Sedimentary records of accelerated nutrient loading in Florida lakes   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Transfer functions relating trophic state (Carlson's TSIchlorophyll-a) to present day accumulation rate of (1) nutrients, (2) cations, and (3) organic sediment, are computed using Binford's 210Pb-dilution method. As computed from surficial sediments of 27 lakes, former trophic states are reconstructed for recent (210Pb-dated) sedimentary histories of 14 lakes. Of the three kinds of models potentially available, model (3) (TSI vs. organic accumulation) is the weakest statistically, and may be unduly influenced by exceptional deposition and/or preservation of allochthonous organic matter. At present, however, it is the only model applicable to all 14 of the histories tested. Results are encouraging in that model accurately predicts observed TSI's in several mesotrophic and eutrophic lakes. Clearly significant increases (accelerations) are inferred only for a of the most eutrophic lakes of the set, while the model consistently overpredicts TSI's of the 7 most oligotrophic lakes. As Whitmore's diatom-assemblage index is a better predictor of TSI than is model (3) in the one eutrophic lake in which it has been tested, we expect more persuasive results when models (1) and (2) can be tested within a more complete set of analytical data. We were surprised to find 3 severely disturbed lakes among the 12 that show little or no acceleration in rate of eutrophication in recent decades, but we defer attempts at explanation until former nutrient loading can be tested by model (1).  相似文献

用DPH和ANS标记大鼠肝线粒体内膜,以稳态荧光偏振法,研究了呼吸链底物和抑制剂对内膜流动性的影响。1.苹果酸+谷氨酸、琥珀酸分别为底物,均能引起内膜流动性增加。2.琥珀酸对含心磷脂的脂质体的膜流动性无影响。3.在鱼藤酮存在的条件下,苹果酸+谷氨酸对内膜流动性的增加作用消失,但琥珀酸的作用仍然存在。有氰化钾时则琥珀酸的作用消失。4.不论外加底物存在与否,鱼藤酮使内膜的流动性下降,而氰化钾则使之增加。抗霉素A亦可使内膜的流动性增加。上述结果表明:线粒体内膜流动性与其功能密切相关。电子沿呼吸链传递使线粒体内膜流动性增加,这种变化可能与呼吸链成分的氧化还原态有关。  相似文献

Genetic drug-resistance markers were transferred via purified metaphase chromosomes from mouse L cells into the human fibrosarcoma line HT1080 and HeLa S3 cells. Interspecific chromosome-mediated transfer of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase (HGPRT; EC 2.4.2.8) from mouse L cells into HGPRT HT1080 cells occurred at a frequency of approximately 1×10–7. The presence of the mouse allele for HGPRT in transferent isolates was confirmed by isoelectric focusing. Transfer of ouabain resistance from mouse L cells to HT1080 and HeLa S3 cells occurred at an average frequency of approximately 4×10–7. Expression of the mouse trait in transferent isolates was confirmed by their ability to withstand doses of ouabain which would be lethal to spontaneous ouabain-resistant mutants of the human cells but not to mouse L cells. Ouabain-resistant transferents of human cells showed 104- to >105-fold enhanced drug resistance, characteristic of either wild-type or mutant alleles, respectively, from ouabain-resistant donor L cells. Unstable expression of the transferred phenotypes in the absence of selection was seen in some isolates, but expression was lost at slow rates.This work was supported by National Institutes of Health Grant GM30383/21665 to RMB, Core Grants CA14051 to S. A range of heteropentalene and bipyridinium compounds have been tested as catalysts of electron transfer to oxygen from spinach ferredoxin-NADP+ oxidoreductase reduced by NADPH. For a particular class of compound, the rate of oxygen reduction increased with increasing midpoint potential of the compound under conditions in which reduction of the compound was rate-limiting. Compounds with similar midpoint potentials from different structural classes showed marked differences in rate, attributed to specificity in the interaction with ferredoxin-NADP+ oxidoreductase.  相似文献

A stranger mother-son pair of the chimpanzee was observed twice interacting with conspecifics of a neighbouring unit-group: first, when the mother and son accidentally encountered them within the core area of the former; second, when the mother and son temporarily immigrated for about one week. On both occasions, the mother and son were severely attacked by adult males of the neighbouring unit-group, and would have been killed had it not been for human intervention. The main target of the aggression was not the infant, but the mother. Some adult males intervened and prevented other males and females from attacking the mother-son pair. Moreover, most adult males displayed an ambivalent attitude since they showed aggression towards them on one occasion, but groomed, reassured and played on another. The reasons for the variable responses of adult males to a stranger female are discussed in terms of possible differences in their mating strategies.  相似文献

Regeneration of peach plants from callus derived from immature embryos   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9  
Summary Peach plants were repeatedly regenerated from immature embryos but not from callus derived from mature embryos. A white, nodular, highly regenerative callus was obtained when friable, primary callus from immature embryos was transferred from medium containing 4.5 M 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 0.44 M benzyladenine (BA) to media containing 0.27 M -naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 2.2 M BA. This callus retained its morphogenetic potential for a minimum of three subcultures. Green nodular callus, that lacked regenerative capacity, was produced from primary callus derived from mature embryos. Maximum regeneration of shoots occurred when highly regenerative callus was transferred to a medium in which the NAA concentration was reduced five times and the BA concentration was increased two times. Regenerated shoots were rooted in the dark on a medium containing 28.5 M indoleacetic acid. Cytogenetic analysis of regenerated plants indicated that all plants were diploid, 2n = 2x = 16. Phenotypic evaluation of regenerated plants, grown under field conditions, is now in progress.  相似文献

Summary Several interspecific and intergeneric crosses involving five Hordeum species, Triticum aestivum and Secale cereale were carried out to investigate the influence of two contrasting temperatures on chromosome elimination during embryo development. In four of the interspecific Hordeum crosses, chromosome elimination was significantly increased at the higher of the two temperatures, resulting in greater proportions of haploid plant progenies. However, there was no significant effect of temperature in the other interspecific cross between H. lechleri x H. bulbosum nor in the two intergeneric crosses between H. vulgare x S. cereale and T. aestivum x H. bulbosum whose progeny were exclusively hybrid and haploid, respectively.  相似文献

Summary The cultivated lentil L. culinaris and the wild lentil L. ervoides are reproductively isolated from one another due to their hybrid embryo breakdowns. Using embryo culture, vegetatively normal hybrids were obtained. One specific hybrid, heterozygous for a reciprocal translocation, had about 50% gamete viability and produced aborted and viable embryos in a 11 ratio. In the F2, vegetatively normal and highly fertile plants were selected. With the aid of embryo culture techniques, L. ervoides can be included in the wild gene pool of the cultivated lentil.  相似文献

Spectral changes in fluorescence of phycobilisomes (PBS) of A. variabilis treated with proteinase K were studied at room and liquid nitrogen temperature. In control PBS, the relative yield of 77 K fluorescence of F686 was very high, and those of F655 and F666 were low. In PBS treated with proteinase K for less than 1 h, F686 decreased, and F655 and F666 increased. In PBS treated with proteinase K for 2 h, F655 was the main peak of fluorescence emission, F686 was the second peak, the fluorescence emission peak of F666 disappeared. In PBS treated with proteinase K for more than 8 h, F655 showed only one fluorescence emission peak.We suggested that phycobiliporteins in the PBS of A. variabilis constitute an energy transfer chain, shown as follows:{fx91-1}The linkages between APC and APC-B, C-PC and APC, and C-PC and APC-B had different sensitivity towards proteinase K.  相似文献
