Three-week-old sunflower plants ( Helianthus annuus L. cv. Halcón) grown in nutrient solution at two K+ levels (0.3 and 2.5 m M ) were used to study the effect of 4 μ M abscisic acid (ABA) on the transport of K+ (Rb+) and water to the exuding stream of decapitated plants. Other conditions of the bathing medium of the roots were also assayed, such as presence of 10 m M glucose, aeration and time of ABA application. In the first 2 or 3 h after ABA application, ABA always promoted water and ion fluxes, even under the most unfavorable conditions such as low K+ roots without glucose or under anaerobiosis. The ABA-promoting effect on ion and water flow was higher with glucose in the medium. Under anaerobiosis the ABA effect disappeared after 3 h. With glucose and aeration the ABA-promoting effect appeared early and continued for several hours, although the effect decreased with time. If ABA was applied 24 h before excision, the effect was small or even negative. We suggest that ABA acts directly on membranes of certain root cells (endodermal or both endodermal and cortical cells) by increasing their permeability and thus releasing ions. This will decrease cell turgor pressure and, indirectly, the hydraulic conductivity of the whole root. Under conditions of higher hydraulic conductivity, the presence of ions and glucose in the root stimulates the transport of ions into the xylem. and thus increases the osmotic water flow.  相似文献

The effect of salinity on population densities of Tylenchulus semipenetrans was measured on 3-month-old salt-tolerant Rangpur lime growing on either loamy sand, sand, or organic mix and on 4-month-old salt-sensitive Sweet lime in organic mix. Salinity treatments were initiated by watering daily with 25 mol/m³ NaCl + 3.3 mol/m³ CaCl₂ for 3 days and every other day with 50 mol/m³ NaC1 + 6.6 mol/m³ CaC1₂ for one week, with no salt (NS) treatments as controls. Salinity was discontinued in one treatment (DS) by leaching with tap water prior to inoculation with nematodes, whereas the continuous salinity (CS) treatment remained unchanged. Overall, in Rangpur lime organic soil supported the highest population densities of T. semipenetrans, followed by loamy sand and sand. The DS treatment resulted in the highest (P ≤ 0.05) mean population densities of T. semipenetrans in the three soil types. Similarly, the DS treatment in Sweet lime resulted in the highest (P ≤ 0.05) nematode populations. The DS treatment predisposed citrus to nematode infection through accumulated salt stress, whereas leaching soluble salt in soil solution offered nematodes a suitable nonosmotic habitat. Nematode females under the DS treatment also had the highest (P ≤ 0.05) fecundity.  相似文献

A prototype system for passive intracranial monitoring using microwave radiometry is proposed. It comprises an ellipsoidal conductive wall cavity to achieve beamforming and focusing, in conjunction with sensitive multiband receivers for detection. The system has already shown the capability to provide temperature and/or conductivity variations in phantoms and biological tissue. In this article, a variant of the initially constructed modality is theoretically and experimentally investigated. Specifically, dielectric matching materials are used in an effort to improve the system's focusing attributes. The theoretical study investigates the effect of dielectric matching materials on the system's detection depth, whereas measurements with phantoms focus on the investigation of the system's detection level and spatial resolution. The combined results suggest that the dielectric matching layers lead to the improvement of the system's detection depth and temperature detection level. Also, the system's spatial resolution is explored at various experimental setups. Theoretical and experimental results conclude that with the appropriate combination of operation frequencies and dielectric layers, it is possible to monitor areas of interest inside human head models with a variety of detection depths and spatial resolutions.
