Statistical analyses of the relation between the amount of working hours and impairments to health, based on data from a European survey on working conditions in 2000, clearly reveal that there is a substantial correlation between the number of working hours per week and the frequencies of health complaints. This applies to both musculo‐skeletal disorders as well as to psycho‐vegetative complaints. The relationship of the duration of the exposure to working conditions to health impairments is moderated by a great number of individual (e.g., age) and situational (e.g., shift‐work) variables, showing additive or interactive effects for which selected examples have been presented. In general, however, there is a consistent functional relationship between the number or working hours and their effects on the workers that holds over a great variety of conditions. It is argued that requests for extending working hours should thus be handled with care.  相似文献

Arginine vasopressin (AVP) and its nonmammalian homolog arginine vasotocin influence social behaviors ranging from affiliation to resident-intruder aggression. Although numerous sites of action have been established for these behavioral effects, the involvement of specific AVP cell groups in the brain is poorly understood, and socially elicited Fos responses have not been quantified for many of the AVP cell groups found in rodents. Surprisingly, this includes the AVP population in the posterior part of the medial bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BSTMP), which has been extensively implicated, albeit indirectly, in various aspects of affiliation and other social behaviors. We examined the Fos responses of eight hypothalamic and three extra-hypothalamic AVP-immunoreactive (-ir) cell groups to copulation, nonaggressive male-male interaction, and aggressive male-male interaction in both dominant and subordinate C57BL/6J mice. The BSTMP cells exhibited a response profile that was unlike all other cell groups: from a control baseline of ∼ 5% of AVP-ir neurons colocalizing with Fos, colocalization increased significantly to ∼ 12% following nonaggressive male-male interaction, and to ∼ 70% following copulation. Aggressive interactions did not increase colocalization beyond the level observed in nonaggressive male mice. These results suggest that BSTMP neurons in mice may increase AVP-Fos colocalization selectively in response to affiliation-related stimuli, similar to findings in finches. In contrast, virtually all other cell groups were responsive to negative aspects of interaction, either through elevated AVP-Fos colocalization in subordinate animals, positive correlations of AVP-Fos colocalization with bites received, and/or negative correlations of AVP-Fos colocalization with dominance. These findings greatly expand what is known of the contributions of specific brain AVP cell groups to social behavior.  相似文献

Multi-species mating aggregations are crowded environments within which mate recognition must occur. Mating aggregations of fig wasps can consist of thousands of individuals of many species that attain sexual maturity simultaneously and mate in the same microenvironment, i.e, in syntopy, within the close confines of an enclosed globular inflorescence called a syconium – a system that has many signalling constraints such as darkness and crowding. All wasps develop within individual galled flowers. Since mating mostly occurs when females are still confined within their galls, male wasps have the additional burden of detecting conspecific females that are “hidden” behind barriers consisting of gall walls. In Ficus racemosa, we investigated signals used by pollinating fig wasp males to differentiate conspecific females from females of other syntopic fig wasp species. Male Ceratosolen fusciceps could detect conspecific females using cues from galls containing females, empty galls, as well as cues from gall volatiles and gall surface hydrocarbons.In many figs, syconia are pollinated by single foundress wasps, leading to high levels of wasp inbreeding due to sibmating. In F. racemosa, as most syconia contain many foundresses, we expected male pollinators to prefer non-sib females to female siblings to reduce inbreeding. We used galls containing females from non-natal figs as a proxy for non-sibs and those from natal figs as a proxy for sibling females. We found that males preferred galls of female pollinators from natal figs. However, males were undecided when given a choice between galls containing non-pollinator females from natal syconia and pollinator females from non-natal syconia, suggesting olfactory imprinting by the natal syconial environment.  相似文献

Dynamic positron emission tomography (PET) studies provide measurements of the kinetics of radiotracers in living tissue. This is a powerful technology which can play a major role in the study of biological processes, potentially leading to better understanding and treatment of disease. Dynamic PET data relate to complex spatiotemporal processes and its analysis poses significant challenges. In previous work, mixture models that expressed voxel-level PET time course data as a convex linear combination of a finite number of dominant time course characteristics (called sub-TACs) were introduced. This paper extends that mixture model formulation to allow for a weighted combination of scaled sub-TACs and also considers the imposition of local constraints in the number of sub-TACs that can be active at any one voxel. An adaptive 3D scaled segmentation algorithm is developed for model initialization. Increases in the weighted residual sums of squares is used to guide the choice of the number of segments and the number of sub-TACs in the final mixture model. The methodology is applied to five data sets from representative PET imaging studies. The methods are also applicable to other contexts in which dynamic image data are acquired. To illustrate this, data from an echo-planar magnetic resonance (MR) study of cerebral hemodynamics are considered. Our analysis shows little indication of departure from a locally constrained mixture model representation with at most two active components at any voxel. Thus, the primary sources of spatiotemporal variation in representative dynamic PET and MR imaging studies would appear to be accessible to a substantially simplified representation in terms of the generalized locally constrained mixture model introduced.  相似文献

Widefield fluorescence microscopy is seeing dramatic improvements in resolution, reaching today 100 nm in all three dimensions. This gain in resolution is achieved by dispensing with uniform Köhler illumination. Instead, non-uniform excitation light patterns with sinusoidal intensity variations in one, two, or three dimensions are applied combined with powerful image reconstruction techniques. Taking advantage of non-linear fluorophore response to the excitation field, the resolution can be further improved down to several 10 nm. In this review article, we describe the image formation in the microscope and computational reconstruction of the high-resolution dataset when exciting the specimen with a harmonic light pattern conveniently generated by interfering laser beams forming standing waves. We will also discuss extensions to total internal reflection microscopy, non-linear microscopy, and three-dimensional imaging.  相似文献

本文研究H广义线性模型中未知参数的两种估计方法,一种是边际似然函数法,另一种是Lee和Nelder提出来的L-N法.对于一类具有两个随机效应的典型的Poisson-Gamma类模型,在一些正则性条件之下,我们已经证明了其中固定效应卢的L-N估计的强相合性及渐近正态性,并得到了其收敛于真值的速度.针对这类模型,本文进一步给出了其边际似然函数的解析表达式,并且通过Monte Carlo模拟,对模型中固定效应β的边际似然估计和L—N估计进行了比较,模拟表明L—N估计比边际似然估计在拟Poisson-Gamma模型中有着更加优良的表现,具有更高的精度。  相似文献

For the analysis of square contingency tables, this note proposes a multiplicative model imposed more restrictions on CAUSSINUS ' (1965) quasi-symmetry (QS) model. The model is not so strict as in the quasi-double symmetry model considered by TOMIZAWA (1985b). The proposed model has the structure of the QS about the main diagonal plus an extended QS about the reverse diagonal of the square contingency table. The model is applied to the data on unaided vision of students in a university in Japan.  相似文献

Two new organic-inorganic hybrid compounds, {[Cu(2,2′-bipy)2]2(Hbpy)[α-AlW12O40]}·H2O (1) and {[H2en][CuI(4,4′-bipy)]3(α-AlW12O40)}·4H2O (2) (2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine, 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine, py = pyridine, en = ethylene dimine) based on Keggin-type α-[AlW12O40]5− polyoxoaions and transition-metal organoamine subunits, have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TG), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In addition, the electrochemical properties and photocatalytic activity of compound 1 were studied. The structural analysis reveals that 1 shows a 1D infinite chain structure constructed from [α-AlW12O40]5− polyoxoanions and {[CuII(2,2′-bipy)2][CuII(2,2′-bipy)(py)]}4+ fragments, in which the remarkable aspect is that [α-AlW12O40]5− polyoxoanion is modified in a fascinating symmetrical mode. Compound 2 displays an unprecedented 2D extended structure constructed from [α-AlW12O40]5− polyoxoanions and 4,4′-bipy-CuI-4,4′-bipy linear chains, in which three - chain belts formed by three linear chains arranged Cu parallel connect alternately with [α-AlW12O40]5− polyoxoanions. As far as we know, compounds 1 and 2 represent the first 1D and 2D extended hybrid materials constructed from 3d transition metals and polyoxotungstoaluminates linked through covalent bonds.  相似文献
