We asked whether 3–5 kg N y−1 atmospheric N deposition was sufficient to have influenced natural, otherwise undisturbed, terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems
of the Colorado Front Range by comparing ecosystem processes and properties east and west of the Continental Divide. The eastern
side receives elevated N deposition from urban, agricultural, and industrial sources, compared with 1–2 kg N y−1 on the western side. Foliage of east side old-growth Englemann spruce forests have significantly lower C:N and lignin:N ratios
and greater N:Mg and N:P ratios. Soil % N is higher, and C:N ratios lower in the east side stands, and potential net N mineralization
rates are greater. Lake NO3 concentrations are significantly higher in eastern lakes than western lakes. Two east side lakes studied paleolimnologically
revealed rapid changes in diatom community composition and increased biovolumes and cell concentrations. The diatom flora
is now representative of increased disturbance or eutrophication. Sediment nitrogen isotopic ratios have become progressively
lighter over the past 50 years, coincident with the change in algal flora, possibly from an influx of isotopically light N
volatilized from agricultural fields and feedlots. Seventy-five percent of the increased east side soil N pool can be accounted
for by increased N deposition commensurate with human settlement. Nitrogen emissions from fixed, mobile, and agricultural
sources have increased dramatically since approximately 1950 to the east of the Colorado Front Range, as they have in many
parts of the world. Our findings indicate even slight increases in atmospheric deposition lead to measurable changes in ecosystem
properties.

【背景】新型病原微生物层出不穷,放线菌作为最重要的抗生素生产菌仍受制于纯培养困难和菌种资源不足,而对于盐湖沉积物中的丰富放线菌资源却鲜有报道。【目的】探索巴里坤、七角井和台特玛盐湖沉积物放线菌群落结构及其多样性,分析盐湖沉积物中化学离子成分对放线菌群落的影响。【方法】每个盐湖采集5份样品并混合,使用SDS-CTAB抽提法提取总DNA,使用放线菌特异性引物进行PCR扩增并构建16S r RNA基因文库,每个样品随机挑选220个克隆子,经过Hae III酶切筛选后对阳性克隆子进行测序分析;对每个样品的8种主要化学离子进行检测,并将沉积物化学离子成分与放线菌群落进行关联性分析。【结果】获得的381个克隆序列属于143个操作分类单元(Operational taxonomic Unit,OTU),聚类结果显示从3个盐湖中共探测到37个放线菌属(台特玛盐湖:24;巴里坤盐湖:16;七角井盐湖:14)。3个盐湖共有的放线菌属为Aciditerrimonas、Aquihabitans、Demequina、Dietzia、Ilumatobacter和Amycolatopsis。从放线菌群落结构上看,台特玛盐湖与其他两湖差异性很大,巴里坤盐湖与七角井盐湖群落相似性更高,巴里坤、七角井和台特玛盐湖未知放线菌的组成分别为47.59%、53.07%和51.53%。利用RDA(Redundancy analysis)分析盐湖沉积物化学离子与放线菌群落的关联性,结果显示与Na~+、Cl~-和K~+相比,Mg~(2+)、Ca~(2+)、SO_4~(2-)、HCO_3~-和CO_3~(2-)与盐湖放线菌类群的相关关系要更加紧密。【结论】3个盐湖中具有丰富的放线菌多样性,包含大量的未知放线菌。盐湖沉积物不同的化学离子成分影响着各自独特的放线菌群落,可为开发新的盐湖放线菌资源提供依据。 相似文献

Estimates of regional and global freshwater N2O emissions have remained inaccurate due to scarce data and complexity of the multiple processes driving N2O fluxes the focus predominantly being on summer time measurements from emission hot spots, agricultural streams. Here, we present four‐season data of N2O concentrations in the water columns of randomly selected boreal lakes covering a large variation in latitude, lake type, area, depth, water chemistry, and land use cover. Nitrate was the key driver for N2O dynamics, explaining as much as 78% of the variation of the seasonal mean N2O concentrations across all lakes. Nitrate concentrations varied among seasons being highest in winter and lowest in summer. Of the surface water samples, 71% were oversaturated with N2O relative to the atmosphere. Largest oversaturation was measured in winter and lowest in summer stressing the importance to include full year N2O measurements in annual emission estimates. Including winter data resulted in fourfold annual N2O emission estimates compared to summer only measurements. Nutrient‐rich calcareous and large humic lakes had the highest annual N2O emissions. Our emission estimates for Finnish and boreal lakes are 0.6 and 29 Gg N2O‐N/year, respectively. The global warming potential of N2O from lakes cannot be neglected in the boreal landscape, being 35% of that of diffusive CH4 emission in Finnish lakes. 相似文献

Population densities and total phosphorus concentrations in samples from different lakes of south-eastern Norway were determined. In addition some transplant experiments with dilute phytoplankton populations were carried out. A laboratory batch culture method was used.The diatoms studied may be divided into three ecological groups based on their cell densities and total phosphorus concentrations in the samples. This classification was supported by the experimental results.
Cyclotella spp., Asterionella formosa and Tabellaria fenestrata did not grow or had low growth rates above pH 9. Synedra cf. acus and Fragilaria crontonensis had often high growth rates within the pH 9–10 range, but were not able to grow at pH values above 10. High pH-values had no effect on the growth rate of Oscillatoria.
Oscillatoria, Synedra and Stephanodiscus were severely growth-limited in filtered water from oligotrophic lakes. Maximum growth rates of all the populations studied were often obtained after addition of phosphate and chelated iron (FeEDTA) in combination to filtered water samples from oligotrophic/mesotrophic lakes. 相似文献

Methane (CH4) emitted from high-latitude lakes accounts for 2–6% of the global atmospheric CH4 budget. Methanotrophs in lake sediments and water columns mitigate the amount of CH4 that enters the atmosphere, yet their identity and activity in arctic and subarctic lakes are poorly understood. We used stable isotope probing (SIP), quantitative PCR (Q-PCR), pyrosequencing and enrichment cultures to determine the identity and diversity of active aerobic methanotrophs in the water columns and sediments (0–25 cm) from an arctic tundra lake (Lake Qalluuraq) on the north slope of Alaska and a subarctic taiga lake (Lake Killarney) in Alaska''s interior. The water column CH4 oxidation potential for these shallow (∼2 m deep) lakes was greatest in hypoxic bottom water from the subarctic lake. The type II methanotroph, Methylocystis, was prevalent in enrichment cultures of planktonic methanotrophs from the water columns. In the sediments, type I methanotrophs (Methylobacter, Methylosoma and Methylomonas) at the sediment-water interface (0–1 cm) were most active in assimilating CH4, whereas the type I methanotroph Methylobacter and/or type II methanotroph Methylocystis contributed substantially to carbon acquisition in the deeper (15–20 cm) sediments. In addition to methanotrophs, an unexpectedly high abundance of methylotrophs also actively utilized CH4-derived carbon. In recent years, the assessment of ecosystem services (ES) supply has been based on the use of Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) data as proxies for spatial representation of ecosystems. Nevertheless, some shortcomings of this method, such as uncertainties derived from generalization of the ecosystem types and assumptions of invariance across spatial scales, indicate the need for new approaches. Such approaches could be aimed at improving knowledge of the relationships between ecosystem services and landscape structure and the spatial characteristics of ES patterns. In this study, we propose an integrative approach that involves the generation and analysis of continuous maps representing the supply of five ES potentially related to the amount of biomass. Five remote sensing images of the Northwestern Iberian Peninsula, obtained with Landsat-5 TM, were used to generate a proxy for net primary production by combining the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) of each image to calculate a ΣNDVI index that could act as a potential indicator of some ecosystem services. This information was combined with three variables – terrain slope, population density and occurrence of protected areas – to produce spatial models for the five ES and eventually a series of five supply maps. Food, materials and energy provision services showed a clustered pattern, with high supply values in flat zones and areas with high population densities. In contrast, mass flow and climate regulation services were more widely distributed throughout the study area. The five ecosystem service patterns were analyzed at different scales by two methods: lacunarity and four term local quadrat variance (4TLQV) analysis. These methods revealed differences in the spatial pattern: lacunarity analysis was useful for detection of scale thresholds at the local level, whereas 4TLQV was more sensitive to scale thresholds at larger spatial levels. Thus, the variance analysis yielded higher values for larger windows sizes, particularly for provisioning services. The results demonstrated the suitability of the proposed approach for the spatially explicit modeling of ecosystem services, avoiding the uncertainty of other assessments such as those based on LULC data, and for the exploratory analysis of ES supply from a spatial point of view. 相似文献

Behaviour of large perch Perca fluviatilis was studied in two lakes differing in environmental state i.e. mesotrophic v. hypereutrophic. A total of 20 adult perch P. fluviatilis (29–42 cm total length) in each lake were tagged with radio‐transmitters, tracked and located eight times a day during six 24 h tracking periods over a year, enabling detection of differences in diel activity patterns and habitat use during summer and winter under two different environmental regimes. During summer, P. fluviatilis in the mesotrophic lake showed a distinct crepuscular activity pattern and a change from pelagic residency during daytime towards the littoral zone at night. In contrast, P. fluviatilis in the hypereutrophic lake were active during the entire diel cycle and were spread throughout the lake also during dark. During winter, crepuscular patterns of activity were seen in both lakes. Condition factor of large P. fluviatilis did not differ between the two lakes. Thus, it is suggested that P. fluviatilis in the hypereutrophic turbid lake adopted an alternative behaviour for successful foraging, being uniformly active throughout the diel cycle. 相似文献

Ecological diversification through divergent selection is thought to be a major force during the process of adaptive radiations. However, the large sizes and complexity of most radiations such as those of the cichlids in the African Great Lakes make it impossible to infer the exact evolutionary history of any population divergence event. The genus Alcolapia, a small cichlid lineage endemic to Lakes Magadi and Natron in East Africa, exhibits phenotypes similar to some of those found in cichlids of the radiations of the African Great Lakes. The simplicity within Alcolapia makes it an excellent model system to investigate ecological diversification and speciation. We used an integrated approach including population genomics based on RAD‐seq data, geometric morphometrics and stable isotope analyses to investigate the eco‐morphological diversification of tilapia in Lake Magadi and its satellite lake Little Magadi. Additionally, we reconstructed the demographic history of the species using coalescent simulations based on the joint site frequency spectrum. The population in Little Magadi has a characteristically upturned mouth—possibly an adaptation to feeding on prey from the water surface. Eco‐morphological differences between populations within Lake Magadi are more subtle, but are consistent with known ecological differences between its lagoons such as high concentrations of nitrogen attributable to extensive guano deposits in Rest of Magadi relative to Fish Springs Lagoon. All populations diverged simultaneously only about 1100 generations ago. Differences in levels of gene flow between populations and the effective population sizes have likely resulted in the inferred heterogeneous patterns of genome‐wide differentiation. 相似文献

Life cycles and annual production of the chironomidCladopelma virescens are studied at two different depths in the sublittoral (5m) and the profundal (12m) zones of the karstic Lake Banyoles (NE Spain). Two generations were completed by this chironomid in the two sampling stations studied. Production was estimated with two different methods: increment-summation (IS) and size-frequency (SF). In the IS method the smoothed survivorship curves were estimated because of the absence of the smaller instars in the samples. The mean annual production varied from 44 to 70 mg m–2y–1 in the deeper station and from 215 to 270 mg m–2y–1 in the shallower, depending on whether the size-frequency or increment summation method was used. Annual P/B varied between 5.07 and 5.67, and 6.14 and 4.11 respectively. Due to the many assumptions to be made with the IS method, we suggest the SF method in this case, because the values given by the two methods are of the same order of magnitude. 相似文献
