The development of a heavy phytoplankton bloom (chl. a = 360 mg/m3), which occurred in the summer 1983 in a shallow reservoir, Divor, is described. The study shows that remobilization of phosphate from the sediment was initiating the phytoplankton bloom. This was confirmed not only by calculations of the change in iron-phosphate pool, but also supported by sorption experiments carried out with the sediment. It is discussed that turbidity of the water due to suspended matter caused the reduction in standing stock of phytoplankton to approx. 50 mg chl. a/m3 in late summer. 相似文献

Chilina gibbosa is an endemic snail widely distributed in Patagonia, Argentina. Due to its importance in the benthic fauna and in the diet
of some fish in the oligo-mesotrophic reservoir Ezequiel Ramos Mexía (39° 30′ S, 69° 00′ W), special attention has been given
to its life cycle, growth patterns and annual production. Samples were taken monthly at five littoral stations between June
1983 and July 1984.
Mean abundance and biomass of C. gibbosa were much higher in vegetated stations dominated by Potamogeton berteroanus (Station 1 : 583 ind. m−2, 5.95 g AFDM m−2) or by Nitella clavata (Station 5 : 275 ind. m−2, 4.18 g AFDM m−2) than bare stations with low transparency or stations with other macrophytes. The snails presented a clustered spatial pattern
and their abundance was significantly correlated with macrophyte wet biomass only when this was above 250 g m−2. Analysis of size distributions showed an annual life cycle with a reproductive period in the summer. However, differences
in recruitment and growth occurred probably due to differences in water temperature and food availability. Growth was maximum
in summer and almost absent during winter. Hence, shell growth data fit a sigmoid curve well, and growth was somewhat higher
at Station 1. Annual production at Stations 1 and 5, estimated by the ‘growth increment summation’ method (28.8 g AFDM m−2 and 14.18 g AFDM m−2 respectively), was among the highest recorded for pulmonate gastropods, possibly due to a low interspecific competition.
The P : B ratio values were within the range for univoltine gastropods (4.84 and 3.39).
The high productivity and turnover rate of these snails grant a high availability of food for the abundant molluscivore, the

The paper assesses the impact of the Jeziorsko dam reservoir on chironomid assemblages and selected environmental factors in the Warta River, Poland, by means of patterns recognized with the self-organizing map (SOM, Kohonen unsupervised artificial neural network). Over 1988–1996, in four annual cycles, a total of 233 monthly samples were collected in a seven order section of the river at two sites: WAA (backwater) located about 2 km upstream from the Jeziorsko Reservoir, and WAB (tailwater) located about 1.5 km downstream from the reservoir's dam. At each site three habitats were selected: H1, H2 and H3 at WAA, and H11, H12 and H13 at WAB. H1 and H11 were located in the depositional area close to the banks, H2 and H12 about 6–7 m towards the mid-river and H3 and H13 in the mid-river. SOM effectively vertically separated H1 and H11 (bank habitats) from H3 and H13 (the mid-river zone of both sites) and H2 (the transition zone of the upstream site). The H12 samples were scattered all over SOM but still exhibited a slight temporal gradient. At the end of the study the water discharge, especially in summers, stabilized at WAB at a level lower than natural and as a result submerged macrophytes appeared at H12 making the abundance of macroinvertebrates increase very quickly. Moreover, a weaker horizontal grouping of samples by season and by site of collection (upstream or downstream from the reservoir) was observed over SOM: 1) bank upstream habitat H1, with hydrological regime resembling natural, was separated from the downstream H11, which enlarged and contracted in response to dam operation, 2) deeper habitats were less dependent on water level and this is why they underwent seasonal fluctuations. To sum up, the deepest habitats were most resistant to water level fluctuations, while the formerly most productive habitat at the tailwater WAB site, H11, became the most negatively impacted. Nevertheless, the reservoir has not negatively influenced chironomid density, because the latter increased closer the mid-river, at H12, where large patches of macrophytes developed. 相似文献

Heavy metals' contamination in sediments of Wadi Al-Aqiq water reservoir dam at Al-Baha region,KSA: Their identification and assessment 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Sediments are the ultimate sump for heavy metal pollutants. The main purpose was to investigate the ecological and health risk assessment of heavy metals in the sediments of Wadi Al-Aqiq water reservoir. The metals detected were arranged in decreasing order Fe > Mn > Cr > Cu > Zn > Ni > Co > Pb. Pearson correlation analysis indicated strong positive association and significant linear relation between various pairs of metals. Different evaluation indices used indicated that source of contamination from lithogenic sources and sediments can be classified as low polluted quality. A comparison of the concentrations of metals with International Sediment Quality Guidelines criteria showed that only Cu and Ni concentrations above the ERL and below the ERM guideline values suggest possible adverse effects. On comparing with US Environmental Protection Agency prepared sediment quality criteria it indicated that Pb and Zn have concentrations below the non-polluted criteria, Fe, Mn, and Ni lies in the range of moderately polluted criteria, and Co and Cu are within the heavily polluted criteria. Non-carcinogenic risk quantification indicated health concern from ingestion route and no health effects for dermal exposure. On considering additive effect, the dermal exposure may cause health harm. The carcinogenic risk assessment for lead and chromium showed an acceptable risk to human health. 相似文献

It is a challenge to quantitatively distinguish active from dormant microbial populations in environmental samples. Here we present an approach for estimating the abundance of dormant sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), present as viable endospores in environmental samples. This is achieved by inducing endospores to germinate and grow exponentially. We demonstrate this approach for thermophilic SRB in temperate sediment from Aarhus Bay, Denmark. The approach is based on measuring bulk sulfate reduction rates (SRRs) in pasteurized sediment and calculating associated cell-specific SRRs based on average values for SRB growth yield and cell size known from exponentially growing pure cultures. The method presented is a faster bioassay than most probable number enumerations and has the potential to distinguish between slow- and fast-growing SRB populations in the same sample. This bioassay is attractive given the challenges posed by endospores with respect to cell permeabilization and lysis, which are prerequisite in quantitative microscopy- and nucleic acid extraction-based strategies. These molecular approaches additionally rely on designing target-appropriate oligonucleotide probes, whereas the method presented here considers the trait of interest more broadly. This strategy thus presents a useful complement to other methods in ecological investigations of microbial biogeography and for specific industrial applications such as reservoir souring and corrosion risk assessments in the oil and gas sector. 相似文献

【目的】新疆油田六中区为典型水驱普通稠油油藏,水驱效果较差,油藏具有丰富的内源微生物,本研究通过分析内源微生物驱油对油藏微生物活动的影响,确定内源微生物驱油技术在该类油藏的应用潜力。【方法】采用高通量测序及分析化学技术,系统研究实施内源微生物驱油技术后油藏细菌群落结构组成、细菌总数和功能菌群的浓度以及采出液的流体性质,总结内源微生物驱油对油藏微生物活动的影响。【结果】现场试验注入激活剂和空气后,内源微生物被显著激活,细菌群落结构发生明显变化,细菌总数及功能菌群浓度普遍提高了2–3个数量级;各种内源微生物代谢活动显著增强,与地层流体相互作用后,原油明显被乳化,最终石油采收率提高5.2%。【结论】对于内源微生物较为丰富的水驱普通稠油油藏,内源微生物驱油技术对油藏微生物活动的影响显著,具有显著的技术优势和较大的应用潜力,微生物群落结构、功能菌群浓度及其相关代谢产物可以作为评价内源微生物驱油现场激活效果的重要指标,为其他内源微生物驱油现场试验提供技术参考。 相似文献

Seasonal and spatial variations in bacterial abundance, biomass and production in a recently flooded reservoir were followed
for 2 consecutive years, in conjunction with phytoplankton biomass (chlorophyll a) and activity (primary production). Between the 2 years of the study, the mean value of primary production remained constant,
while those of the chlorophyll a concentration, bacterial abundance (BA), bacterial biomass (BB) and bacterial production (BP) decreased. The observed trends
of the bacterial variables were linked to changes in the relative importance of allochthonous dissolved organic matter. Moreover,
this factor would explain discrepancies observed between the slope of the model II regression equations established from results
of the present study and those of the predictive models from the literature, relating to bacterial and phytoplankton variables.
An estimate of the carbon budget indicated that 22 and 5% of the ambient primary production in the Sep Reservoir might be
channeled through the microbial loop via BP during the 1st and 2nd year of the study, respectively. We conclude that heterotrophic
BP in the Sep Reservoir may, on occasion, represent a significant source of carbon for higher order consumers. 相似文献

Crustacean zooplankton abundance and composition were determined at one offshore and three nearshore sites in the hypertrophic Rietvlei Dam on 19 dates between July 2009 and December 2011. Total biomass fluctuated seasonally, generally declining from spring to winter through the annual cycle, but also appeared to decline progressively through the study. On overall average, total biomass was high (0.51 mg l–1 or 2.39 g m–2 DW), with Daphnia accounting for ~40%. Total volumetric biomass was invariably higher in shallow nearshore than offshore locations (average time-paired ratio = 8.1), with comparably large-bodied Daphnia (geometric mean ~1.2 mm, largest individuals ~1.75 mm) in both habitats, contra-indicating substantive opportunistic zooplanktivory by juvenile fish. Zooplankton was dominated numerically (ind. l–1, overall average values) by cyclopoid copepods, mostly Thermocyclops (47.1 nauplii and 86.5 copepodites), plausibly favoured by their selective raptorial feeding mode. Cladoceran densities were lower — Daphnia (25.0), Bosmina (7.1), Ceriodaphnia (2.9) and sporadically occurring Moina and Chydorus (<0.5). Seasonal replacement of Daphnia by small-bodied cladocerans during late summer and into autumn was evident in near-monthly samples between July 2009 and June 2010. The findings reflect negligible zooplanktivory in Rietvlei, ruling out top-down biomanipulation prospects for its remedial management. 相似文献

Insect abundance and diversity are declining worldwide. Although recent research found freshwater insect populations to be increasing in some regions, there is a critical lack of data from tropical and subtropical regions. Here, we examine a 20-year monitoring dataset of freshwater insects from a subtropical floodplain comprising a diverse suite of rivers, shallow lakes, channels and backwaters. We found a pervasive decline in abundance of all major insect orders (Odonata, Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Megaloptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and Diptera) and families, regardless of their functional role or body size. Similarly, Chironomidae species richness decreased over the same time period. The main drivers of this pervasive insect decline were increased concurrent invasions of non-native insectivorous fish, water transparency and changes to water stoichiometry (i.e. N : P ratios) over time. All these drivers represent human impacts caused by reservoir construction. This work sheds light on the importance of long-term studies for a deeper understanding of human-induced impacts on aquatic insects. We highlight that extended anthropogenic impact monitoring and mitigation actions are pivotal in maintaining freshwater ecosystem integrity. 相似文献
