A surveillance of trombiculid mites was conducted by collecting wild small mammals twice a year (spring and autumn seasons) at 24 localities in Korea from 2005 to 2007 to clarify the nationwide distribution of scrub typhus vectors. Among 783 trapped rodents, Apodemus agrarius accounted for 87.4% and the trapping rate at riverside was recorded the highest. A total of 67,325 mites representing 4 genera and 14 species were collected and their chigger index (C. I.) was 86.0. The predominant species were Leptotrombidium pallidum (52.6%), L. scutellare (27.1%), L. palpale (8.2%), L. orientale (5.6%), and Neotrombicula tamiyai (1.7%). However, the portion of L. scutellare in southern area including endemic provinces such as Jeollabuk‐Do (34.3%), Jeollanam‐Do (49.0%), and Gyeongsangnam‐Do (88%) were relatively higher than middle areas where L. pallidum was predominant in. Additionally, in autumn season, the density of L. scutellare was increased up to 42.0% while that of L. pallidum was decrease to 37.6%. Now we are performing a periodic surveillance again (2011~2013) and trying to develop a method to identify these trombiculid mites using molecular markers. 相似文献

Honey bee [Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae)] genetic diversity may be the key to responding to novel health challenges faced by this important pollinator. In this study, we first compared colonies of four honey bee races, A. m. anatoliaca, A. m. carnica, A. m. caucasica, and A. m. syriaca from Turkey, with respect to honey storage, bee population size, and defenses against varroa. The mite Varroa destructor Anderson & Trueman (Acari: Varroidae) is an important pest of honey bee colonies. There are genetic correlates with two main defenses of bees against this parasite: hygienic behavior, or removing infested brood, and grooming, which involves shaking and swiping off mites and biting them. In the second part of this study, we examined the relationship of these two types of defenses, hygiene and grooming, and their correlation with infestation rates in 32 genetically diverse colonies in a ‘common garden’ apiary. The predatory phytoseiid mite Amblyseius swirskii (Athias-Henriot) completed its lifespan when fed on females of the broad mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks). The development was the quickest and the number of prey consumed was highest when individuals were reared at 28?°C compared with 19?°C. The average number of eggs/female/day was 2.36 and 1.69, respectively. Life table parameters showed that the population of A. swirskii multiplied 16 and 20 times in a generation time of 22 and 18?days at 19 and 28?°C, respectively. Under these conditions, the intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was 0.139 and 0.170 individuals/female/day, respectively. 相似文献

Life history and prey consumption of the predatory stigmaeid mite Agistemus olivi Romeih, as affected by feeding on the motile stages of the olive bud mite Aceria oleae Nalepa and the olive rust mite Tegolophus hassani Keifer (Acari : Eriophyidae), has been studied for the first time at different temperatures and 70–75% r.h. A greater capability was shown for consuming the olive bud mite than the olive rust mite and the former prey relatively induced more fecundity. The rise of different temperatures from 20°C to 25°C and 30°C shortened development and increased reproduction and prey consumption. The maximum reproduction (6.92 and 6.08 eggs ♀ day) was recorded at the higher temperature, while the minimum reproduction (1.50 and 1.30 eggs ♀ day) was observed for A. oleae and T. hassani, respectively. 相似文献

Abstract The acaricidal potential of fourteen essential oils and fourteen of their major monoterpenoids were tested against the Two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae. Two different time intervals of 24 and 48 hrs were used in evaluation. The assays after 24 hrs showed that mattercary, fennel, caraway, garlic, cinnamon, chenopodium and eucalyptus were highly potent. As for monoterpenoids, chlorothymol was found to be the most effective against T. urticae followed by thymol, carvacrol and cinnamaldehyde. 相似文献

The persea mite, Oligonychus perseae Tuttle, Baker & Abbatiello (Acari: Tetranychidae), a pest of avocado, was first discovered in Israel in the autumn of 2001. It has since spread to most avocado growing areas in Israel. To establish an economic injury level (EIL), based on the percentage of leaf area damaged (PLAD), we conducted an extensive field study. For three consecutive seasons we created distinct pest infestation levels on the Hass avocado cv., by applying acaricides (spirodiclofen and abamectin) at 50, 100, and 250 mites per leaf levels, along with non‐sprayed controls in a replicated block design. At harvest time we evaluated the level of leaf damage and fruit yields across treatments. In two out of the 3 years, trees sprayed at 50 and 100 mites per leaf levels had similar PLAD values, differing from trees treated at the 250 mites per leaf level and the non‐treated control, the latter pair also being similar. Over the 3 years, mean yield attained at the two higher infestation levels was reduced by 20% in comparison to the mean yields recorded for plots sprayed at the lower thresholds. Accordingly, we suggest that scouts adopt an action threshold (AT) of 50–100 mites per leaf. Future research is needed to refine this AT. Mean annual cumulative mite days (CMDs) of the two higher levels was ca. 13500 ± 700 per leaf. Using the linear regression equation PLAD = 0.0009CMDs + 2.42, describing leaf damage as a function of CMDs, we estimated an EIL of ca. 15 PLAD. 相似文献

Varroa tolerance as a consequence of host immunity may contribute substantially to reduce worldwide colony declines. Therefore, special breeding programs were established and varroa surviving populations investigated to understand mechanisms behind this adaptation. The aim of this study was to investigate the reproductive capacity in the three most common subspecies of the European honey bee (Carnica, Mellifera, Ligustica) and the F2 generation of a varroa surviving population, to identify if managed host populations possibly have adapted over time already. Both, singly infested drone and worker brood were assessed to determine fertility and fecundity of varroa foundresses in their respective group. We found neither parameter to be significantly different within the four subspecies, demonstrating that no adaptations have occurred in terms of the reproductive success of Varroa destructor. In all groups mother mites reproduce equally successful and are potentially able to cause detrimental damage to their host when not being treated sufficiently. The data further suggests that a population once varroa tolerant does not necessarily inherit this trait to following generations after the F1, which could be of particular interest when selecting populations for resistance breeding. Membrane-bound, pyrroloquinoline quinone-dependent, alcohol dehydrogenase functions as the primary dehydrogenase in the respiratory chain of acetic acid bacteria. In this study, an ability of the enzyme to directly react with ubiquinone was investigated in alcohol dehydrogenases purified from both Acetobacter aceti and Gluconobacter suboxydans by two different approaches. First, it was shown that the enzymes are able to reduce natural ubiquinones, ubiquinone-9 or -t0, in a detergent solution as well as a soluble short-chain homologue, ubiquinone-I. In order to show the reactivity of the enzyme with natural ubiquinone in a native membrane environment, furthermore, alcohol dehydrogenase was reconstituted into proteoliposomes together with natural ubiquinone and a terminal ubiquinol oxidase. The reconstitution was done by binding the detergent-free dehydrogenase at room temperature to proteoliposomes that had been prepared in advance from a ubiquinol oxidase and phospholipids containing ubiquinone by detergent dialysis using octyl-β-D-glucopyranoside; the enzyme of A. aceti was reconstituted together with ubiquinone-9 and A. aceti cytochrome a1 while G. suboxydans alcohol dehydrogenase was done into proteoliposomes containing ubiquinone-10 and G. suboxydans cytochrome o. The proteoliposomes thus reconstituted had a reasonable level of ethanol oxidase activity, the electron transfer reaction of which was also able to generate a ‘membrane potential. Thus, it has been shown that alcohol dehydrogenase of acetic acid bacteria donates electrons directly to ubiquinone in the cytoplasmic membranes and thus the ethanol oxidase respiratory chain of acetic acid bacteria is constituted of only three membranous respiratory components, alcohol dehydrogenase, ubiquinone, and terminal ubiquinol oxidase. 相似文献

Spatial and temporal characteristics of host plants can influence the population biology of the herbivores feeding on them. In this study, I examined the effect of variation in host plant characteristics on the development of acaricide resistance in the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae, a widely distributed agricultural pest. This investigation examined the geographic variation in the degree of resistance to two new types of acaricide, pyridaben and fenpyroximate. From mortality tests at field-level concentrations of the acaricides, many populations collected from fruit trees and roses had a high frequency of resistant individuals for acaricides while almost all populations collected from herbaceous crops had low frequencies of resistant individuals. These results, combined with those from a previous allozyme study, indicate that patch size and persistence of host plants regulate the population structure of the mites including gene flow between populations and, by extension, the development of acaricide resistance. 相似文献
