Apoptosis is a highly conserved procedure of cell death and occurs under various stimuli, including oxidative stress. A small heat shock protein, alphaB-crystallin, is found to process resistance to apoptosis in some cells and tissues. But the mechanisms under this protective role are not fully understood. In the present study, we reported the early protective role of alphaB-crystallin against hydrogen peroxide-induced apoptosis in mice myogenic C(2)C(12) cells. alphaB-Crystallin interacted with p53, a proapoptotic protein, during cell apoptosis and such protein interaction mainly occurred in the cytoplasm of the cells, suggesting that the interaction of alphaB-crystallin with p53 might prevent the translocation of p53 from cytoplasm to mitochondria. Hence, this study provides a hint that alphaB-crystallin affects on p53 mitochondrial translocation during oxidative stress-induced apoptosis.  相似文献

Leg movements of stick insects (Carausius morosus) making turns towards visual targets are examined in detail, and a dynamic model of this behaviour is proposed. Initial results suggest that front legs shape most of the body trajectory, while the middle and hind legs just follow external forces (Rosano H, Webb B, in The control of turning in real and simulated stick insects, vol. 4095, pp 145–156, 2006). However, some limitations of this explanation and dissimilarities in the turning behaviour of the insect and the model were found. A second set of behavioural experiments was made by blocking front tarsi to further investigate the active role of the other legs for the control of turning. The results indicate that it is necessary to have different roles for each pair of legs to replicate insect behaviour. We demonstrate that the rear legs actively rotate the body while the middle legs move sideways tangentially to the hind inner leg. Furthermore, we show that on average the middle inner and hind outer leg contribute to turning while the middle outer leg and hind inner leg oppose body rotation. These behavioural results are incorporated into a 3D dynamic robot simulation. We show that the simulation can now replicate more precisely the turns made by the stick insect. Mosaic cycles in agricultural landscapes of Northwest Europe   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Mosaic cycles were originally understood as cyclical regeneration phases in forests. In this review, we shall examine how far the concept can be extended towards cyclical mosaics of habitat quality in patterned landscapes as a special case of ‘dynamic landscapes’. We will concentrate on habitats and plants in European temperate agricultural landscapes and grasslands in particular. Mosaic cycles of habitat quality are characterised by spatiotemporal shifts between disturbance and secondary succession. We found evidence for mosaic cycles in traditional agricultural systems, modern crop farming, and in recent conservation management. The relevant disturbance parameters to describe land-use drivers of mosaic cycles are spatial extent, frequency, and magnitude (biomass loss). Land-use-related drivers are usually regular and deterministic in space and time, with the exception of year-round grazing by free-ranging large herbivores. Fluctuating soil resources such as water and nutrients in interaction with climate variability add a stochastic component to these (land-use-related) drivers. The proportion of deterministic and stochastic components and their autocorrelation in time and space divides purely deterministic mosaic cycles from purely stochastic dynamic landscapes. In a second part, we briefly review plant life-history traits that may facilitate survival of plants in mosaic cycles of habitat quality. Theoretical studies emphasise (i) dispersal functions for extinction and recolonisation processes of metapopulations, (ii) storage effects as a component of buffered population growth in response to temporal fluctuations of habitat quality, and (iii) competitive ability in metacommunities. We propose a simple scheme relating these functions to the temporal and spatial correlation of patterned landscapes. There are only a very limited number of field studies available that give some support for the proposed scheme. We provide perspectives for further research in this field.  相似文献

Iterative applications are known to run as slow as their slowest computational component. This paper introduces malleability, a new dynamic reconfiguration strategy to overcome this limitation. Malleability is the ability to dynamically change the data size and number of computational entities in an application. Malleability can be used by middleware to autonomously reconfigure an application in response to dynamic changes in resource availability in an architecture-aware manner, allowing applications to optimize the use of multiple processors and diverse memory hierarchies in heterogeneous environments. The modular Internet Operating System (IOS) was extended to reconfigure applications autonomously using malleability. Two different iterative applications were made malleable. The first is used in astronomical modeling, and representative of maximum-likelihood applications was made malleable in the SALSA programming language. The second models the diffusion of heat over a two dimensional object, and is representative of applications such as partial differential equations and some types of distributed simulations. Versions of the heat application were made malleable both in SALSA and MPI. Algorithms for concurrent data redistribution are given for each type of application. Results show that using malleability for reconfiguration is 10 to 100 times faster on the tested environments. The algorithms are also shown to be highly scalable with respect to the quantity of data involved. While previous work has shown the utility of dynamically reconfigurable applications using only computational component migration, malleability is shown to provide up to a 15% speedup over component migration alone on a dynamic cluster environment. This work is part of an ongoing research effort to enable applications to be highly reconfigurable and autonomously modifiable by middleware in order to efficiently utilize distributed environments. Grid computing environments are becoming increasingly heterogeneous and dynamic, placing new demands on applications’ adaptive behavior. This work shows that malleability is a key aspect in enabling effective dynamic reconfiguration of iterative applications in these environments.

为研究圆果黄麻(Corchorus capsularis L.)粤圆6号不育突变体的类型及不育机理,以粤圆6号及其不育突变体为实验材料,对其花器官及花粉粒进行了形态观察、碘染实验、体外萌发实验及田间授粉实验,结果表明,粤圆6号突变体为雌性不育。对两个材料发育不同时期功能叶和花蕾中的可溶性糖和可溶性蛋白含量进行了测定,结果表明,可溶性糖和可溶性蛋白在不同时期均表现出动态变化。雌性不育突变体功能叶中的可溶性糖在现蕾前期的含量略低于正常可育材料,进入现蕾期和结果期,其可溶性糖却比可育材料分别高出16.0%、33.3%,而花蕾组织中的可溶性糖比可育材料降低了15.5%;可育材料3个时期的功能叶及花蕾组织中可溶性蛋白的表达量分别比不育突变体高出3.9%、29.2%、79.1%、11.9%。上述代谢表达差异可能与雌性不育有关。  相似文献

A novel approach to fatigue assessment during dynamic contractions was proposed which projected multiple surface myoelectric parameters onto the vector connecting the temporal start and end points in feature-space in order to extract the long-term trend information. The proposed end to end (ETE) projection was compared to traditional principal component analysis (PCA) as well as neural-network implementations of linear (LPCA) and non-linear PCA (NLPCA). Nine healthy participants completed two repetitions of fatigue tests during isometric, cyclic and random fatiguing contractions of the biceps brachii. The fatigue assessments were evaluated in terms of a modified sensitivity to variability ratio (SVR) and each method used a set of time-domain and frequency-domain features which maximized the SVR. It was shown that there was no statistical difference among ETE, PCA and LPCA (p > 0.99) and that all three outperformed NLPCA (p < 0.0022). Future work will include a broader comparison of these methods to other new and established fatigue indices.  相似文献

Using zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a case study, we show that the maturity concept of Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) theory is a useful metric for developmental state. Maturity does not depend on food or temperature contrary to age and to some extent length. We compile the maturity levels for each developmental milestone recorded in staging atlases. The analysis of feeding, growth, reproduction and aging patterns throughout the embryo, juvenile and adult life stages are well-captured by a simple extension of the standard DEB model and reveals that embryo development is slow relative to adults. A threefold acceleration of development occurs during the larval period. Moreover we demonstrate that growth and reproduction depend on food in predictable ways and their simultaneous observation is necessary to estimate parameters. We used data on diverse aspects of the energy budget simultaneously for parameter estimation using the covariation method. The lowest mean food intake level to initiate reproduction was found to be as high as 0.6 times the maximum level. The digestion efficiency for Tetramin? was around 0.5, growth efficiency was just 0.7 and the value for the allocation fraction to soma (0.44) was close to the one that maximizes ultimate reproduction.  相似文献

The auditory systems of humans and many other species use the difference in the time of arrival of acoustic signals at the two ears to compute the lateral position of sound sources. This computation is assumed to initially occur in an assembly of neurons organized along a frequency-by-delay surface. Mathematically, the computations are equivalent to a two-dimensional cross-correlation of the input signals at the two ears, with the position of the peak activity along this surface designating the position of the source in space. In this study, partially correlated signals to the two ears are used to probe the mechanisms for encoding spatial cues in stationary or dynamic (moving) signals. It is demonstrated that a cross-correlation model of the auditory periphery coupled with statistical decision theory can predict the patterns of performance by human subjects for both stationary and motion stimuli as a function of stimulus decorrelation. Implications of these findings for the existence of a unique cortical motion system are discussed.  相似文献
