Background and Aims
Anoxic conditions are seldom considered in root iron plaque induction of wetland plants in hydroponic experiments, but such conditions are essential for root iron plaque formation in the field. Although ferrous ion availability and root radial oxygen loss capacity are generally taken into account, neglect of anoxic conditions in root iron plaque formation might lead to an under- or over-estimate of their functional effects, such as blocking toxic metal uptake. This study hypothesized that anoxic conditions would influence root iron plaque formation characteristics and translocation of Zn and Cd by rice seedlings.Methods
A hydroponic culture was used to grow rice seedlings and a non-disruptive approach for blocking air exchange between the atmosphere and the induction solution matrix was applied for root iron plaque formation, namely flushing the headspace of the induction solution with N2 during root iron plaque induction. Zn and Cd were spiked into the solution after root iron plaque formation, and translocation of both metals was determined.Key Results
Blocking air exchange between the atmosphere and the nutrient solution by N2 flushing increased root plaque Fe content by between 11 and 77 % (average 31 %). The N2 flushing treatment generated root iron plaques with a smoother surface than the non-N2 flushing treatment, as observed by scanning electron microscopy, but Fe oxyhydroxides coating the rice seedling roots were amorphous. The root iron plaques sequestrated Zn and Cd and the N2 flushing enhanced this effect by approx. 17 % for Zn and 71 % for Cd, calculated by both single and combined additions of Zn and Cd.Conclusions
Blocking of oxygen intrusion into the nutrient solution via N2 flushing enhanced root iron plaque formation and increased Cd and Zn sequestration in the iron plaques of rice seedlings. This study suggests that hydroponic studies that do not consider redox potential in the induction matrices might lead to an under-estimate of metal sequestration by root iron plaques of wetland plants. 相似文献63.
Microbilobata avalanchensis n. gen. and n. sp. from the Lower Silurian (upper Wenlock) carbonate rocks of the lower Delorme Group in the Avalanche Lake area, northwestern Canada, is described here as the earliest known terebratulid brachiopod. These small shells (less than 2 mm long) are subtriangular, anteriorly emarginate, possibly punctate, with both valves being sulcate at their anterior halves, the ventral sulcus bearing one prominent plica, and the dorsal sulcus marked by two plicae. Internally, M. avalanchensis has a centronelliform loop extending for about three fifths of the total shell length. The shells are silicified in carbonate rocks of mid to outer shelf origin. M. avalanchensis is relatively rare, with about 40 specimens so far found from samples collected at 58–60 m above the base of section AV5 in the Avalanche Lake area. Its presence in rocks of Wenlock age extends the earliest known terebratulids back about 16 million years from the oldest previously recorded terebratulids (earliest Devonian age). The small size and simple form of the new species suggest that heterochrony (progenesis) could have played a role in the origin of the Terebratulida. M. avalanchensis serves as a good example of Cope's Rule, indicating that the terebratulids evolved from a very small, unspecialized ancestor. The unusually small size of this taxon also offers one explanation as to why some ancestors or transitional forms of major taxonomic groups are extremely difficult to find in the fossil record. 相似文献

目的:分析早期强化步行基本功训练对脑卒中预后的影响。方法:选取我院2008年10月一2011年10月收治的176例恢复期脑卒中患者,按照随机数字表分为观察组及对照组,各88例,均接受常规药物治疗和康复训练,观察组在此基础上接受早期强化步行基本功训练,对比两组患者的预后。结果:两组患者治疗后FMA—LE、BBS及MBI评分均见上升,观察组较对照组上升程度更为明显(P〈0.05),T2时期观察组评分亦见升高,而对照组评分与T1时期相比无明显统计学差异(P〉0.05);两组患者治疗后步长、步宽及步速均见上升,观察组较对照组上升程度更为明显(P〈0.05),T2时期观察组步态参数亦见升高,而对照组步态参数与T1时期相比无明显统计学差异(P〉0.05)。结论:早期强化步行基本功训练能够有效改善脑卒中患者下肢运动功能和平衡能力,保证治疗后步行功能,避免生活质量下降,该康复方法值得广泛推广。 相似文献

采用两种孔径的尼龙网袋(1mm和5μm),将盆钵供试土壤分成内外两层,内层土壤混合猪粪或稻草,并以不添加猪粪和稻草的供试土壤作为空白;外层直接接入供试土壤,进行培养,以获取土著食细菌线虫大量富集的试验土壤。结果表明:添加基质(猪粪和稻草)显著地促进了土壤线虫的繁殖,大量繁殖的线虫通过1mm网袋迁移至外层未加基质的土壤,而采用5μm网袋则限制了线虫向外层土壤的迁移。添加猪粪的1mm网袋处理经过28d培养后,外层土壤线虫数是空白处理的9.1倍;添加稻草的1mm网袋处理经过35d培养后,外层土壤线虫数是空白处理的5.9倍。添加两种基质的5μm网袋处理,外层土壤线虫数和空白处理差异不大。添加基质主要是促进了食细菌线虫的繁殖,在培养结束时,添加猪粪的1mm网袋处理的食细菌线虫比例达到98.2%,添加稻草的1mm网袋处理的食细菌线虫比例达到90.5%,两个处理食细菌线虫的总数分别是空白处理的14.8倍和8.9倍,并且主要是Protorhabditis sp.线虫的增加。 相似文献

Gram-negative bacteria most often use N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) as intercellular quorum-sensing signal molecules. In this study, it was demonstrated that rice plants contain AHL mimic molecules that are very sensitive to the highly specific AiiA lactonase enzyme and can activate three different AHL bacterial biosensors, indicating that the compounds have a homoserine lactone structure and could be AHLs. Statolith size and growth was used to determine the influence of abiotic factors on the growth of Loligo vulgaris and Sepioteuthis australis embryos. Recently spawned egg masses collected from the field were incubated in the laboratory under different levels of
light intensity, photoperiod, or short periods of low salinity (30‰). Double tetracycline staining was used to follow statolith
growth. In L. vulgaris constant light conditions produced significantly slower growth in the embryonic statoliths and embryos held at summer photoperiod
had slower statolith growth than those held at winter photoperiods. However once they hatched out there was no evidence that
photoperiod affected statolith growth. After hatching, in all photoperiods statolith growth rates decreased in comparison
with late embryonic rates. In S. australis embryos, differences between the high and medium light intensities for summer and intermediate photoperiods were found, suggesting
that under summer incubation temperature, longer daylengths at medium light intensity favoured higher statolith growth for
this species. In comparison to controls, slower statolith growth in S. australis embryos due to low salinity only occurred when exposed for 72 h. Comparison with previous studies indicates that temperature
seems to be the main abiotic factor influencing statolith growth during early stages, however, interactions among all abiotic
factors needs to be determined as well as the unknown influence of other isolated factors, e.g., oxygen concentration within

to the tenth and ninth millennia cal b.c. demonstrate that a wide variety of wild pulses, cereals, fruits and nuts was exploited. Five lines of evidence suggest that
cultivation was practised at three of the sites. (1) Wild einkorn, wild rye and lentils occur outside their natural habitats.
(2) The founder crops barley, emmer and single-grained einkorn appear at different times. (3) An assemblage of weeds of cultivation
was identified. (4) There is a gradual decrease in gathered plants such as small seeded grasses and Polygonum/Rumex. (5) Barley grains increase in breadth and thickness. Morphological domestication did not become established, perhaps because

Evaluation of protocols used in 2-d electrophoresis for proteome analysis of young rice caryopsis 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In order to obtain a high-resolution electrophorogram of rice young panicle proteome, we evaluated various protocols commonly used in two-dimensional (2D) polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) of proteins, including gel staining protocol, pH range of immobilized pH gradient (IPG) strips and sample loading quantity. Results showed that a silver staining protocol using sensitized solution containing glacial acetic acid, sodium acetate and sodium thiosulfate (reported by Heukeshoven and Dernick in 1988) and a Coomassie Brilliant Blue staining method using solution containing G-250, ammonium sulfate and phosphoric acid (reported by Pink et al in 2010) demonstrated the superior staining effect. In addition, we also showed that higher resolution was achieved when IPG gel strip with pH range of 5-8 was used, compared to that with pH range of 4-7. Finally, the optimal loading quantity was determined as 130 μg using the 17 cm-long nonlinear IPG strip with pH 5-8 in combination with the silver nitrate staining protocol. The evaluated results would be helpful in proteome analysis of young rice caryopsis. 相似文献
