The yeast HAL1 gene facilitates K+/Na+ selectivity and salt tolerance of cells. Ectopic expression of HAL1 in transgenic tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) plants minimized the reduction in fruit production caused by salt stress. Maintenance of fruit production by transgenic plants was correlated with enhanced growth under salt stress of calli derived from the plants. The HAL1 transgene enhanced water and K+ contents in both leaf calli and leaves in the presence of salt, which indicates that HAL1 functions in plants using a similar mechanism to that in yeast, namely by facilitating K+/Na+ selectivity under salt stress.  相似文献

We investigated the physiological and growth responses of native (Populus fremontii S. Wats. and Salix gooddingii Ball) and exotic (Tamarix chinensis Lour.) riparian trees to ground water availability at the free‐flowing Hassayampa River, Arizona, during dry (1997) and wet (1998) years. In the drier year, all species experienced considerable water stress, as evidenced by low shoot water potentials, low leaf gas exchange rates and large amounts of canopy dieback. These parameters were significantly related to depth of ground water (DGW) in the native species, but not in T. chinensis, in 1997. Canopy dieback was greater in the native species than in T. chinensis when ground water was deep in 1997, and dieback increased rapidly at DGW > 2·5–3·0 m for the native species. Analysis of combined data from wet and dry years for T. chinensis tentatively suggests a similar physiological sensitivity to water availability and a similar DGW threshold for canopy dieback. In 1998, shoot water potential and leaf gas exchange rates were higher and canopy dieback was lower for all species because of increased water availability. However, T. chinensis showed a much larger increase in leaf gas exchange rates in the wet year than the native species. High leaf gas exchange rates, growth when water is abundant, drought tolerance and the maintenance of a viable canopy under dry conditions are characteristics that help explain the ability of T. chinensis to thrive in riparian ecosystems in the south‐western United States.  相似文献

The effect of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) on floweringand on endogenous levels of isoprenoid cytokinins wasinvestigated in explanted terminal shoots of Chenopodium rubrum cultivated in vitro. Themother plants were grown under continuous light andexplants were cut off when the 6th leaf primordiumoriginated at the shoot apex. The explants wereexposed to one dark period of 13 hours inductive forflowering or to continuous light on medium with orwithout BAP (0.05;0.2;0.4 mg.l-1). Undernon-inductive conditions no flowering was observedeither in the control or after BAP treatment. Afterreceiving one inductive dark period, the controlexplants flowered. However, BAP application either atthe beginning of the inductive dark period and/orduring the following light cultivation inhibitedflowering and stimulated initiation and growth of leafprimordia. In the case of the most efficient BAPconcentration (0.05 mg.l-1) flowering wasinhibited by 80% and the number of leaf primordia wasincreased by 3. Explantation caused a significantincrease in the total amount of endogenous cytokininsin the explants within first 13 h, provided they werekept in light. When explants were kept in darkness,only a slight increase in cytokinin levels wasobserved. BAP treatment had no influence on the levelsof endogenous cytokinins either in light or indarkness. We may thus conclude, that BAP applicationinhibited flowering of photoperiodically inducedterminal shoot explants and stimulated leaf primordiaformation with no significant effect on changes inlevels of endogenous isoprenoid cytokinins. This maysuggest the direct ability of BAP to regulate morphogenesis.  相似文献

沙地柏(Sabina vulgaris)的叶包括刺叶和鳞叶两种类型。本文探讨沙地柏刺叶与鳞叶的结构和功能差异的生态意义。结果表明:(1)刺叶的角质层厚度、表皮细胞大小、叶肉细胞表面积和维管束大小都显著小于鳞叶;(2)刺叶的组织密度和失水系数都明显大于鳞叶;(3)刺叶的净光合速度、蒸腾速率和胞间CO2/大气CO2比都显著大于鳞叶,而前者的水分利用效率显著低于后者。这些结果指示:沙地柏刺叶的光合产物积累和水分丧失量大于鳞叶,但前者的抗旱保水性、耐辐射能力和水分利用效率都低于后者。刺叶和鳞叶的结构和功能差异表明:沙地柏叶型变化在一定程度上具有适应意义。  相似文献

Net photosynthetic rate (P N) and dark respiration rate (R D) were measured in Vitis vinifera L. cvs. Dimiat 4/24 (23rd subculture), Dimiat 4/38 (22nd subculture), and Italian Riesling 3/47 (22nd subculture) on days 3, 2, and 1 (1st series) before transfer from the in vitro culture and on days 14, 15, 16 (2nd series) and 28, 29, 30 (3rd series) after the transfer. P N of in vitro and ex vitro plants was strongly affected by irradiance. P N and R D of in vitro plantlets were lower and transpiration rate (E) was higher compared to those of ex vitro plantlets. P N, R D, and E changed in the course of acclimation.  相似文献

Recent developmental studies suggest that the compound leaf is a more or less incompletely developed shoot. Instead of treating compound leaves and shoots as non-homologous, this interpretation draws a continuum between them. The present work considers the plant as a hierarchical series of units on which similar developmental processes are at work, and where each level (shoot, compound leaf, leaflet) is 'repeated' by the next higher level. Measurements related to the expression of developmental processes operating on leaves at the shoot level and on leaflets at the compound leaf level were used to determine if similar processes are at work at these different levels during early stages of organogenesis. Plants with compound leaves showing acropetal leaflet inception, representing a total of 16 species from ten eudicot families, were studied. Based on several types of quantitative analyses, there appears to be a continuum between so-called shoots, compound leaves and leaflets in the species studied.
