This paper is concerned with the estimation of the number of species in a population through a fully hierarchical Bayesian model using the Metropolis algorithm. The proposed Bayesian estimator is based on Poisson random variables with means that are distributed according to some prior distributions with unknown hyperparameters. An empirical Bayes approach is considered and compared with the fully Bayesian approach based on biological data.  相似文献

Aging is a naturally biological process with adverse effects. The continuous accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) trigger cellular and tissue damage by activating several aging enzymes. The antioxidant properties of traditional medicinal plants used by Jakun aborigine’s community are a promising approach to alleviate aging process and prevent Alzheimer. The aim of the current investigation was to optimize a novel anti-aging formulation from traditional plants (Cnestis palala stem, Urceola micrantha stem, Marantodes pumilum stem and Microporus xanthopus fruiting bodies) using simplex centroid mixture design (SCMD). After selecting the optimal formulations based on desirability function of antioxidant activity (DPPḢ, ABTṠ+ and FRAP), they were further examined against the activity of aging-related-enzymes (collagenase, tyrosinase, acetyl- and butyrylcholinesterase). The single extracts of C. palala, U. micrantha and the binary mixture of C. palala and U. micrantha were the optimal formulations with high antioxidant activities. Single extract of U. micrantha showed the highest inhibition towards matrix metalloproteinase-1 (49.44 ± 4.11 %), while C. palala water extract showed highest inhibitions towards tyrosinase (14.06 ± 0.31%), acetylcholinesterase (32.92 ± 2.13%) and butyrylcholinesterase (34.89 ± 2.84%) enzymes. The single extracts of C. palala and U. micrantha displayed better activity as compared to the binary mixture formulation. In conclusion, these findings could be a baseline for further exploration of novel anti-aging agents from natural resources.  相似文献

Analytical monitoring surveys routinely confirm that organisms in the environment are exposed to complex multi-component pharmaceutical mixtures. We are hence tasked with the challenge to take this into consideration when investigating the ecotoxicology of pharmaceuticals. This review first provides a brief overview of the fundamental approaches for mixture toxicity assessment, which is then followed by a critical review on the empirical evidence that is currently at hand on the ecotoxicology of pharmaceutical mixtures. It is concluded that, while the classical concepts of concentration addition and independent action (response addition) provide a robust scientific footing, several knowledge gaps remain. This includes, in particular, the need for more and better empirical data on the effects of pharmaceutical mixtures on soil organisms as well as marine flora and fauna, and exploring the quantitative consequences of toxicokinetic, toxicodynamic and ecological interactions. Increased focus should be put on investigating the ecotoxicology of pharmaceutical mixtures in environmentally realistic settings.  相似文献

Interval mapping of quantitative trait loci from breeding experiments plays an important role in understanding the mechanisms of disease, both in humans and other organisms. Standard approaches to estimation involve parametric assumptions for the component distributions and may be sensitive to model misspecification. Some nonparametric tests have been studied. However, nonparametric estimation of the phenotypic distributions has not been considered in the genetics literature, even though such methods might provide essential nonparametric summaries for comparing different loci. We develop a sufficient condition for identifiability of the phenotypic distributions. Simple nonparametric estimators for the distributions are proposed for uncensored and right censored data. They have a closed form and their small and large sample properties are readily established. Their practical utility as numerical summaries which complement nonparametric tests is demonstrated on two recent genetics examples.  相似文献

One of the main goals in spatial epidemiology is to study the geographical pattern of disease risks. For such purpose, the convolution model composed of correlated and uncorrelated components is often used. However, one of the two components could be predominant in some regions. To investigate the predominance of the correlated or uncorrelated component for multiple scale data, we propose four different spatial mixture multiscale models by mixing spatially varying probability weights of correlated (CH) and uncorrelated heterogeneities (UH). The first model assumes that there is no linkage between the different scales and, hence, we consider independent mixture convolution models at each scale. The second model introduces linkage between finer and coarser scales via a shared uncorrelated component of the mixture convolution model. The third model is similar to the second model but the linkage between the scales is introduced through the correlated component. Finally, the fourth model accommodates for a scale effect by sharing both CH and UH simultaneously. We applied these models to real and simulated data, and found that the fourth model is the best model followed by the second model.  相似文献

dl-Dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine multilamellar vesicle suspensions were examined by the method of differential scanning calorimetry. A lack of the subtransition at 18°C was established. Such a subtransition is characteristic for l-dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine suspensions. The immobilization of lipase from Candida rugosa, using ionic liquids as additives to protect the inactivation of lipase by released alcohol and shrinking of gel during sol–gel process, was investigated. The influence of various factors, such as structure of ionic liquids, content of ionic liquids and types of precursor in the sol–gel process on the activity and stability of immobilized lipase was also studied. The highest hydrolytic activity of immobilized lipase was obtained when the hydrophilic ionic liquid, [C2mim][BF4], was used as an additive, while the highest stability of immobilized lipase was obtained by using hydrophobic ionic liquid, [C16mim][Tf2N]. Therefore, the binary mixtures of these ionic liquids as additives were used to obtain the optimal immobilized lipase, which shows both high activity and stability. The hydrolysis and esterification activities of lipase co-immobilized with the mixture of 1:1 at molar ratio of [C2mim][BF4] and [C16mim][Tf2N] were 10-fold and 14-fold greater than in silica gel without ionic liquids (ILs), respectively. After 5 days incubation of this immobilized lipase in n-hexane at 50 °C, 84% of initial activity was remained, while the residual activity of the lipase immobilized without ILs was 28%.  相似文献

A solvent engineering strategy was applied to the lipase-catalyzed methanolysis of triacylglycerols for biodiesel production. The effect of different pure organic solvents and co-solvent mixtures on the methanolysis was compared. The substrate conversions in the co-solvent mixtures were all higher than those of the corresponding pure organic solvents. Further study showed that addition of co-solvent decreased the values of |log Pinterface − log Psubstrate| and thus led to a faster reaction. The more the values of |log Pinterface − log Psubstrate| decreased, the faster the reaction proceeded and the higher the conversion attained. Different co-solvent ratio was further investigated. The co-solvent mixture of 25% t-pentanol:75% isooctane (v/v) was optimal, with which both the negative effects caused by excessive methanol and by-product glycerol could be eliminated. There was no obvious loss in lipase activity even after being repeatedly used for 60 cycles (720 h) with this co-solvent mixture as reaction medium. Other lipases and lipase combinations can also catalyze methanolysis in this co-solvent mixture. Furthermore, other vegetable oils were also explored for biodiesel production in this co-solvent mixture and it had been found that this co-solvent mixture media has extensive applicability.  相似文献
