Prodiplosis longifila Gagné (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is an insect pest that attacks various types of crops, including tomato, Solanum lycopersicum L. (Solanaceae), a vegetable with substantial economic significance worldwide. Prodiplosis longifila is a widely distributed pest in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, countries characterized by the presence of significant geographic barriers like the Andes Mountains. It has been reported that geographic barriers affect the dynamics and genetic differentiation of insect populations. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the diversity, genetic structure, and demographic history of P. longifila through the analysis of sequences within the mitochondrial region of cytochrome oxidase I (COI) and rDNA‐ITS2 in 27 populations located in Colombia and Ecuador. Analyses were performed on populations distributed in three geographic groups separated by the presence of the Andes Mountains. A total of 11 haplotypes were identified with the COI gene and only one haplotype in the rDNA‐ITS2 was found. Analyses of population structure and demographic history revealed that there is a structure associated with the Andes, which is reflected in an uneven distribution of the haplotype frequencies between regions, but even so, gene flow between populations was detected which produces low genetic differentiation. Because P. longifila has a short‐range dispersion that determines its territorial nature, it would be expected that other factors are producing the genetic exchange between populations. We suggest that the anthropogenic effect produced by farming practices, such as the use of seedlings as seed, which may carry P. longifila larvae, cause passive dispersal of pest throughout the Andes, particularly in Colombia. 相似文献

This study examined sex‐specific differences in home range size of adult Indo‐Pacific bottlenose dolphins off Bunbury, Western Australia. We applied a new kernel density estimation approach that accounted for physical barriers to movements. A Bayesian mixture model was developed to estimate a sex effect in home range size with latent group partitioning constrained by association data. A post hoc analysis investigated group partitioning relating to the proportion of time spent in open vs. sheltered waters. From 2007 to 2013, photographic‐identification data were collected along boat‐based systematic transect lines (n = 586). Analyses focused on adult dolphins of known sex (sighted ≥ 30 times; n = 22 males and 34 females). The 95% utilization distributions of males varied between 27 and 187 km2 (; 94.8 ± 48.15) and for females between 20 and 133 km2 (65.6 ± 30.9). The mixture model indicated a 99% probability that males had larger home ranges than females. Dolphins mostly sighted in open waters had larger home ranges than those in sheltered waters. Home ranges of dolphins sighted in sheltered waters overlapped with areas of highest human activity. We suggest that sex differences in home ranges are driven by male mating strategies, and home range size differences between habitats may be influenced by prey availability and predation risk. 相似文献

Cationic hetero[6]helicenes 1+ , 2+ and 3+ have been recently disclosed. Herein we report on their enantiomeric separation using high‐performance liquid chromatography. Separation of the antipodes can be achieved in preparative scale on neutral adducts with Chiralcel OD‐I or Chiralpak ID CSP. Selectivity factors of 1.90, 1.67, and 1.96 were obtained for 1-H , 2-H , and 3-H , respectively. Separation can also be performed on the carbenium ions on regular Chiralpak IA CSP using water‐containing eluents, thus allowing for enantiomeric purity determinations in aqueous environments. Resolution of neutral and cationic helicenes is also achieved on more recently developed LARIHC columns. The versatility of the cyclofructan phases allows for baseline separations for both cases and their loading capabilities are demonstrated. Finally, the configurational stability of 1+ , 2+ , and 3+ was measured. For each replacement of an oxygen atom by an amino group, the racemization barrier increases significantly (ΔG? = 29.8, 36.3 and >37 kcal mol‐1 for 1+ , 2+ , and 3+ respectively). The amount of dispersal that occurs among populations can be limited by landscape heterogeneity, which is often due to both natural processes and anthropogenic activity leading to habitat loss or fragmentation. Understanding how populations are structured and mapping existing dispersal corridors among populations is imperative to both determining contemporary forces mediating population connectivity, and informing proper management of species with fragmented populations. Furthermore, the contemporary processes mediating gene flow across heterogeneous landscapes on a large scale are understudied, particularly with respect to widespread species. This study focuses on a widespread game bird, the Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus), for which we analyzed samples from the western extent of the range. Using three types of genetic markers, we uncovered multiple factors acting in concert that are responsible for mediating contemporary population connectivity in this species. Multiple genetically distinct groups were detected; microsatellite markers revealed six groups, and a mitochondrial marker revealed four. Many populations of Ruffed Grouse are genetically isolated, likely by macrogeographic barriers. Furthermore, the addition of landscape genetic methods not only corroborated genetic structure results, but also uncovered compelling evidence that dispersal resistance created by areas of unsuitable habitat is the most important factor mediating population connectivity among the sampled populations. This research has important implications for both our study species and other inhabitants of the early successional forest habitat preferred by Ruffed Grouse. Moreover, it adds to a growing body of evidence that isolation by resistance is more prevalent in shaping population structure of widespread species than previously thought. 相似文献

The evolutionary pattern of the myc-like anthocyanin regulatory gene antR-Cor was examined in the dwarf dogwood species complex (Cornus Subgenus Arctocrania) that contains two diploid species (C. canadensis and C. suecica), their putative hybrids with intermediate phenotypes, and a tetraploid derivative (C. unalaschkensis). Full-length sequences of this gene (∼4 kb) were sequenced and characterized for 47 dwarf dogwood samples representing all
taxa categories from 43 sites in the Pacific Northwest. Analysis of nucleotide diversity indicated departures from neutral
evolution, due most likely to local population structure. Neighbor-joining and haplotype network analyses show that sequences
from the tetraploid and diploid intermediates are much more strongly diverged from C. suecica than from C. canadensis, and that the intermediate phenotypes may represent an ancestral group to C. canadensis rather than interspecific hybrids. Seven amino acid mutations that are potentially linked to myc-like anthocyanin regulatory
gene function correlate with petal colors differences that characterize the divergence between two diploid species and the
tetraploid species in this complex. The evidence provides a working hypothesis for testing the role of the gene in speciation
and its link to the petal coloration. Sequencing and analysis of additional nuclear genes will be necessary to resolve questions
about the evolution of the dwarf dogwood complex. 相似文献

Introgressive hybridization occurs when closely related taxa overlap in distribution and is often associated with historically
isolated populations coming into contact as a result of anthropogenic disturbance. There is evolutionary and conservation
interest in detecting hybridization to determine its implications on future species composition, especially for threatened
and recovering taxa such as subantarctic (Arctocephalus tropicalis) and Antarctic (A. gazella) fur seals, which were driven to the brink of extinction by human exploitation. Hybridization between these species has been
reported at two locations and they breed sympatrically at a third site, Iles Crozet. While hybrid individuals have previously
been identified based on phenotype, individuals can be difficult to classify based on these characteristics alone. Genotypic
hybrid identification has been successful in several species, including fur seals. In this study we conducted an assignment
test using microsatellite data to identify hybrids and to measure the frequency of hybridization at Iles Crozet. Samples were
collected from 372 individuals and screened with 6 polymorphic microsatellite markers. MtDNA genotypes were also determined
for individuals identified as hybrids or backcrosses based on microsatellite genotype. Phenotype, microsatellite and mtDNA
genotype were then compared in order to identify hybrids. The results indicate that 1% of the population have hybrid genotypes
and at a minimum, 2.4% of the population are backcrossed to parental species. We found that the two species are genetically
distinct from one another and given the low rate of hybridization it is unlikely that they will fuse. These results suggest
that there is a mechanism for species recognition that acts as a barrier to hybridization. It therefore seems unlikely that
fur seals are threatened by significant introgression. Further investigation of fur seal mating systems would provide valuable
insight into the mechanisms governing hybridization and species recognition in mate choice. 相似文献

Herein, we disclose the design of a model Ni(II) complex of glycine Schiff base possessing single‐nitrogen stereogenic center, which was successfully used for high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)‐assisted assessment of its configurational stability. The major finding is that the configurational stability of the Ni(II)‐coordinated nitrogen is profoundly dependent on the reaction conditions used, in particular the solvent, and can range from inconsequential (t½ less than 5 min) to virtually completely stable (t½ 90 y). The discovery reported in this study most likely to be of certain theoretical and synthetic value. 相似文献
