Achieving high oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity while maintaining performance stability is a key challenge for designing perovskite structure oxide OER catalysts, which are often unstable in alkaline environments transforming into an amorphous phase. While the chemical and structural transformation occurring during electrolysis at the electrolyte–catalyst interface is now regarded as a crucial factor influencing OER activity, here, using La0.7Sr0.3CoO3?δ (LSCO) as an active OER catalyst, the critical influence of buried layers on the oxidation current stability in nanoscopically thin, chemically and structurally evolving, catalyst layers is revealed. The use of epitaxial thin films is demonstrated to engineer both depletion layer widths and chemical stability of the catalyst support structure resulting in heterostructured anodes that maintain facile transport kinetics across the electrolyte–anode interface for atomically thin (2–3 unit cells) LSCO catalyst layers and greatly enhanced oxidation current stability as the perovskite structure OER catalysts chemically and structurally transform. This work opens up an approach to design robust and active heterostructured anodes with dynamically evolving ultrathin OER electrocatalyst layers for future green fuel technologies such as conformal coatings of high‐density 3D anode topologies for water splitting.  相似文献

With power conversion efficiencies now exceeding 25%, hybrid perovskite solar cells require deeper understanding of defects and processing to further approach the Shockley‐Queisser limit. One approach for processing enhancement and defect reduction involves additive engineering—, e.g., addition of MASCN (MA = methylammonium) and excess PbI2 have been shown to modify film grain structure and improve performance. However, the underlying impact of these additives on transport and recombination properties remains to be fully elucidated. In this study, a newly developed carrier‐resolved photo‐Hall (CRPH) characterization technique is used that gives access to both majority and minority carrier properties within the same sample and over a wide range of illumination conditions. CRPH measurements on n‐type MAPbI3 films reveal an order of magnitude increase in carrier recombination lifetime and electron density for 5% excess PbI2 added to the precursor solution, with little change noted in electron and hole mobility values. Grain size variation (120–2100 nm) and MASCN addition induce no significant change in carrier‐related parameters considered, highlighting the benign nature of the grain boundaries and that excess PbI2 must predominantly passivate bulk defects rather than defects situated at grain boundaries. This study offers a unique picture of additive impact on MAPbI3 optoelectronic properties as elucidated by the new CRPH approach.  相似文献

Two types of all‐small‐molecule ternary solar cells consisting of two small‐molecule donors and one acceptor (fullerene/non‐fullerene) are developed. Interestingly, both these devices have a common component: a carefully designed medium bandgap small molecule, which possesses appropriate energy levels and displays good compatibility with the host donor. In the fullerene system, the charge‐relaying role of the additive donor is confirmed by the improved charge transportation and suppressed charge recombination. While in the non‐fullerene system, the mixed face‐on and edge‐on orientation of the ternary film induced by the additive donor dominates the promotion of charge transportation. Accordingly, both ternary devices deliver higher short‐circuit current density, fill factor, and power conversion efficiencies of over 10% compared to binary ones. This work offers a promising guideline on the construction of high‐performance all‐small‐molecule ternary solar cells by incorporating a miscible small‐molecule donor.  相似文献

Open‐circuit voltage (VOC) losses in organic photovoltaics (OPVs) inhibit devices from reaching VOC values comparable to the bandgap of the donor–acceptor blend. Specifically, nonradiative recombination losses (?Vnr) are much greater in OPVs than in silicon or perovskite solar cells, yet the origins of this are not fully understood. To understand what makes a system have high or low loss, an investigation of the nonradiative recombination losses in a total of nine blend systems is carried out. An apparent relationship is observed between the relative domain purity of six blends and the degree of nonradiative recombination loss, where films exhibiting relatively less pure domains show lower ?Vnr than films with higher domain purity. Additionally, it is shown that when paired with a fullerene acceptor, polymer donors which have bulky backbone units to inhibit close π–π stacking exhibit lower nonradiative recombination losses than in blends where the polymer can pack more closely. This work reports a strategy that ensures ?Vnr can be measured accurately and reports key observations on the relationship between ?Vnr and properties of the donor/acceptor interface.  相似文献

Here, it is investigated whether an energetic cascade between mixed and pure regions assists in suppressing recombination losses in non‐fullerene acceptor (NFA)‐based organic solar cells. The impact of polymer‐NFA blend composition upon morphology, energetics, charge carrier recombination kinetics, and photocurrent properties are studied. By changing film composition, morphological structures are varied from consisting of highly intermixed polymer‐NFA phases to consisting of both intermixed and pure phase. Cyclic voltammetry is employed to investigate the impact of blend morphology upon NFA lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level energetics. Transient absorption spectroscopy reveals the importance of an energetic cascade between mixed and pure phases in the electron–hole dynamics in order to well separate spatially localized electron–hole pairs. Raman spectroscopy is used to investigate the origin of energetic shift of NFA LUMO levels. It appears that the increase in NFA electron affinity in pure phases relative to mixed phases is correlated with a transition from a relatively planar backbone structure of NFA in pure, aggregated phases, to a more twisted structure in molecularly mixed phases. The studies focus on addressing whether aggregation‐dependent acceptor LUMO level energetics are a general design requirement for both fullerene and NFAs, and quantifying the magnitude, origin, and impact of such energetic shifts upon device performance.  相似文献

A kinetic model accounting for all salient features of the Na+ channel of the squid giant axon is provided. The model furnishes explanations for the Cole-Moore-like effect, the rising phase of the ON gating current and the slow ‘intermediate component’ of its decaying phase, as well as the gating charge immobilization. Experimental ON ionic currents are semi-quantitatively simulated by the use of only three free parameters, upon assuming that the Na+ channel opening proceeds along with the stepwise aggregation of its four domains, while they are moving their gating charge outward under depolarizing conditions. The inactivation phase of the ON ionic current is interpreted by a progressive electrostatic attraction between the positively charged ‘hinged lid’ containing the hydrophobic IFM triad and its receptor inside the channel pore, as the stepwise outward movement of the S4 segments of the Na+ channel progressively increases the negative charge attracting the triad to its receptor. The Na+ channel closing is assumed to proceed by repolarization-induced disaggregation of its domains, accompanied by inward movement of their gating charge. The phenomenon of ‘gating charge immobilization’ can be explained by assuming that gradual structural changes of the receptor over the time course of depolarization strengthen the interaction between the IFM triad and its receptor, causing a slow release of the gating charge during the subsequent repolarization.  相似文献

Efficient light harvesting in a photosynthetic antenna system is disturbed by a ragged and fluctuating energy landscape of the antenna pigments in response to the conformation dynamics of the protein. This situation is especially pronounced in Photosystem I (PSI) containing red shifted chlorophylls (red Chls) with the excitation energy much lower than the primary donor. The present study was conducted to clarify light-harvesting dynamics of PSI isolated from Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 by using single-molecule spectroscopy at liquid?nitrogen temperatures. Fluorescence emission at around 720?nm from the red Chls in single PSI trimers was monitored at 80–100?K. Intermittent variations in the emission intensities, so-called blinking, were frequently observed. Its time scale lay in several tens of seconds. The blinking amplitude depended on the redox state of the phylloquinone (A1). Electrochromic shifts of Chls induced by the negative charge on A1 were calculated based on the X-ray crystallographic structure. A Chl molecule, Chl-A839 (numbering according to PDB 5OY0), bound near A1 was found to have a large electrochromic shift. This Chl has strong exciton coupling with neighboring Chl (A838) whose site energy was predicted to be determined by interaction with an arginine residue (ArgF84) [Adolphs et al., 2010]. A possible scenario of the blinking was proposed. Conformational fluctuations of ArgF84 seesaw the excitation-energy of Chl-A838, which perturbs the branching ratio of excitation-energy between the red Chl and the cationic form of P700 as a quencher. The electrochromic shift of Chl-A839 enhances the effect of the conformation dynamics of ArgF84.  相似文献

Calcium signalling through store-operated calcium (SOC) entry is of crucial importance for T-cell activation and the adaptive immune response. This entry occurs via the prototypic Ca2+ release-activated Ca2+ (CRAC) channel. STIM1, a key molecular component of this process, is located in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and is initially activated upon Ca2+ store depletion. This activation signal is transmitted to the plasma membrane via a direct physical interaction that takes place between STIM1 and the highly Ca2+-selective ion channel Orai1. The activation of STIM1 induces an extended cytosolic conformation. This, in turn, exposes the CAD/SOAR domain and leads to the formation of STIM1 oligomers. In this study, we focused on a small helical segment (STIM1 α3, aa 400–403), which is located within the CAD/SOAR domain. We determined this segment’s specific functional role in terms of STIM1 activation and Orai1 gating. The STIM1 α3 domain appears not essential for STIM1 to interact with Orai1. Instead, it represents a key domain that conveys STIM1 interaction into Orai1 channel gating. The results of cysteine crosslinking experiments revealed the close proximity of STIM1 α3 to a region within Orai1, which was located at the cytosolic extension of transmembrane helix 3, forming a STIM1-Orai1 gating interface (SOGI). We suggest that the interplay between STIM1 α3 and Orai1 TM3 allows STIM1 coupling to be transmitted into physiological CRAC channel activation.  相似文献
