While theoretical work focusing on immigrant language acculturation suggests that both parental and child's understanding of English are needed to measure acculturation, analysts have instead focused on child bilingualism. I develop a measure of familial acculturation and conceptually distinguish it from child bilingualism. I then determine whether several child and parental variables influence these measures differently, which would provide evidence supporting the conceptual distinction. Results show that child bilingualism is indeed independent of familial acculturation. Parental skills and resources significantly affect familial acculturation but not child bilingualism, whereas gender and Latino status affect child bilingualism but not familial acculturation. Additionally, modes of incorporation do not determine either child bilingualism or familial acculturation, suggesting that integrative forces external to the family may have little power to shape the internal workings that generate child or familial language acculturation. Together, these findings imply that researchers should avoid conflating child bilingualism with familial acculturation. 相似文献

While differences in joint kinematics and kinetics between control subjects and patients before and after total hip arthroplasty (THA) has often been studied, inter-joint coordination has not been fully characterized. We hypothesized that in patients undergoing THA, inter-joint coordination (i) is different from control subjects before surgery, (ii) changes from pre-operative to post-operative, and (iii) remains different from control subjects after surgery. Seventy-eight subjects underwent gait analysis before and ∼1 year after primary unilateral THA. 109 control subjects were age, sex, and BMI matched to the THA group. We selected a representative trial at each subjects’ self-selected walking speed from a motion analysis data repository. To assess kinematic coordination, we constructed sagittal plane hip-knee angle cyclograms, and calculated total, stance, and swing phase plot area (deg2). To assess kinetic coordination, we calculated the support moment (MS, %wt 1 ht), the time-integral of support moment (MS impulse, %wt 1 ht 1 t), and the relative contribution of each joint to MS impulse (%Hip, %Knee, %Ankle). We used t-tests to compare groups. Total and swing-phase cyclogram area was smaller preoperatively, but improved to control values after THA. Swing-phase area was smaller than control values after THA. MS impulse was larger in THA subjects than controls both before and after surgery. While, the relative contribution of the hip to MS impulse was not different from control values, the contributions of the knee and ankle were smaller. Inter-joint coordination, as measured by hip-knee angle cyclograms and MS impulse, may be used to distinguish differences in gait mechanics between osteoarthritis and THA. Future work focusing on coordination among joints may be needed to fully restore gait function. 相似文献

The timing and quantity of fruit production are major determinants of the functioning of a forest community, but simultaneous analyses of both are rare. We analyzed a ten‐year dataset (2001–2011) of fruit production for 45 tree and liana species from the Nouragues rain forest, French Guiana. We developed a hierarchical Bayesian approach to determine variation in the timing and quantity of fruit production. Our analysis accommodates missing censuses and quantifies variation at seasonal and inter‐annual scales. The fruiting peak of 22 of 45 species occurred during the peak of the rainy season, which is typical for central and eastern Amazon. The timing and quantity of fruit production varied substantially across years in most species, with greater variation in quantity than in timing. The timing of fruit production varied from continuously fruiting species to mast fruiting species that had two or more consecutive years without fruit production. Fully 40% of species were mast fruiting species. The seasonal timing and inter‐annual variation in fruiting were unrelated to seed dispersal mode across species. We saw no evidence for directional change in the level of fruit production, the timing of fruit production, or their variances; however, 10 yr is a short record for such analyses. 相似文献

Elucidating the mechanisms of specific small‐molecule (ligand) recognition by proteins is a long‐standing conundrum. While the structures of these molecules, proteins and ligands, have been extensively studied, protein–ligand interactions, or binding modes, have not been comprehensively analyzed. Although methods for assessing similarities of binding site structures have been extensively developed, the methods for the computational treatment of binding modes have not been well established. Here, we developed a computational method for encoding the information about binding modes as graphs, and assessing their similarities. An all‐against‐all comparison of 20,040 protein–ligand complexes provided the landscape of the protein–ligand binding modes and its relationships with protein‐ and chemical spaces. While similar proteins in the same SCOP Family tend to bind relatively similar ligands with similar binding modes, the correlation between ligand and binding similarities was not very high (R2 = 0.443). We found many pairs with novel relationships, in which two evolutionally distant proteins recognize dissimilar ligands by similar binding modes (757,474 pairs out of 200,790,780 pairs were categorized into this relationship, in our dataset). In addition, there were an abundance of pairs of homologous proteins binding to similar ligands with different binding modes (68,217 pairs). Our results showed that many interesting relationships between protein–ligand complexes are still hidden in the structure database, and our new method for assessing binding mode similarities is effective to find them. 相似文献

目的观察不同护理模式对妊娠期高血压疾病(HDCP)患者的临床效果。方法选取临床上明确诊断为HDCP的患者120例,随机分为对照组和观察组各60例,对照组采用常规护理模式,观察组在常规护理模式的基础上给予细致化护理模式,分别采用自我效能感(CBSEI)量表、焦虑自评量表(SAS)、抑郁自评量表(SDS)对HDCP患者护理前后进行评分,分析比较两组患者护理前后自我效能感评分、SAS评分、SDS评分情况。结果两组患者护理前的自我效能感、SAS评分、SDS评分等方面差异无统计学意义(均P0.05)。护理后两组患者自我效能感评分明显升高,SAS评分、SDS评分均明显降低,与治疗前比较差异有统计学意义(均P0.05)。而且护理后,观察组自我效能感明显高于对照组,SAS评分、SDS评分均较对照组明显降低,差异均有统计学意义(均P0.05)。结论细致化护理能显著提高HDCP患者的自我效能感、降低HDCP患者的SAS评分、SDS评分,缓解焦虑、抑郁情绪,值得临床推广应用。 相似文献

Numerous viruses rely on glycan receptor binding as the initial step in host cell infection. Engagement of specific glycan receptors such as sialylated carbohydrates, glycosaminoglycans, or histo‐blood group antigens can determine host range, tissue tropism, and pathogenicity. Glycan receptor‐binding sites are typically located in exposed regions on viral surfaces—sites that are also generally prone to binding of neutralizing antibodies that directly interfere with virus‐glycan receptor interactions. In this review, we examine the locations and architecture of the glycan‐ and antibody‐binding sites in four different viruses with stalk‐like attachment proteins (reovirus, influenza virus, norovirus, and coronavirus) and investigate the mechanisms by which antibodies block glycan recognition. Those viruses exemplify that direct molecular mimicking of glycan receptors by antibodies is rare and further demonstrate that antibodies often partly overlap or bind sufficiently close to the receptor‐binding region to hinder access to this site, achieving neutralization partially because of the epitope location and partly due to their sheer size. 相似文献

In PDB, more than half of the entries are structure complexes and of these complexes, most are symmetric, composed of identical subunits. Complex formation is the way through which larger structures and even molecular machines are assembled and built in nature. In this work, we apply group theory and carry out a comprehensive study of the global motion patterns of protein complexes of various symmetries. The work presents for the first time a comprehensive list of all the symmetric, aesthetically pleasing, global motion patterns available to complexes of cyclic, dihedral, tetrahedral, or octahedral symmetry. Our results clearly demonstrate that complexes with the same symmetry will have the same global motion patterns and thus may function in a similar way, and that there are only a finite number of global motion patterns available to symmetric complexes as the number of protein symmetry groups is effectively finite. The work complements our current understanding of the principle of complex formation that has been mostly structure‐based by providing novel dynamics‐based insights. Furthermore, as dynamics is closely tied to function, these motion patterns can provide global insights into the general functional mechanisms of protein complexes. 相似文献

作者对贻贝科贝类的幼虫和幼贝期发育阶段形态结构的出现和变化顺序进行了研究,其约60个不同分类单元的个体发生可归纳为4种形态发生类型或模式。主要对3个形态发生区域的阶段形态结构的起源、发育变化和同源性做了研究。其一,即中央区域,开始形成于前双壳Ⅰ期(PD-Ⅰ),在某个分类单元它可以在前双壳Ⅱ期(PD-Ⅱ)和幼贝期(N)形成,而在其它分类单元则在前双壳Ⅱ期、幼贝期和双壳期(D)形成;第二区域,即背部后区,在幼贝期出现;第三区域,即背部前区,出现于双壳期。双壳期背部后区在某个分类单元起源于幼贝期的形态构造,在其它分类单元则可能起源于双壳期的形态构造。与在贻贝分类学上应用的成体特征相比,早期发育阶段中央和背部后区的形态结构显示出很明显的发育顺序或特征变化规律。根据以前人们熟知而尚未应用到分类和系统发育研究中的早期发育阶段形态特征,作者重新修订了Soot-Ryen的现生贻贝科种上阶元分类系统,重新提出了科内系统发育关系。修订的分类系统表明,Scarlato and Starobogatov(1984)提出的贻贝科各亚科由偏顶蛤亚科开始,沿4条系统发育路线演化发展,对应其早期发育阶段的4类形态发生类型或模式。 相似文献

Copper(II) cations coordinated with PMDTA (pentamethyldiethylenetriamine) and TMEDA (tetramethylethylenediamine) possess a high synthetic potential. A lack of co-contraction may predispose to knee instability or laxity, resulting in additional shear stress on the internal structures of the knee, especially in below-knee amputee (BKA) subjects. The purposes of this study were: (1) to provide information on how BKA children regulate agonist and antagonist muscle coordination, and (2) to quantify the level of knee co-contraction in able-bodied (AB) and BKA children during the stepping-in-place (SIP) task. Fourteen children (7 BKA vs. 7 AB), paired for age, weight and height, participated in this study. One-way ANOVA with Newman–Keuls post hoc tests (p < 0.05) were used to compare peak power, the co-contraction index, and the resultant agonist and antagonist moments during different phases of SIP. Statistical analysis revealed that BKA children perform the task with similar kinematics than AB children while they generated less co-contraction in both their non-amputated limb and amputated limb, notably because the two groups of children used different agonist and antagonist muscles during the same periods of the SIP. This lack of co-contraction may reduce knee stability and may stress the internal structures of the knee in both the NAL and AL, and may lead to the development of premature knee osteoarthritis. 相似文献
