Six-day-old tobacco seedlings rapidly incorporated and metabolized exogenously supplied [4-14C]-sitosterol, but none of the radioactivity was recovered from stigmasterol. However, exogenously supplied [2-14C]-mevalonic acid was incorporated into both sitosterol and stigmasterol. Based on these results it is suggested that the biosynthetic pathway of stigmasterol is not via sitosterol but that both sterols have a common precursor. 相似文献

The total lipids of Pinus halepensis pollen were separated into individual classes of neutral and polar lipids and the components of each class were identified and determined quantitatively. Free fatty acids, waxes and triacylglycerols were found as the main constituents of neutral lipids and phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine of polar lipids. Glycerylether derivatives were detected in neutral and polar lipid fractions. Free and esterified volatile fatty acids were also found in pollen and its neutral lipid fraction. 相似文献

They are 2,3-dihydro-5,8-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-2-hydroxymethyl-3-(2-hydroxypropyl)-1,4-naphthalenedione, 2,3-dihydro-5-hydroxy-4-hydroxymethyl-8-methoxy-naphtho[1,2-b]furan-6,9-dione and 5,8-dihydroxy-2-methoxy-6-hydroxymethyl-7-(2-hydroxypropyl)-1,4-naphthalenedione. The role of endogenous ethylene during germination of non-dormant seeds of Amaranthus caudatus L. was investigated. The seeds readily germinated in water and darkness at 24°C. Application of ethylene or of its precursor I-aminocyclopropane-I-carboxylic acid (ACC) slightly increased the rate of germination. Both compounds effectively antagonized osmotic inhibition by polyethyleneglycol. Application of aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) reduced ethylene production by 90% but did not inhibit germination. However, germination was inhibited by 2,5-norbornadiene, a competitive inhibitor of ethylene action. This inhibition was counteracted by ethylene, ethephon or ACC and enforced by AVG. It is concluded that the action of endogenous ethylene is an indispensable factor during germination of non-dormant seeds of A. caudatus. Ethylene action is required from the start of imbibition on. In water, low levels of endogenous ethylene are sufficient for this action. PEG increased the ethylene requirement considerably. 相似文献

Aldehyde dehydrogenase has been purified to homogeneity from mitochondria of potato tubers and pea epicotyls. Although the enzyme had a high affinity for glycolaldehyde it also had a high affinity for a number of other aliphatic and arylaldehydes. It is proposed that the codification glycolaldehyde dehydrogenase (EC 1.2.1.22) should be abandoned in favour of mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (EC 1.2.1.3). The purified enzyme showed esterase activity and had properties similar to those reported for the mammalian mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase. Although the natural substrate(s) for the enzyme is not known, the kinetic properties of the enzyme are consistent with it playing a role in the oxidation of acetaldehyde, glycolaldehyde and indoleacetaldehyde. 相似文献

The water-soluble major polysaccharides from the seed of Coix lacryma-jobi var. ma-yuen eluted as a broad peak by gel filtration on Sepharose CL-2B. The mixture (CS-Glucan) was resolved into 7 glucans by HPLC on the column of Asahi-Pak GS-510 + GS-320. Similarities were observed between M, shown in the gel filtration profile and the elution volume in HPLC. Methylation analysis indicated that the ethanol-fractionated CS-glucan contained 4-O- and 4,6-di-O-substituted glucosyl residues. 1H and 13C NMR data accorded with the results of methylation analysis, and the glycosidic linkages were shown to have an α-configuration. Thus, CS-glucan contained (1 → 4) linked α-d-glucans to which are attached glucosyl side chains at O-6 of the main chain in a similar way to amylopectin. Each purified glucan was shown to have different absorption maxima ( > 550 nm or 530 nm) in the iodine reaction. The results of the methylation analysis and of the pullulanase digestion suggest that the 550 nm-glucan has a lower branching frequency and shorter side chains than the 530 nm-glucan. Although CS-glucan was found to have weak anti-complementary activity, HPLC-purified > 550 nm-glucan was found to be more potent than the 530 nm-glucan. Thus CS-glucan is highly heterogeneous, and the glucans which form a tight complex when tested with iodine, generally tend to have considerable anti-complementary activity. 相似文献

Fruits of tomato incorporated [2-14C]mevalonic acid lactone into the steroidal glycoalkaloid α-tomatine. Young fruits showed the greatest alkaloid-synthesizing ability but this decreased as the fruits developed. Analysis of sap exuded from fruit stalks and also application of[4-14C]cholesterol to leaves confirmed that tomatine is not transported into fruits from vegetative organs. Accumulation of this alkaloid in fruits thus appears entirely due to synthesis. Excised fruits of all developmental stages degraded injected [14C]tomatine and rates were directly related to fruit age. The pattern of accumulation/decline in fruit tomatine may be explicable on the basis of changing capacity for synthesis/degradation during development. Label from injected [14C]tomatine was present mainly in chlorophylls and carotenoids where it increased with time as that in tomatine decreased. The significance of the relationship between tomatine disappearance and carotenoid development is briefly discussed. The aglycone tomatidine was not detected in green fruits but a Δ16-5α-pregnenolone-like compound was. 相似文献
