Cortinarius sarcoflammeus is proposed as a new species belonging to subgenus Dermocybe, on the basis of its morphological, chemical and ecological characters. The strong red-orange colour of the context and stipe base, large spores, sphagnicolous habitat and high dermorubin content are characteristic for the new species. Holotypes of C. huronensis and C. huronensis var. olivaceus have been examined for comparison, and their differences discussed. Photographs and line drawings of C. sarcoflammeus are added. In the flower of Hydrolea palustris, unusually orientated with one sepal abaxially, organogenesis starts in following sequence: five sepals (2/5 sequence), five simultaneously initiated alternating petals, five episepalous stamens, two (seldom three) carpels forming a coenocarpous septate gynoecium. The two carpels are orientated rather in the diagonal floral plane than in the median one. Petal primordia fuse very late by forming interprimordial bridges (late sympetaly!). Many ovules develop on considerably widened placentas. On the very basis of the superior ovary a five-humped nectary disk is formed.Within Solanales (APG II 2003) late sympetaly, an intrastaminal disk and a 2-carpellate, septate, superior ovary are found in Hydroleaceae, Convolvulaceae, and Solanaceae. Enlarged axile placentas characterize Hydrolea, Solanaceae, and Sphenocleaceae but Sphenocleaceae differ considerably by early sympetaly. Montiniaceae differ by having a choripetalous corolla. Nearly diagonal orientation of the carpels seems to relate Hydrolea close to Solanaceae, but the orientation of the calyx is different.  相似文献

It has been shown that both IAA and ethylene application inhibit flower induction in the short-day plant Pharbitis nil. However application of IAA has elevated ethylene production in this plant, as well. Strong enhancement of ethylene production is also correlated with the night-break effect, which completely inhibits flowering. In order to determine what the role of IAA and ethylene is in the photoperiodic flower induction in Pharbitis nil, we measured changes in their levels during inductive and non-inductive photoperiods, and the effects of ethylene biosynthesis and action inhibitors on inhibition of flowering by IAA. Our results have shown that the inhibitory effect of IAA on Pharbitis nil flowering is not physiological but is connected with its effect on ethylene biosynthesis.  相似文献

Non-destructive scanning electron microscopy allows one to visualize changing patterns of individual cells during epidermal development in single meristems. Cell growth and division can be followed in parallel with morphogenesis. The method is applied here to the shoot apex of Anagallis arvensis L. before, during, and after floral transition. Phyllotaxis is decussate; photoperiodic induction of the plant leads to the production of a flower in the axil of each leaf. As seen from above, the recently formed oval vegetative dome is bounded on its slightly longer sides by creases of adjacent leaf bases. The rounded ends of the dome are bounded by connecting tissue, horizontal bands of node cells between the opposed leaf bases. The major growth axis runs parallel to the leaf bases. While slow-growing at the dome center, this axis extends at its periphery to form a new leaf above each band of connecting tissue. Connecting tissue then forms between the new leaves and a new dome is defined at 90° to the former. The growth axis then changes by 90°. This is the vegetative cycle. The first observed departure from vegetative growth is that the connecting tissue becomes longer relative to the leaf creases. Presumably because of this, the major growth axis does not change in the usual way. Extension on the dome continues between the older leaves until the axis typically buckles a second time, on each side, to form a second crease parallel to the new leaf-base crease. The tissue between these two creases becomes the flower primordium. The second crease also delimits the side of a new apical dome with the major axis and growth direction altered by 90°. During this inflorescence cycle the connecting tissue is relatively longer than before. Much activity is common to both cycles. It is concluded that the complex geometrical features of the inflorescence cycle may result from a change in a biophysical boundary condition involving dome geometry, rather than a comprehensive revision of apical morphogenesis.Abbreviation SEM scanning electron microscopy, micrograph Use of the SEM facility of Professor G. Scytonemin, the yellow-brown pigment of cyanobacterial (blue-green algal) extracellular sheaths, was found in species thriving in habitats exposed to intense solar radiation. Scytonemin occurred predominantly in sheaths of the outermost parts or top layers of cyanobacterial mats, crusts, or colonies. Scytonemin appears to be a single compound identified in more than 30 species of cyanobacteria from cultures and natural populations. It is lipid soluble and has a prominent absorption maximum in the near-ultraviolet region of the spectrum (384 nm in acetone; ca. 370 nm in vivo) with a long tail extending to the infrared region. Microspectrophotometric measurements of the transmittance of pigmented sheaths and the quenching of ultraviolet excitation of phycocyanin fluorescence demonstrate that the pigment was effective in shielding the cells from incoming near-ultraviolet-blue radiation, but not from green or red light. High light intensity (between 99 and 250 μmol photon · m?2· S?1, depending on species) promoted the synthesis of scytonemin in cultures of cyanobacteria. In cultures, high light intensity caused reduction in the specific content of Chl a and phycobilins, increase in the ratio of total carotenoids to Chl a, and scytonemin increase. UV-A (320–400 nm) radiation was very effective in eliciting scytonemin synthesis. Scytonemin production was physiological and not due to a mere photochemical conversion. These results strongly suggest that scytonemin production constitutes an adaptive strategy of photoprotection against short-wavelength solar irradiance.  相似文献

In an organism (strain C 1/2 from Dr. P. R. Hayes, Leeds) regarded as a typical representative of the genus Flavobacterium, flexirubin-type pigments have been identified. The Flavobacterium pigments contain structural elements of both, the pigments of the genus Flexibacter and the pigments of the genus Cytophaga. As flexirubin-type pigments seem to have a rather restricted distribution among bacteria, and have formerly proved to be useful chemosystematic markers for the flexibacteria, this new observation may indicate that there is a relatively close phylogenetic relationship between this type of flavobacteria and the Cytophaga-Flexibacter group.  相似文献

A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method is described that allows improved resolution of several chemotaxonomically significant phytoplankton pigments. The protocol, which employs two pumps and a modified Mantoura and Llewellyn (1983) solvent system, can be easily adapted for many HPLC systems currently in use. The most unique aspect of the method is the use of a polymeric C18 reversed phase HPLC column (VYDAC 201TP). In comparison to the monomeric C18 columns typically used in the characterization of phytoplankton pigments, polymeric C18 columns offer superior selectivity for structurally similar compounds. The protocol was evaluated for the ability to resolve most of the phytoplankton pigments of diagnostic importance using algal cultures from nine classes. Pigment pairs that were resolved by the method include a) lutein and zeaxanthin, b) neoxanthin and 19′-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin, and c) α-carotene and β-carotene, and partial resolution of chlorophyll c1 and chlorophyll c2.  相似文献

Gentianella bohemica Skalický (Gentianaceae) is a critically endangered species endemic to the Bohemian Massif in the border region of Germany, Czechia and Austria. It consists of a restricted number of extremely scattered populations which are known to form distinct genetic groups. The objective of this work was to test for differences in the floral scent between Gentianella bohemica and Gentianella germanica and within these two species among populations, and to test for a correlation of scent and genetic similarity among the populations of G. bohemica. Floral scent was collected from the inflorescences/plants of eight flowering populations of G. bohemica and three populations of G. germanica using dynamic headspace methods, followed by GC/MS analyses. Both species emitted several aromatic and terpenoid compounds and multivariate analyses revealed differences in scent between the two species and within species among G. bohemica populations. Volatile components overlapped as expected for closely related species but floral scent was taxon-specific. Floral scent differentiation among G. bohemica populations was in high congruence with the genetic differentiation suggesting that scent differences among populations have a genetic basis and showing that scent is a suitable chemotaxonomic marker in this species.  相似文献

In the genus Petunia, distinct pollination syndromes may have evolved in association with bee-visitation (P. integrifolia spp.) or hawk moth-visitation (P. axillaris spp). We investigated the extent of congruence between floral fragrance and olfactory perception of the hawk moth Manduca sexta. Hawk moth pollinated P. axillaris releases high levels of several compounds compared to the bee-pollinated P. integrifolia that releases benzaldehyde almost exclusively. The three dominating compounds in P. axillaris were benzaldehyde, benzyl alcohol and methyl benzoate. In P. axillaris, benzenoids showed a circadian rhythm with an emission peak at night, which was absent from P. integrifolia. These characters were highly conserved among different P. axillaris subspecies and P. axillaris accessions, with some differences in fragrance composition. Electroantennogram (EAG) recordings using flower-blends of different wild Petunia species on female M. sexta antennae showed that P. axillaris odours elicited stronger responses than P. integrifolia odours. EAG responses were highest to the three dominating compounds in the P. axillaris flower odours. Further, EAG responses to odour-samples collected from P. axillaris flowers confirmed that odours collected at night evoked stronger responses from M. sexta than odours collected during the day. These results show that timing of odour emissions by P. axillaris is in tune with nocturnal hawk moth activity and that flower-volatile composition is adapted to the antennal perception of these pollinators.  相似文献
