The problem of testing the equality of several binomial population against an order restricted alternative and model selection for one-dimensional multinomials is studied. Test procedures are proposed. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistics are obtained. Comparisons are made with other test statistics including the likelihood ratio test for stochastic ordering. Molecular alterations leading to genome instability play a key role in tumor development. The basic causes of genetic instability of tumor cells are considered, including distorted regulation of the intracellular level of endogenous mutagens, in particular, reactive oxygen species; impaired fidelity of DNA replication and mitotic chromosome segregation; defects in DNA repair systems; and inactivation of cell-cycle checkpoints, which arrest proliferation of abnormal cells. The review discusses the causes of the tissue specificity of carcinogenesis due to genetic instability, as well as prospects of developing new means to control tumor growth via diminishing genome instability or using defects in the control of genome integrity for selective elimination of neoplastic cells.  相似文献

Meiosis is a carefully choreographed dynamic process that re-purposes proteins from somatic/vegetative cell division, as well as meiosis-specific factors, to carry out the differentiation and recombination pathway common to sexually reproducing eukaryotes. Studies of individual proteins from a variety of different experimental protocols can make it difficult to compare details between them. Using a consistent protocol in otherwise wild-type fission yeast cells, this report provides an atlas of dynamic protein behaviour of representative proteins at different stages during normal zygotic meiosis in fission yeast. This establishes common landmarks to facilitate comparison of different proteins and shows that initiation of S phase likely occurs prior to nuclear fusion/karyogamy.  相似文献

This paper presents a new approximation to the likelihood for a pedigree with loops, based on cutting all loops and extending the pedigree at the cuts. An opimum loop-cutting strategy and an iterative extension technique are presented. The likelihood for a pedigree with loops is then approximated by the conditional likelihood for the entire cut-extended pedigree given the extended part. The approximate likelihoods are compared with the exact likelihoods obtained using the program MENDEL for several small pedigrees with loops. The approximation is efficient for large pedigrees with complex loops in terms of computing speed and memory requirements.  相似文献
