Four isomers of methyl 2-deoxy-D-arabino-hexosides were isolated by HPLC as chromatographically homogeneous compounds. The rates of pyranoside isomerization (alpha(p) and beta(p)) at 40 degrees C and of furanoside isomerization (alpha(f) and beta(f)) at 26 degrees C were determined. A mechanism has been suggested for transformations taking place during isomerization of methyl 2-deoxy-D-arabino-hexosides in methanolic solution catalyzed with hydrogen chloride.  相似文献

Kava-kava (Piper methysticum G. Forster) has been used in social and ceremonial life in the Pacific islands from ancient times for the soporific and narcotic effects. Today several extracts standardized in the biologically active constituents kavalactones are marketed both as herbal medicinal products for anxiety disorders and as dietary supplements to improve stress disorders, nervous tension and restlessness. Unlike other substances used for these purposes, kava-kava has been shown to have minimal negative effects, and possibly positive effects, on reaction time and cognitive processing. Furthermore, it decreases anxiety without the loss of mental acuity. Although kava-kava has been found to be very effective, well tolerated, and non-addictive at therapeutic dosages, potential side effects can occur when very high doses are taken for extended periods. In addition, in the last two years unexpected high liver toxicity has been reported in two patients. Until now no studies support the liver toxicity of kavalactones and it is unknown which compound could have provoked the liver disease. On the other hand, it should be possible that unknown or unexpected constituents are the responsible or contributed to the liver toxicity.  相似文献

The ligand substitution reaction of Ru2(O2CCH3)4Cl with 2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (Hadmpym) under gentle refluxing conditions in methanol led to the formation of a bridging-ligand mono-substituted compound, [Ru2(O2CCH3)3(admpym)(Cl)(MeOH)] (1). Compound 1 crystallized in monoclinic space group P21/n (no. 14) with a=8.3074(8) Å, b=12.3722(8) Å, c=18.913(1) Å, β=95.559(3)°, V=1934.8(3) Å3, and Z=4. Temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of 1 revealed it to be in a spin ground state S=3/2 arising from the electronic configuration of σ2π4δ2(δ*π*)3. Compound 1 undergoes three metal-centered redox reactions in electrochemistry: E1/2 (ox)=+0.72 V (Ia/Ic<1, ΔEp=0.17 V); E1/2 (1,red)=−0.65 V (Ia/Ic≈1, ΔEp=0.10 V); and E1/2 (2,red)=−1.80 V (Ia/Ic?1, ΔEp=0.16 V). Then, the redox species produced by electrolysis were characterized by spectroscopic studies.  相似文献

We measured how much the radius of the anterior curvature and the length of the femoral shaft of cadaveric bones have changed from medieval to recent times. Around 20 (x, y) coordinates of a virtual coordinate system were measured at intervals of 1.5 cm along the shaft of the femur to calculate one single radius of a virtual circle in the (x, y) plane. The median radii of curvature were 119, 141, and 158 cm for medieval, early, and late 20th century femora, respectively. Early and late 20th century femora were of similar length (45 cm), but medieval femora were shorter (43.5 cm). Femora have become not only longer but also straighter since the Middle Ages. These findings account in part for the increase in height of modern generations. Size and shape changes may have significant implications for the biomechanical response of the femur to the forces to which it is subjected in everyday life, in trauma, and following surgical intervention.  相似文献

The biogenetic origin of the isoprenoid building blocks of the sesquiterpene germacrene D was studied in Solidago canadensis. Feeding experiments were carried out with 1-[5,5-D(2)]deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate (D(2)-DOXP), [5-13C]mevalonolactone (13C-MVL) and [1-13C]-D-glucose. The hydrodistillate of a cut shoot fed with D(2)-DOXP was investigated by enantio-MDGC-MS and the volatile fraction of a shoot supplied with 13C-MVL was examined by GC-C-IRMS. The incorporation of [1-13C]-D-glucose was analyzed by quantitative 13C NMR spectroscopy after isolation of germacrene D from the essential oil. Our labeling studies revealed that the biosynthesis of the C-15 skeleton of sesquiterpene germacrene D in Solidago canadensis proceeds predominantly via the methylerythritol phosphate pathway.  相似文献

Autogenic training: a meta-analysis of clinical outcome studies   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Autogenic training (AT) is a self-relaxation procedure by which a psychophysiological determined relaxation response is elicited. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of AT. Seventy-three controlled outcome studies were found (published 1952–99). Sixty studies (35 randomized controlled trials [RCT]) qualified for inclusion in the meta-analysis. Medium-to-large effect sizes (ES) occurred for pre–post comparisons of disease-specific AT-effects, with the RCTs showing larger ES. When AT was compared to real control conditions, medium ES were found. Comparisons of AT versus other psychological treatment mostly resulted in no effects or small negative ES. This pattern of results was stable at follow-up. Unspecific AT-effects (i.e., effects on mood, cognitive performance, quality of life, and physiological variables) tended to be even larger than main effects. Separate meta-analyses for different disorders revealed a significant reduction of the heterogeneity of ES. Positive effects (medium range) of AT and of AT versus control in the meta-analysis of at least 3 studies were found for tension headache/migraine, mild-to-moderate essential hypertension, coronary heart disease, asthma bronchiale, somatoform pain disorder (unspecified type), Raynaud's disease, anxiety disorders, mild-to-moderate depression/dysthymia, and functional sleep disorders.  相似文献

The structure and infectivity of the oocysts of a new species of Cryptosporidium from the feces of humans are described. Oocysts are structurally indistinguishable from those of Cryptosporidium parvum. Oocysts of the new species are passed fully sporulated, lack sporocysts. and measure 4.4-5.4 microm (mean = 4.86) x 4.4-5.9 microm (mean = 5.2 microm) with a length to width ratio 1.0-1.09 (mean 1.07) (n = 100). Oocysts were not infectious for ARC Swiss mice, nude mice. Wistar rat pups, puppies, kittens or calves, but were infectious to neonatal gnotobiotic pigs. Pathogenicity studies in the gnotobiotic pig model revealed significant differences in parasite-associated lesion distribution (P = 0.005 to P = 0.02) and intensity of infection (P = 0.04) between C. parvum and this newly described species from humans. In vitro cultivation studies have also revealed growth differences between the two species. Multi-locus analysis of numerous unlinked loci, including a preliminary sequence scan of the entire genome demonstrated this species to be distinct from C. parvum and also demonstrated a lack of recombination, providing further support for its species status. Based on biological and molecular data, this Cryptosporidium infecting the intestine of humans is proposed to be a new species Cryptosporidium hominis n. sp.  相似文献

Recently genetic epidemiologists have begun using case-control family study designs to investigate the role of genetic and environmental risk factors in disease etiology. The objective of these studies is to assess the association of environmental factors with the disease trait; to characterize the disease genes using segregation analysis; and to quantify the residual familial aggregation after controlling for environmental and genetic factors. Typically these objectives are achieved by conducting separate studies and analysis. This paper describes an estimating equation based approach for a combined association, segregation and aggregation analysis on data from case-control family studies. Simulations indicate that the method performs well in a variety of settings. The method is illustrated using simulated family history data made available to participants in a recent Genetic Analysis Workshop.  相似文献

Onehundred and forty-eight out of onehundred and fifty strains of Vibrio anguillarum isolated from vibriosis in Danish marine aquaculture produced bacterial communication signals, acylated homoserine lactones, eliciting a response in the Agrobacterium tumefaciens (pZLR4) monitoring system. One strain, a serotype O4, induced a strong response in the Chromobacterium violaceum (CV026) monitoring system. Profiles of AHLs determined by TLC separation revealed the presence of at least four AHLs and a compound similar to N-3-oxo-decanoyl homoserine lactone (3-oxo-C10-HSL) was present in all strains. The production rate of the presumed 3-oxo-C10-HSL followed the growth rate of V. anguillarum whereas the production rate of a small AHL (Rf value of 0.74) increased faster than the growth rate of V. anguillarum indicating autoinduction. AHLs were produced by all serotypes (O1 to O10) and by non-typable strains. During infection with V. anguillarum, AHLs could be extracted from liver, kidney and muscle of rainbow trout and AHLs were detected both in vitro and in vivo when cell numbers reached 10(7) per ml or gram. Preliminary investigations of interactions between AHLs and the fish immune system were carried out determining oxidative burst of fish macrophages exposed to 3-oxo-C10-HSL. No activation or suppression of the superoxide anion production in the head kidney macrophages was seen when treated with the AHL compound in concentrations of 1 nM-10 microM. Our data show that AHLs are produced by almost all V. anguillarum strains and that no clear pattern relating AHL production to disease or virulence appear.  相似文献

The nitrate transporter from Chlorella sorokiniana (accession number AY026523) has been cloned by screening a cDNA library based on mRNA isolated after 30 min treatment of Chlorella with 5 mM nitrate and with a RT-PCR product (730 bp) as a probe. The Chlorella sequence has similarity to known nitrate transporters of the NRT2 family (high-affinity nitrate transporters). The cDNA clone was used for functional expression in Xenopus oocytes and a nitrate-dependent current was measured at pH 5.5 but not at pH 7.4. A second algal gene or a second gene product was not needed for functional expression in Xenopus. Inhibitor studies in Chlorella indicated that protein phosphorylation/dephosphorylation is involved in nitrate induction of ChNRT2.1. In addition to nitrate, ChNRT2.1 expression is induced by nitroprusside, a NO donor, and is affected by glucose.  相似文献
