本文报道采自辽东半岛沿岸鳗鲡(Anguilla japonica)的白仔鳗和经人工培育的当年幼鳗耳石日轮生长的观察结果。白仔鳗和幼鳗耳石平均直径均与体全长成直线相关。12尾白仔鳗耳石的平均日轮数146.3,据此推测其产卵期为11—12月。观察证实从咸淡水转人到淡水生活的幼鳗耳石的环纹有过渡带存在。 相似文献

In an 18 year old Japanese larch stand, leaf characteristics such as area, weight, gross photosynthetic rate and respiration
rate were studied in order to obtain basic information on estimating canopy photosynthesis and respiration. The leaf growth
courses in area and weight from bud opening were approximated by simple logistic curves. The growth coefficient for the area
growth curve was 0.155–0.175 day−1, while that for the weight growth was 0.112–0.117 day−1. The larger growth coefficient in area growth caused the seasonal change in specific leaf area (SLA) that increased after bud opening to its peak early in May at almost 300 cm2 g−1 and then decreased until it leveled off at about 140 cm2g−1. The change inSLA indicates the possibility that leaf area growth precedes leaf thickness growth. The relationship between the coefficientsa andb of the gross photosynthetic rate (p)-light flux density (1) curve (p=bI/(1+aI)) and the mean relative light flux density (I′/I

The histological development of fertilized ovules during fruit-set and development in pea ( Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska) has been investigated. Killing the ovules on day 0 (anthesis) or day 1 prevented fruit-set and resulted in ovary degeneration. When the ovules were destroyed at later stages the ovaries developed, though the rate of growth of the pod was reduced significantly. Pollination in pea occurs normally the day before anthesis, and fertilization of the egg cell 32 to 48 h later. The first divisions of the zygote and endosperm nuclei started simultaneously (ca 48 h after pollination) but the endosperm developed more rapidly than the embryo; the embryo sac cavity was lined with free endosperm nuclei at the time of beginning suspensor elongation. Extracts of endosperm and ovule coats from ovules at day 7 after anthesis showed fruit-set activity in pea, the latter material having about 3 times more activity than the former per ovule basis. These results indicate that fertilization of the ovule is necessary for fruit-set in pea, and that compounds which induce fruit-set are probably synthesized in the ovules following fertilization. 相似文献

A system was devised for the in vitro culture of soybean fruits. The culture system consisted of a single fruit attached to a short piece of stem through which the nutrients were supplied. The fruit explants were taken when pods were fully expanded and the seeds at initial stages of growth. During a 7-day culture period, the seeds accumulated dry matter and protein in quantities comparable to those in situ. Omission of the C source (sucrose) from the medium resulted in no dry matter accumulation in the seeds, but omission of the N source (glutamine) still led to some protein accumulation, indicating mobilization of N from other parts of the fruit explant. Optimum protein accumulation occurred when glutamine was supplied at 1.2 mg N ml-1. Protein accumulation in the seeds was highly dependent on the nature of the N source. Glutamine, asparagine and the ureide, allantoin, were equally the most efficient sources, whereas several other amino acids tested showed lower degrees of efficiency. The data indicate a high metabolic capacity of the fruit tissues for principal N transport compounds of soybean, namely allantoin, asparagine and glutamine. The culture system described should prove useful for developmental and metabolic studies where the complex influence of the rest of the plant is to be avoided.Abbreviations ALN

Summary In the present study, we have demonstrated, by means of the biotin-avidin method, the widespread distribution of neuropeptide Y (NPY)-immunoreactive structures throughout the whole brain of the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). The prosencephalic region contained the highest concentration of both NPY-containing fibres and perikarya. Immunoreactive fibres were observed throughout, particularly within the paraolfactory lobe, the lateral septum, the nucleus taeniae, the preoptic area, the periventricular hypothalamic regions, the tuberal complex, and the ventrolateral thalamus. NPY-immunoreactive cells were represented by: a) small scattered perikarya in the telencephalic portion (i.e. archistriatal, neostriatal and hyperstriatal regions, hippocampus, piriform cortex); b) medium-sized cell bodies located around the nucleus rotundus, ventrolateral, and lateral anterior thalamic nuclei; c) small clustered cells within the periventricular and medial preoptic nuclei. The brainstem showed a less diffuse innervation, although a dense network of immunopositive fibres was observed within the optic tectum, the periaqueductal region, and the Edinger-Westphal, linearis caudalis and raphes nuclei. Two populations of large NPY-containing perikarya were detected: one located in the isthmic region, the other at the boundaries of the pons with the medulla. The wide distribution of NPY-immunoreactive structures within regions that have been demonstrated to play a role in the control of vegetative, endocrine and sensory activities suggests that, in birds, this neuropeptide is involved in the regulation of several aspects of cerebral functions.Abbreviations

The electrophoretic patterns of the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) from Anastrepha fraterculus and A. obliqua were studied. Two loci were found to code for the enzyme in A. fraterculus, and three in A. obliqua. In both species, all isozymes were active in third-instar larvae. A cationic isozyme (Adh-1) was active mainly in the visceral fat body of both species. In A. fraterculus, the locus had an anionic polymorphic isozyme (Adh-3) that was detected in the parietal fat body. In addition to these two loci, a third locus for an anionic isozyme (Adh-2), which was active in the digestive tube of larvae, was present in A. obliqua and probably resulted from gene duplication. For both species, multiple forms of the isozymes are formed by binding of an NAD-carbonyl compound, as in Drosophila melanogaster. Both larvae and early pupae of A. obliqua had almost twice the specific ADH activity as A. fraterculus. Dried smears prepared from vitally stained sperm were evaluated as a method of simultaneously determining sperm viability and acrosomal morphology. A combination Fast Green FCF-Eosin B stain was used. The stained smears were examined at × 1, 250 using differential interference contrast microscopy (DIC). For comparison, the percentage of sperm with intact acrosomes was also determined from wet smears using DIC. Acrosomal morphology was not altered by the staining procedure, as the percentage of intact acrosomes was similar whether quantitated from wet or stained smears. Absence of eosinophilic staining in the acrosome was used as an indication of sperm viability. The percentage of sperm with unstained acrosomes was highly correlated with the percentage of intact acrosomes quantitated from stained smears. Thus, vital staining provided an indication of sperm viability comparable to acrosomal integrity, a highly reliable technique. The major advantages of using dried stained smears were more thorough examination of individual sperm without sperm activity interference, simultaneous evidence of sperm viability and morphology, and the opportunity to delay evaluation. In addition, diluting spermatozoa in complex or simple media with or without egg yolk or follicular fluid did not interfere with subsequent staining or acrosomal evaluation. 相似文献
