In total, 53 marine actinobacteria were isolated from the soils of six different locations in Goa and Kerala, on the west coast of India. All the isolates were screened for their antifungal properties against some phytopathogenic fungi by dual culture experiments. Among the 53 actinobacterial isolates, five isolates inhibited the growth of phytopathogens, namely Colletotrichum falcatum, Thielaviopsis paradoxa and Fusarium semitectum. But none of them were effective against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus candidus and Aspergillus flavus. The antifungal activity of the actinobacteria was tested by food poisoning techniques, using four different concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) of cell-free culture filtrates, which showed promising activity (almost 100% inhibition) against three pathogenic and one non-pathogenic fungi at 2% extract concentration. A comparison of the antifungal activity of the actinobacteria was also made with three commercial fungicides, namely hexaconazole, thiophanate methyl and propiconazole. The identity of the antagonistic actinobacteria was confirmed based on the morphological, cultural, biochemical, chemo-taxonomical and physiological characteristics. Stone fruits and pome fruits are cultivated commercially worldwide. In India, they are grown in temperate regions, which mainly includes Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and some North-Eastern states. In this study, an attempt has been made to identify the Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) infecting stone and pome fruits in India and to characterise them on the molecular level. Surveys were conducted in the temperate fruit-growing areas and incidence of PNRSV was detected by serological and molecular means in almond, apple, cherry, nectarine, peach, plum and wild cherry. Further diversity analysis of PNRSV was performed using bioinformatics tools such as clustalW, DNA Data Bank of Japan, MultAlin and Recombination Detection Programme. PNRSV was detected in plum, peach, cherry, almond, nectarine, wild cherry and apple. In the diversity analysis study on the basis of coat protein gene, it was found that the isolates showed identity levels from 82 to 100%. In a plum isolate, a stretch of amino acids from 207 to 221 was found variable from Indian and other isolates. In one of the Indian apple isolates, “NR” repeats at 41–44 position (characteristic of PV-32 group, Group I) were identified. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Indian isolates are falling in Group-I. Movement protein was also amplified from peach and multiple alignment studies showed that N-terminus was mostly conserved, whereas the C-terminal was highly variable. 相似文献

A preliminary subnational statistical analysis of violence against Christians in contemporary India, this article suggests that whereas the data provide very little support for simple, demographic explanations of this violence, they do more robustly support theories emphasizing the relative status of ethnic and religious minorities (vis-à-vis majorities) and the perception, among Hindus, that Christians (and other minorities) represent a threat to their numerical, political and economic strength. 相似文献

This article compares ethnic and sub-ethnic attachments in Chinese, Indian, and Korean immigrants in New York City, based on results of a survey. Indian respondents, with much higher levels of education and fluency in English, show a lower level of cultural ethnic attachment than the other two groups. The Chinese show the lowest level of formal ethnic affiliation, mainly due to their much lower level of religious affiliation. All three groups show extremely high levels of informal ethnic networks. However, Chinese and Indian respondents largely limit their close friendships to their sub-ethnic group, based on national origin, religion, regional origin and/or language, while Korean respondents, characterized by group homogeneity, tend to maintain close friendships with all other Koreans. Much larger proportions of Chinese and Indian respondents than Koreans choose the sub-ethnic identity label and they show much lower levels of loyalty to their homeland than Korean respondents. 相似文献

Cancer is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Early diagnosis and treatment of cancer may curb the growing burden of the disease. Understanding cancer patients’ navigation pathways for seeking treatment is important in order to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment. With this background we conducted a hospital-based cross-sectional study comprising 68 randomly selected cancer inpatients in a tertiary cancer specialty hospital in Odisha, India, to explore the treatment-seeking pathways of the cancer patients and the barriers and enablers in seeking treatment. Financial constraint is one of the major reasons for the delay in accessing treatment, even when patients are suspected of or diagnosed with cancer. Low awareness of the presenting signs and symptoms of cancer and limited knowledge of the availability of cancer diagnosis and treatment facilities are major factors contributing to delay. Family and friends’ support is found to be the major enabling factor toward seeking treatment. Generation of awareness of cancer among the general population and primary-care practitioners – including those in alternative systems of medicine – is important. Information on diagnostic and treatment services appears to be a felt need. 相似文献

During the recent field visits to Saurashtra regions of Western India, one of the interesting fungi i.e. Trichaleurina javanica (Rehm) M. Carbone, Agnello & P. Alvarado (Chorioactidaceae, order Pezizales) was collected from Sarkhadiya Hanuman and Sasan (Gir Forest, India). Further confirmation of the identity was carried out by using molecular methods with its DNA barcoding. Review of literature showed that this species was previously reported from India under a different name; the collection here studied is the first one molecularly confirmed. Nucleotide sequence obtained during molecular analysis is submitted into NCBI and is the first record at BOLD data system for its DNA barcode (BOLD ID KSRF-0019). 相似文献

Ganga is the largest riverine system of India with a fragile ecosystem. Its prone to anthropogenic disturbances because of its cultural, economic and environmental values. The contamination of river Ganga by heavy metals (HM) is due to biotic (anthropogenic sources) and abiotic (pesticides, fertilizers) sources that poses a devastating health hazard to human, plant and edible fish life. The chemical analysis with the help of atomic absorption spectrometer performed on its water samples demonstrated the accumulation of heavy metals such as Arsenic (As), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn). Moreover, the spectrophotometric analysis indicated clearly the accumulation of heavy metals in order of occurrence (Fe > As > Cd > Zn > Pb) in liver and (Zn > Fe > As > Cd > Pb) in kidney of edible fish Channa punctatus. The present study has be used to sensitively monitor the extent of heavy metals pollution in the biotic aqua life of river Ramganga system and its suggested that the bioaccumulation of heavy metal in Channa punctatus has reached above permissible limits for human consumption, indicating potential health risks. Actinobacteria, which are the prolific producers of antibiotics and significant suppliers to the pharmaceutical industry, can produce a wide variety of bioactive metabolites. An actinomycete strain designated NLKPB45 was isolated from mangrove soils samples of Nellore coastal regions Andhra Pradesh and assessed for antibiotic production and activity against pathogenic bacteria. From a total of 9 mangrove soil samples, 143 acinomycetes were isolated. Among the isolated them 6 actinomycetes strains showed potential antibacterial activity against at two tested pathogens gram positive and gram negative bacteria E. coli and S. aureus. The potent strain NLKPB45 was identified by 16S gene isolation and sequencing to the Streptomyces genus. The ethyl acetate extracts also as shown excellent antimicrobial activity against Salmonella sp., staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and B. subtilus were detected in both the supernatant extract samples from fermentations of culture NLKPB45. The anticancer activity of extracts in the HeLa with IC50 value of 37.1924 μg/ml, MCF-7 IC50 value of 40.9177 μg/ml and HT 29 IC50 value of 43.3758 μg/ml. 相似文献
