The population of bream in L. Peipsi was studied with respect to age, growth rate, condition factor (according to Fulton) and length-weight relationship in 1994. That autumn the bream population in L. Peipsi consisted of fishes aged from 0+ to 15+. During the first year bream reached an average body length of 7.9 cm (the commercial legal size (30 cm) was usually attained by the end of the 5th–6th year. The condition of bream in this lake was above the average of Estonian lakes. The relatively good growth rate and condition of bream in the lake indicates that the waterbody is appropriate for this fish. 相似文献

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has been recognized as a potent antitumor agent in animal tumor models; however, its use in human
cancer therapy has been limited to only one trial, in which LPS from Salmonella was given intravenously. It was not very successful because of poor tumor response and was also toxic. We originally developed
LPS prepared from Pantoea agglomerans (LPSp), and this was a well-purified, small-molecular-mass (5 kDa) agent. We chose intradermal rather than intravenous administration
in the hope that the former would release LPS slowly into the bloodstream, and thus be less toxic while preserving antitumor
activity. In our animal tumor models, intradermal administration was indeed less toxic and more beneficial for tumor regression
than intravenous administration. We made a pilot study with intradermal administration of LPSp on the treatment of ten advanced
cancer patients. Five of them had evaluable tumor, which had failed earlier to respond to conventional chemotherapy. Cyclophosphamide
was also administered in this trial, in anticipation of its synergistic effect with LPSp. In this study LPSp was injected
intradermally into each patient twice a week, starting with an initial dose of 0.4 ng/kg, and raising it to 600 or 1800 ng/kg.
A 400-mg/m2 dose of cyclophosphamide was given intravenously every 2 weeks. After completion of the dose escalation, the treatment was
continued for at least 4 months, and it was found that 1800 ng/kg LPSp was well tolerated. A significant level of cytokines
was observed in the sera for at least 8 h. These results indicate higher tolerable doses and remarkably more continuous induction
of the cytokines than were reported in a previous study by others using intravenous administration. Three of the five evaluable
tumors showed a significant response to our combined therapy. Intradermally administered, LPS was less toxic and elicited
a tumor response in combination with cyclophosphamide; it can thus can be applied to cancer treatment even in humans.

Fungal spore populations in the outdoor and indoor atmosphere of Ismailia have been studied during the period from March 1992
to May 1993. A total of 23 350 cfu and 73 species were recorded,Cladosporium cladosporioides, Aureobasidium pullulans andAspergillus flavus were the most abundant. The indoor and outdoor mycoflora showed marked quantitative and qualitative differences. In view
of count, recorded species could be categorized into three groups as follows: (a) species showing higher counts in out- than
indoor, (b) species showing the opposite trend i.e. lower counts in out-door than indoor, (c) species showing approximately
equal counts in out- and indoor. Regarding seasonal periodicity, March and either September or October showed the highest
count for both normal fungal flora (NFF) and opportunistic fungal flora (OFF). While January and July showed the lowest count

Reactivation of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) occurred rapidly in cells of latently infected adult mouse trigeminal ganglia which were cultured in serum-free medium in the presence of sufficient nerve growth factor (NGF). However, HSV-1 reactivation was delayed significantly in ganglionic cultures in the absence of exogenous NGF or in cultures treated with 2-aminopurine in the presence of NGF. The delayed viral reactivation in ganglionic cultures without NGF was accelerated by treatment with phorbol myristate acetate or dibutyryl cyclic AMP. Abstract: Chromosomal DNA from Bacillus subtilis , bound on the clay minerals, montmorillonite (Wyoming (W) and Apache County (Ap)) and kaolinite (K), was subjected to the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. DNA bound on the clays was not amplified with 0.625, 1.875, 6.25, and 12.5 U of Taq DNA polymerase, but amplification occurred when the clay-DNA complexes were diluted 10- and 20-fold or when 21 U of Taq DNA polymerase was added. DNA desorbed from the Ap-DNA and K-DNA equilibrium complexes was amplified with 0.625 U of Taq DNA polymerase, whereas amplification of DNA desorbed from the W-DNA complex occurred only after a 10-fold dilution or when 1.875 U of Taq DNA polymerase was used. These observations indicate that clay minerals differentially affect the amplification process, probably by inhibiting the activity of Taq DNA polymerase. 相似文献

The effect of transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF1) expression on fatty acid binding proteins was examined in control and two strains of gene targeted TGF1-deficient mice. Homozygous TGF1-deficient 129 × CF-1, expressing multifocal inflammatory syndrome, had 25% less liver fatty acid binding protein (L-FABP) when compared to control mice. The decrease in L-FABP expression was not due to multifocal inflammatory syndrome since homozygous TGF1-deficient/immunodeficient C3H mice on a SLID background had 36% lower liver L-FABP than controls. This effect was developmentally related and specific to liver, but not the proximal intestine, where L-FABP is also expressed. Finally, the proximal intestine also expresses intestinal-FABP (1-FABP) which decreased 3-fold in the TGF1-deficient/immunodeficient C3H mice only. Thus, TGF1 appears to regulate the expression of L-FABP and I-FABP in the liver and the proximal intestine, respectively.Abbreviations L-FABP
