The effects of a hot water extract and fractional extracts from rabbiteye blueberry (Vaccinium ashei reade) leaves (BBL) on lipid metabolism were studied in obese Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats. Feeding the hot water extract and fractional extracts from BBL alleviated hepatic triglyceride accumulation in the rats. Additionally, feeding with the flavonol glycoside (FG) and proanthocyanidin (PA) fractions lowered serum cholesterol levels in the obese rats. The results from measurements of the hepatic enzyme activity indicate that the hypolipidemic effects of the hot water extract and the PA fraction might be attributable to enhanced lipolysis in the liver. The reduced serum levels of C-reactive protein, an inflammatory cytokine, by the chlorogenic acid + rutin fraction and FG fraction might be associated with alleviating the metabolic abnormalities in obese rats. These results indicate that the BBL extracts, and especially FG and PA, exerted hypolipidemic effects on obese OLETF rats and suggest that an infusion of BBL can be useful as a dietary hypolipidemic component. 相似文献

Summary The effect of artificial acid rain on the reproduction and survival of the aphid Euceraphis betulae on silver birch was studied in Turku, southern Finland. Eight bioassays were done during 1984–1986. In four of the bioassays the aphids produced 40% to over 100% more progeny on birches watered with dilute sulphuric acid (pH 3.5) than on control trees. In four other cases the performance of aphids did not differ between the treatments. An index of aphid reproduction pooled over the whole study was significantly higher on acid-treated than on control birches. The reproduction of aphids on acid-treated birches was enhanced when precipitation was below long term average, suggesting an interaction between the stress caused by acid treatment and dry periods. 相似文献

The activity of the enzymes 5'-nucleotidase (EC 3.1.3.5), adenosine nucleosidase (EC 3.2.2.7), adenine phosphoribosyl transferase (EC 2.4.2.7) and acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2) was determined in sections of tomato plant ( Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Summary The lipid and sterol content and composition of three lipid fractions (free fatty acids/ sterols, triacylglycerols and sterol/triterpenoid esters) extracted from three stem discs of Pinus sylvestris were assessed to investigate metabolic changes related to heartwood formation. The wood was separated into (1) cambial zone, (2) outer sapwood, (3) inner sapwood, (4) transition zone, (5) outer heartwood and 6) inner heart-wood. The fractions were separated by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and analysed by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). The amount of fatty acids of sapwood triacylglycerols was about 1.5% (dry wt.) but a large reduction occurred in the transition zone. In contrast, noticeable amounts of free fatty acids were present only in the heart-wood. The most important fatty acids in the sapwood fractions were 16:0, 18:0, 18:1, 18:2 (the dominant fatty acid in all fractions), 18:3 and 20:3. Together 18:1 and 18:2 formed about 70% of the total triacylglycerol fatty acids. Of the sterol/ triterpenoid esters, 18:2 and 18:3 were predominant. The fatty acid composition of all fractions changed in the transition zone. The sterols found were sitosterol, stigmastanol, campesterol and campestanol. The amount of sterol esters increased towards the heartwood, and the amount of free sterols was lowest in the inner sapwood. Summary Fathead minnows, Pimephales promelas, and yellow perch, Perca flavescens, were transferred from moderately soft Lake Superior water (hardness 45mg/l as CaCO3) to very soft diluted Lake Superior water (hardness 4.5mg/l). Sulfuric acid was added in some treatments by means of a multichannel diluter. In very soft water, chloride cells proliferated in the gills, especially in the epithelium of the secondary lamellae. When exposed to acid, chloride cells were damaged and less abundant in the secondary lamellae, and blood osmolality was reduced at pH 5.0 (x = 188 mOsm/kg, 9 days exposure; normal 280 mOsm/kg) for the minnows and pH 4.1 (x = 218 mOsm/kg, 58 days exposure; normal 329 mOsm/kg) for the perch. Certain chloride cells which form gland-like clusters in the primary lamellae of perch gills showed little damage even at pH 4.1. The present study supports the view that chloride cells proliferate in very soft fresh water to help maintain ionic balances, and that damage to these cells in acidified soft water may be related to diminished ionoregulatory capacity. The greater acid tolerance of chloride cells of, and the higher blood osmolality maintained by, perch could help to explain the greater tolerance of this species to low pH. In some cases, a species' ability to acclimate to very soft water and acidified soft water may depend upon the number, distribution, and physiology of its chloride cells. 相似文献

Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) were extracted by hot phenol-water from five strains each of Azospirillum lipoferum and Azospirillum brasilense. Rhamnose, glucose, glucosamine and 3-deoxy-d-mannooctulosonic acid were comon sugar constituents of all LPS preparations. 2-O-Mefucose, 3-O-Me-fucose, 3-O-Me-rhamnose and 2-O-Megalactose were found in LPSs of some A. brasilense strains. Fatty acid spectra from all LPSs studied were almost identical with predominance of 3-hydroxymyristic and 3-hydroxypalmitic acids. 3-Hydroxypalmitic acid was the only amide-linked fatty acid. Like other cyanobacteria, Chlorogloeopsis fritschii contained as major lipid classes monogalactosyldiacyl-glycerols, digalactosyldiacylglycerols, sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerols and diacylglycerophosphoglycerols. In addition to these lipid classes this cyanobacterium also contained small amounts of diacylglycerophosphocholines and sterols, predominantly lanosterol, thus showing similarity to photosynthetic eukaryotes. Dark incubated cells contained larger proportions of the latter two lipid classes than light grown cells. Like other prokaryotes, C. fritschii lacked linolenic acid (18:3) in its lipids. Lipids from the thylakoids were richer in palmitoleic acid (16:1) than those of whole cells. There was no effect of light on the patterns of constituent fatty acids of lipids from C. fritschii, in contrast to photosynthetic eukaryotes.Abbreviations MGDG
