The dark ocean and the underlying deep seafloor together represent the largest environment on this planet, comprising about 80% of the oceanic volume and covering more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface, as well as hosting a major part of the total biosphere. Emerging evidence suggests that these vast pelagic and benthic habitats play a major role in ocean biogeochemistry and represent an “untapped reservoir” of high genetic and metabolic microbial diversity. Due to its huge volume, the water column of the dark ocean is the largest reservoir of organic carbon in the biosphere and likely plays a major role in the global carbon budget. The dark ocean and the seafloor beneath it are also home to a largely enigmatic food web comprising little-known and sometimes spectacular organisms, mainly prokaryotes and protists. This review considers the globally important role of pelagic and benthic protists across all protistan size classes in the deep-sea realm, with a focus on their taxonomy, diversity, and physiological properties, including their role in deep microbial food webs. We argue that, given the important contribution that protists must make to deep-sea biodiversity and ecosystem processes, they should not be overlooked in biological studies of the deep ocean.  相似文献

Cardiac arrhythmia is a condition when the heart rate is irregular either the beat is too slow or too fast. It occurs due to improper electrical impulses that coordinates the heart beats. Sudden cardiac death may occurs due to some dangerous arrhythmias conditions. Hence the main objective of the electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis is to detect the life-threatening arrhythmias accurately for appropriate treatment in order to save life. Since the last decades, several methods were reported for automatic ECG beat classifications. In this work, we present a systematic review of the current state-of-the-art methods used to detect cardiac arrhythmia using on ECG signals. It includes the signal decomposition, feature extraction and machine learning approaches used for automatic detection and decision making process. The articles covers the pre-processing, detection of QRS complex, feature extraction and classification of ECG beats. Based on the past studies, it is understood that the automated approach using computer-aided decision making process is highly required for real-time detection of cardiac arrhythmias. The advantages and limitations of different methods are discussed and also the future scopes is highlighted in the process of effective detection of cardiac arrhythmias. This study could be beneficial for researchers to analyze the existing state-of-art techniques used in detection of arrhythmia conditions.  相似文献

Within a single organism, numerous parasites often compete for space and resources. This competition, together with a parasite’s ability to locate and successfully establish in a host, can contribute to the distribution and prevalence of parasites. Coinfection with trematodes in snail intermediate hosts is rarely observed in nature, partly due to varying competitive abilities among parasite taxa. Using a freshwater snail host (Biomphalaria glabrata), we studied the ability of a competitively dominant trematode, Echinostoma caproni, to establish and reproduce in a host previously infected with a less competitive trematode species, Schistosoma mansoni. Snails were exposed to S. mansoni and co-exposed to E. caproni either simultaneously or 1 week, 4 weeks, or 6 weeks post S. mansoni exposure. Over the course of infection, we monitored the competitive success of the dominant trematode through infection prevalence, parasite development time, and parasite reproductive output. Infection prevalence of E. caproni did not differ among co-exposed groups or between co-exposed and single exposed groups. However, E. caproni infections in co-exposed hosts took longer to reach maturity when the timing between co-exposures increased. All co-exposed groups had higher E. caproni reproductive output than single exposures. We show that although timing of co-exposure affects the development time of parasite transmission stages, it is not important for successful establishment. Additionally, co-exposure, but not priority effects, increases the reproductive output of the dominant parasite.  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨大肠癌患者尊严受损的影响因素,并分析其与症状群和生活质量的关系。方法:纳入我院2018年6月~2020年4月收治的大肠癌患者110例,经患者尊严量表(PDI)评估尊严受损情况,并据此分成受损组(PDI>50分)和未受损组(PDI≤50分),经单因素和Logistic多元回归模型分析患者尊严受损的影响因素。利用安德森症状评估量表评估两组患者的症状,提取主因子分析症状群变化,采用简明生活质量量表(SF-36)评估两组生活质量并进行比较。结果:在110例患者中,尊严受损发生率为29.09%。受损组独立性、症状困扰、社会支持、生存困扰、平和心态评分及PDI总分高于未受损组(P<0.05)。Logistic多元回归分析提示,患者临床分期Ⅳ期(OR=2.577,95%CI:1.385-4.795)、文化程度小学及以下(OR=2.996,95%CI:1.395-6.434)、家庭月收入<1000元(OR=2.068,95%CI:1.316-3.250)、肿瘤转移(OR=3.412,95%CI:1.498-7.772)、病程≥12个月(OR=3.898,95%CI:1.425-10.663)是大肠癌患者尊严受损的影响因素(P<0.05)。受损组核心症状、症状对正常生活干扰程度评分及总分高于未受损组,但受损组躯体功能、躯体疼痛、躯体角色功能、心理健康、情绪角色功能、总体健康评分低于未受损组(P<0.05)。结论:大肠癌患者尊严受损发生率较高,且与多种因素有关,尊严受损者的症状群明显加重,生活质量下降。  相似文献

Objectives:Plateauing of world records in sports has been suggested to reflect the limits of human physiology. Possible explanations include reduced doping or declining popularity that may even lead to a decrease in human performance. Such a decrease, however, has not yet been observed. We hypothesized that rather than a performance plateau, performance has recently declined.Methods:Fifteen athletic disciplines of the Austrian annual rankings were analyzed by regression statistics and the average best performance of the last 20 years compared to earlier periods.Results:The best performances occurred between 1980–1999 and were on average 2.56% (men) and 1.67% (women) better than between 2000–2019. This attenuation was significant in men in 200 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 10 km, long jump, javelin throw (p<0.05), high jump, pole vault, discus throw, shot put and hammer throw (p<0.001); and in women in 400 m, long jump, discus throw (p<0.05) and high jump (p<0.001). The greatest performance declines were observed in the men’s shot put (9.11%) and hammer throw (11.44%).Conclusions:The Austrian track and field annual best results show a performance decline following a peak, instead of a plateau. Future studies should address the causes and whether this also applies to other sports and countries.  相似文献

Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 23 produced by the bone is the principal hormone to regulate serum phosphate level. Serum FGF23 needs to be tightly regulated to maintain serum phosphate in a narrow range. Thus, we hypothesized that the bone has some phosphate-sensing mechanism to regulate the production of FGF23. Previously we showed that extracellular phosphate induces the phosphorylation of FGF receptor 1 (FGFR1) and FGFR1 signaling regulates the expression of Galnt3, whose product works to increase FGF23 production in vitro. In this study, we show the significance of FGFR1 in the regulated FGF23 production and serum phosphate level in vivo. We generated late-osteoblast/osteocyte-specific Fgfr1-knockout mice (Fgfr1fl/fl; OcnCre/+) by crossing the Ocn-Cre and the floxed Fgfr1 mouse lines. We evaluated serum phosphate and FGF23 levels, the expression of Galnt3 in the bone, the body weight and life span. A selective ablation of Fgfr1 aborted the increase of serum active full-length FGF23 and the enhanced expression of Galnt3 in the bone by a high phosphate diet. These mice showed more pronounced hyperphosphatemia compared with control mice. In addition, these mice fed with a control diet showed body weight loss after 23 weeks of age and shorter life span. These results reveal a novel significance of FGFR1 signaling in the phosphate metabolism and normal life span.  相似文献

The fascination of Antarctic scientists with Antarctic krill and their capabilities has a long and varied history, and prompted many scientists to maintain and manipulate krill under laboratory conditions. Starting in the Discovery era with Mackintosh at the King Edward Point labs on South Georgia, 1930, scientists have collected krill from sailing vessels, small boats, inflatable zodiacs and large ice-breaking vessels. Krill have been maintained in small and large jars, deep rectangular tanks, large round tanks and in flow-through and recycling systems. They have been maintained both on board research vessels and in laboratories, in flowing seawater systems at ambient conditions and in temperature-controlled environmental rooms. A few researchers have transported living krill back to their home laboratories, for example tropical laboratories in Japan (Murano) and Australia (Ikeda), temperate laboratories (Nicol) in Australia, a northern European laboratory in Germany (Marschall) and a sunny maritime laboratory in California (Ross and Quetin). The goals have been varied: short-term experiments to understand in situ physiological rates, long-term experiments to test the effects of manipulations or controlled changes in environmental conditions, and behavioral responses. In the early nineteenth century, the discovery of trace fossils fired the imagination of the discoverers and inspired them to compose unique poems. John Joly of Ireland wrote a poem about the invertebrate trace fossil Oldhamia that had been discovered in rocks around Bray Head. In the United States, the Reverend Edward Hitchcock discovered what he felt were giant bird tracks that later turned out to be reptile tracks. The traces inspired Hitchcock, who published a poem “The Sandstone Bird” in The Knickerbocker magazine under the pseudonym Poetaster. The poem is about a sorceress bringing the great sandstone bird back to life and probably represents the first ichnological poem.  相似文献

The Reverend Henry Duncan (1774–1846), clergyman, philosopher, writer, politician, archeologist, poet, educator, social reformer, and the founder of savings banks, was indeed a Man for All Seasons. In 1824, while Minister of the Church of Scotland at Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire, he was presented with a slab of red sandstone from the Corncockle Muir quarry in Annandale, exhibiting a set of footprints on it. Although Duncan felt from the start that he was dealing with the tracks of an animal, he wrote to the Reverend William Buckland, Reader in Mineralogy and Geology at the University of Oxford, to solicit his opinion on the origin of these curious markings. Buckland was at first skeptical, but after receiving casts of the markings from Duncan, he became convinced that they did in fact represent footprints. Duncan and Buckland maintained a correspondence about the footprints, and on January 7, 1828, Duncan described the Corncockle Muir footprints to the Royal Society of Edinburgh and quoted Buckland's findings. Duncan's paper was not published by the Society until 1831, but it aroused considerable interest—“Footsteps before the Flood”!—and was reported in several newspapers. This was the first scientific report of a fossil track; although a schoolboy, Pliny Moody, had found fossil footprints in Connecticut in 1802, they were not scientifically described until 1836. The Scottish tracks are now considered to be not reptilian but of synapsid origin and the rocks containing them are now known to be of Permian age.  相似文献
