagenetic features (dolomite, dedolomite, silicification, stylolites, clay flasers, hematite patches) results in a spatial distribution pattern of facies types. The largest part (70 %) of the massive limestones consists of a peloid-lithoclast-ooid sand facies rich in completely or partly micritized ooids. These ooids, especially in beds of the Malm δ to ε, might be the clue to a reinterpretation of the water depth. True biogenic constructions occur (about 30 % of the volume; sponge-algalmudmounds, algal-sponge-boundstones, and brachiopod-algal-sponge-mounds) within and at the margins of this facies and are interpreted as platform sands. The spatial distribution of the buildups in relation to the sand facies was probably controlled by hydrodynamic conditions. In addition, zoned sponge-algal-mounds occur in intraplatform channels and nodular sponge-algal-mudmounds in the marly basin sediments between platform sand areas. Breccias and slumpings in beds older than the Malm ζ have to be reinterpreted. Most of the breccias found originated from the flanks of the sand platforms, reflecting the faunal composition of the algal-sponge-boundstones which stabilized the flanks. Breccias of this composition occur throughout the Malm δ-ζ1 and differ markedly in their composition from the sand facies. The boundary breccia (Malm ε/ζ1) is interpreted as marking a regressive maximum. The increasing growth of buildups, rich in brachiopods in the Malm ζ1, is ascribed to an increase of reef growth at the beginning of a transgression. Detailed facies analyses necessary for the reconstruction of the spatial distribution of different facies types are in progress. Most of the older data on faunal distributions cannot be used for detailed facies analysis because they differentiated only between massive facies and bedded facies. Therefore Upper Jurassic limestones of Southern Germany should be restudied in order to recognize the volumetric importance of sand facies and buildups within massive limestones.  相似文献

To identify appropriate species of ectomycorrhizal fungi for use in the reclamation of saline‐alkaline sites, such as the composite tailings (alkaline, with high sodium, sulfate, and calcium) produced by the Canadian tar sands industry, pure cultures of nine fungal species indigenous to the Canadian boreal forest were grown on media containing different levels of CaCl2, CaSO4, NaCl, or Na2SO4, as well as on medium containing composite tailings (CT) release water, and on media at four different pH levels. Members of the Boletales (Suillus brevipes, Rhizopogon rubescens, and Paxillus involutus) and Amphinema byssoides (Aphyllophorales) were sensitive to alkalinity, and their growth was completely inhibited by CT release water. Laccaria and Hebeloma spp. (Agaricales) as well as Wilcoxina mikolae (Pezizales) were tolerant to alkalinity and survived on the medium containing CT release water. Calcium chloride proved to be the most toxic of the salts tested. Growth of seven isolates of Laccaria bicolor and three isolates of Hebeloma crustuliniforme on media containing CaCl2 and release water showed low intraspecific variation. A combination of fungal species, each with its own beneficial characteristics, is recommended for the inoculation of seedlings to be outplanted onto composite tailings.  相似文献

The distribution pattern and productivity of Maowusu sandland terrestrial ecosystem are greatly affected with the future severe global change, especially global precipitation change. Considering the predicative global precipitation change and the appropriate relevant strategy for the sustainable development of the China dry territory, the authors have investigated the response of water balance to global precipitation change by creating an artificial control of four levels of water supply treating 3 dominant plants in Mauwusu sandland. The results showed that the seasonal changes of water storage and moisture of different sandland layer depths were affected by different water supply treatments and different plants. The water storage of the three plant growing sandlands and the moisture of different sandland layer depths increased as water supply was increased. The moisture of different water supply treatments and plants increased with the increase of sandland layer depth. The water storage and moisture of the same layer depth of Hedysarum mongolicum Turcz. growing sandland were larger than that of Salix psammophila C. Wang et Ch. Y. Yang growing sandland, which were in turn higher than that of Artemisia ordosica Krasch. growing sandland in the same water supply treatment. Water supply significantly affected the seasonal changes of evaporation and transpiration of the three plant growing sandlands. With the increased levels of water supply, viz. 157.5 mm, 315.0 mm, 472.5 mm and 630.0 mm, the total evaporation was 123.66 mm, 258.68 mm, 376.30 mm, 458.57 mm, respectively, and the total transpiration of A. ordosica was 50.80 mm, 68.93 mm, 108.39 mm, 163.36 mm, respectively, and that of S. psammophila , 47.37 mm, 68.17 mm, 93.65 mm, 135.97 mm, respectively, and that of H. mongolicum 46.73 mm, 67.37 mm, 86.07 mm, 109.64 mm, respectively. Evaporation was significantly higher than transpiration in the experiment.  相似文献

Summary Cleopatra’s beach is one of the most famous in Turkey for its distinctive white sand, composed largely of ooids. Legend has it that the Roman leader, Mark Antony, had this sand shipped from Alexandria in Egypt to create a beach for his lower Cleopatra, on Sedir Island in G?kova Bay, SE Aegean Sea. This study examines the reality of this leagend from a comparison of the oolitic sand from Cleopatra’s beach in Turkey with oolitic sand from the coast west of Alexandria in Egypt, the home city of Cleopatra, and only place in the Mediterranea where Holocene ooids occur in abundance. The ooids on Cleopatra’s beach gave a pale browncreamy colour and dull surface texture. Most grains are spherical, with nuclei of terrigenous grains, peloids and bioclasts. The Cleopatra ooids have all the features typical of high-energy, shallow-marine ‘classic” ooids, but they occur in a very low energy bay and shown evidence of being out place there (microborings, discolouration, dull surface). In terms of size, shape, cortex fabric and mineralogy, the Cleopatra ooids show great similarities to those from the northern coast of Egypt, west of Alexandria. The Alexandria ooids examined have a white-cream colour with a high polish, although there are fewer silicate nuclei compared to the Cleopatra ooids. On the basis of textures and microfabrics, the hydrographic conditions at G?kova bay, the relatively small quantity of oolitic sand in this tiny pocket beach and the absence of this type of sand any-where else in Turkey, it is concluded that the oolitic sand was brought to Cleopatra’s beach from somewhere else, and that the northern Egyptian coast was the most likely source. This lends credence to the Antony and Cleopatra story. Calculations suggest that some 15 Roman corn barges would have been required to transport the quantity of sand now present on the beach in Turkey.  相似文献

Oil sands are a major source of oil, but their industrial processing generates tailings ponds that are an environmental hazard. The main concerns are mature fine tailings (MFT) composed of residual hydrocarbons, water, and fine clay. Tailings ponds include toxic contaminants such as heavy metals, and toxic organics including naphthenics. Naphthenic acids and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degrade very slowly and pose a long-term threat to surface and groundwater, as they can be transported in the MFT. Research into improved technologies that would enable densification and settling of the suspended particles is ongoing. In batch tests, BioTiger?, a microbial consortium that can metabolize PAHs, demonstrated improved oil sands tailings settling from a Canadian tailings pond. Results also showed, depending on the timing of the measurements, lower suspended solids and turbidity. Elevated total organic carbon was observed in the first 48 hours in the BioTiger?-treated columns and then decreased in overlying water. Oil sands tailings mixed with BioTiger? showed a two-fold reduction in suspended solids within 24 hours as compared to abiotic controls. The tailings treated with BioTiger? increased in microbial densities three orders of magnitude from 8.5 × 105 CFU/mL to 1.2 × 108 CFU/mL without any other carbon or energy source added, indicating metabolism of hydrocarbons and other available nutrients. Results demonstrated that bioaugmentation of BioTiger? increased separation of organic carbon from particles in oil sands and enhanced settling with tailings with improved water quality. Samples of residual sands were analyzed for precious metals content. These samples were collected from one of the largest silver mines in the world with the purpose of determining the existence and quantities of precious metals. The collected samples were approximately 5 kg, taken from different sites within the deposit grounds. Each sample was passed through a sieve in order to select only the smallest particles and about 100 g per sample were obtained. Twenty samples were prepared that produced thin foils from which the samples were cut in the shape of disks. The neutron activation analysis method (NAA) was used in this work, using a nuclear reactor (Triga Mark III) as a neutron source and a high-purity germanium detector as spectrometer. The results from the analysis of this study are satisfactory; the main precious metals found were Au, Ru, Os, and Ir. A commercial study is necessary to determine if the exploitation of these sands is financially feasible.  相似文献

Oil sands exploration fragments the boreal landscape by constructing numerous drilling pads to assess underground petroleum reserves. Reclamation of these pads is challenging and slow, particularly for forest understory species. We investigated the feasibility of accelerated forest understory restoration on these temporary pads by taking advantage of the propagule bank and clonal regeneration strategy of many boreal plants. We covered and protected the forest floor (FF) with subsoil during winter pad construction. This forest floor protection (FFP) method was then compared with the current practice of stripping off, stockpiling, and then replacing the FF during the reclamation phase (rollback, RB) and to conventional clearcut (CC) harvesting. In the first growing season, surface disturbance as well as richness and cover of plant regeneration was evaluated; vegetation assessment was repeated in the fifth growing season. Although there were some slight differences between the communities in the FFP and CC treatments, likely associated with varying levels of residual slash and subsoil material, there were striking differences between the communities in the RB and FFP treatments. In addition, while establishment of deciduous tree species was similar between the FFP and CC treatments, there were very few trees found in the RB treatment. The study indicates that protection and careful uncovering of the FF during temporary drilling pad construction should be a technique of choice for forest reclamation used in the boreal forest. However, as RB will still play a part in the reclamation of these sites, management intervention will be required to achieve reclamation goals.  相似文献

为了了解废弃铅锌矿石和钨矿砂中可培养细菌的多样性,发掘其中的微生物新资源,采用3种培养基(R2A、无磷R2A、无磷R2A+Cd2+)分别对其中的可培养细菌进行分离纯化和培养。再通过16S rRNA基因测序获取相关的分类学信息,并进行系统进化分析。从2种材料中共分离到可培养细菌152株。其中,废弃铅锌矿石中的可培养细菌涵盖了5个门、7个分支,分属于Alphaproteobacteria、Betaproteobacteria、Gammaproteobacteria、Deinococcus-Thermus、Actinobacteria、Bacteroidetes和Firmicutes,以Massilia、Methylobacterium、Deinococcus和Sphingomonas为主要类群;而钨矿砂中的可培养细菌涵盖了3个门、4个分支,分属于Alphaproteobacteria、Betaproteobacteria、Actinobacteria和Firmicutes,以Methylobacterium、Massilia、Ralstonia和Microbacterium为主要类群。废弃铅锌矿石中可培养细菌的多样性和新分类单元发现率均大于钨矿砂,且两者的可培养细菌类群组成存在较大差异。此外,向培养基中添加重金属Cd2+降低了可培养细菌的多样性。研究分离到的Cd2+耐受菌株主要属于3个属:Methylobacterium、Herbaspirillum和Ralstonia,其能耐受2 mmol/L Cd2+,是金属尾矿中重金属耐受菌的优势种群。研究结果为金属尾矿中微生物新资源的深入发掘提供了依据。  相似文献

The trajectory of forests establishing on reclaimed oil sands mines in the Canadian boreal forest is uncertain. Soil microbes, namely mycorrhizal fungi, partly underlie successional trajectories of plant communities, yet their role in restoration is often overlooked. Here, we tested the relative importance of common management tools used in restoration—species planted and soil placement—on the recovery of ectomycorrhizal fungal communities over 4 years. Importantly, we further compared the community assembly of fungi on reclaimed landscapes to that in reference ecosystems disturbed to different degrees. This latter test addresses whether disturbance intensity is more important than common management interventions to restore fungal communities in these ecosystems. Three main findings emerged. (1) The effect of tree species planted and soil placement on ectomycorrhizal fungal communities establishing on reclaimed landscapes was dynamic through time. (2) Disturbances that remove or disrupt the organic layer of soils substantially affect the composition of ectomycorrhizal fungal communities. (3) Shifts in the community composition of ectomycorrhizal fungi were driven to a greater extent by disturbance severity than either tree species planted or soil placement.  相似文献
