The persistence of extensive variation in nature seems to stand against the most general principle of evolution by natural selection: in antagonistic interactions, the stronger type is expected to replace the weaker. Game theory shows that, however, in contrast to this intuitive expectation for interactions between two players, strategic considerations on fitness maximization in repeated pairwise interactions between three players (truels) or more (N-person duels) lead to what can be dubbed "survival of the weakest": the weakest individual can have the highest fitness. A paradox arises: competitive skills cannot be improved by natural selection, unless we assume mutations with strong effects or unless we assume that interactions are exclusively between two individuals. The paradox disappears, however, with more realistic assumptions (a mixture of duels and truels; the attacked individual backfires; the contest can end without a winner; defensive and offensive skills are correlated; players not directly involved in the contest suffer collateral damage). An unexpected new result emerges: the weaker types can persist in a population in the absence of recurrent mutations, migration, and fluctuating selection. Game theory and the analysis of N-person duels, therefore, help understand one of the most enduring puzzles in evolutionary biology: the maintenance of variation under constant selection.  相似文献

In this work, lipase from Arthrobacter sp. was immobilized by sol–gel encapsulation to improve its catalytic properties. Various silanizing agents including vinyl-trimethoxy silane, octyl-trimethoxy silane, γ-(methacryloxypropyl)-trimethoxy silane (MAPTMS) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) were chosen as the precursors. Among them, MAPTMS was for the first time utilized to encapsulate lipases, and the prepared enzyme by copolymerization of MAPTMS and TEOS exhibited the highest activity in both the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl palmitate and the asymmetric acylation of 4-hydroxy-3-methyl-2-(2-propenyl)-2-cyclopenten-1-one. The effects of various immobilization parameters were investigated. Under the optimum conditions of MAPTMS/TEOS = 1/1 (mol/mol), water/silane molar ratio (R value) = 20 and lipase loading = 0.01 g/mL sol, the total activity of the immobilized enzyme reached up to 13.6-fold of the free form. Moreover, the encapsulated lipase exhibited higher thermal stability than the free form and retained 54% of the original activity after uses for 60 d. Enantioselectivity of enzyme was also improved with an E value of 150 after encapsulation from 85 for the free form.  相似文献

目的探讨应用全数字化血管造影机检查的图像质量及X射线剂量。方法500人次冠状动脉造影检查,常规拍摄左前斜位加头位或足位,右前斜位加头位或足位,必要时加摄蜘蛛位。结果采取支架植入治疗左前降支狭窄92例,左回旋支狭窄28例及右冠状动脉狭窄45例,冠状动脉微细血管显示佳,管腔内血栓、血管内膜撕裂、支架等显示清晰。结论全数字化血管造影机采集的图像佳,X线剂量较低。  相似文献

In the present paper a procedure for the biomolecular motion characterization based on the evaluation of the Mean Square Displacement (MSD), through the Self Distribution Function (SDF), is presented. In particular it will be shown how the MSD, which represents a good observable for the characterization of the dynamical properties in disordered systems, can be decomposed into partial contributions associated to the system dynamical processes within a specific spatial scale. It will be shown how the SDF procedure allows to evaluate both the total MSD and the partial MSDs through the total SFD and the partial SDFs. As a result, the total MSD is the weighed sum of the partial MSD contributions in which the weights are obtained by the fitting procedure of measured EINS intensity data. We apply the SDF procedure at EINS data collected, by the IN13 backscattering spectrometer at the Institute Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, on aqueous mixtures of two homologous disaccharides (sucrose and trehalose) and on dry myoglobin in trehalose environment. It emerges that the hydrogen bond imposed network of the water–trehalose mixture appears to be stronger with respect to that of the water–sucrose mixture and this result can justify the highest bioprotectant effectiveness of trehalose in comparison with sucrose. Furthermore it emerges that, the partial MSD behaviours of sucrose and trehalose are equivalent in the low Q domain (0–1.7) Å− 1 whereas they are different in the high Q domain (1.7–4) Å1. This circumstance suggests that the higher structure sensitivity of sucrose in respect to trehalose should be related to the small spatial observation windows.  相似文献

Enzymatic resolution of tertiary arylic nitrile alcohols (1–8) by lipases from Pseudomonas cepacia (PCL), Pseudomonas flurescens (LAK, made by Amano Enzyme Co. We used a 10-year record (1990–99) of composited and cloud-screened reflectances from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) to test for phenological differences between urban and rural areas in the eastern United States deciduous broadleaf forest (DBF). We hypothesized that well-documented urban heat island effects would be associated with alterations in temperature-sensitive vegetation phenology. Our objectives were thus (a) to investigate possible differences in the start of the growing season (SOS) and end of the growing season (EOS) between the urban and DBF land covers, (b) to investigate related differences in greenness amplitude and fractional cover, and (c) to develop a generalized additive model (GAM) to predict the spatial variation of observed differences. By analyzing individual 1° latitude by 1° longitude blocks, we found that, on average, urbanization is associated with a growing season expansion of 7.6 days. Most of this effect is caused by an earlier SOS in urban areas. In all cases, urban regions had lower fractional cover and greenness amplitude. The GAM model failed to produce a viable model for differences in EOS, probably because it is dominated by photoperiod controls with only a minor temperature impact. SOS differences were predicted with an accuracy of about 2.4 days, with a GAM consisting of smoothed functions of mean annual average temperature, urban fractional cover, and the urban vs DBF greenness amplitude difference. We speculate that evidence of a phenological response to warming indicates that global warming, without reduction in DBF vegetation cover and greenness amplitude, may increase carbon sequestration in mesic deciduous forests. Conflicts between biodiversity conservation and human activities are becoming increasingly apparent in all European landscapes. The intensification of agricultural and silvicultural practices, land abandonment and other land uses such as recreation and hunting are all potential threats to biodiversity that can lead to conflicts between stakeholder livelihoods and biodiversity conservation. To address the global decline in biodiversity there is, therefore, a need to identify the drivers responsible for conflicts between human activities and the conservation of European biodiversity and to promote the management of these conflicts. Here, the drivers of biodiversity conflicts are analysed in a European context for five habitat types: agricultural landscapes, forests, grasslands, uplands and freshwater habitats. A multi- disciplinary approach to conflict management is described, with active stakeholder involvement at every stage of conflict identification and management as well as a range of other approaches including stakeholder dialogue and education, consumer education, improvement of political and legislative frameworks, financial incentives, and planning infrastructure.  相似文献

We present a projected [1H,15N]-HMQC-[1H,1H]-NOESY experiment for observation of NOE interactions between amide protons with degenerate 15N chemical shifts in large molecular systems. The projection is achieved by simultaneous evolution of the multiple quantum coherence of the nitrogen spin and the attached proton spin. In this way NOE signals can be separated from direct-correlation peaks also in spectra with low resolution by fully exploiting both 1H and 15N frequency differences, such that sensitivity can be increased by using short maximum evolution times. The sensitivity of the experiment is not dependent on the projection angle for projections up to 45° and no additional pulses or delays are required as compared to the conventional 2D [1H,15N]-HMQC-NOESY. The experiment provides two distinct 2D spectra corresponding to the positive and negative angle projections, respectively. With a linear combination of 1D cross-sections from the two projections the unavoidable sensitivity loss in projection spectra can be compensated for each particular NOE interaction. We demonstrate the application of the novel projection experiment for the observation of an NOE interaction between two sequential glycines with degenerate 15N chemical shifts in a 121.3 kDa complex of the linker H1 histone protein with a 152 bp linear DNA.  相似文献

2-Substituted 4-chromanones were synthesized in their optically active forms. The chiral intermediates were obtained via lipase-catalyzed enantioselective reactions.
