Divalent cobalt coordination polymers containing both ortho-phenylenediacetate (ophda) and rigid dipyridyl ligands 4,4′-bipyridine (bpy) or 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (dpee) display different topologies depending on carboxylate binding mode, tether length, and inclusion of charged species. [Co(ophda)(H2O)(dpee)]n (1) displays a common (4,4) grid layer motif. Use of the shorter bpy tether afforded {[Co2(ophda)2(bpy)3(H2O)2][Co(bpy)2(H2O)4](NO3)2·2bpy·7H2O}n (2) or [Co(ophda)(bpy)]n (3) depending on cobalt precursor. Compound 2 manifests 5-connected [Co2(ophda)2(bpy)3(H2O)2]n pillared bilayer slabs with rare 4862 SnS topology and entrained [Co(bpy)2(H2O)4]2+ complex cations. The 3-D coordination polymer 3 has an uncommon 4,6-connected binodal (4462)(446108) fsc topology, and shows ferromagnetic coupling (J = +1.5(2) cm−1) along 1-D spiro-fused [Co(OCO)2]n chain submotifs.  相似文献

The coordination chemistry of the metalloligand [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4] towards cobalt(II) and cobalt(III) centres has been explored using an electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI MS)-directed methodology. Reaction of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4] with CoCl2·6H2O in methanol gave a green-yellow suspension of the known adduct [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4CoCl2], and the CoBr2 adduct could be similarly prepared. When in situ-generated [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4CoCl2] is reacted with 8-hydroxyquinoline (HQ) and base, the initial product is the cobalt(II) adduct [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4CoQ]+, which is then converted in air to the cobalt(III) adduct [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4CoQ2]+, isolated as its hexafluorophosphate salt. The corresponding picolinate (Pic) derivative [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4Co(Pic)2]+ was similarly prepared, however reaction of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4], CoCl2·6H2O and 8-(tosylamino)quinoline (HTQ) produced only the cobalt(II) adduct [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4CoTQ]+. Reactions of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4], CoCl2·6H2O and dithiocarbamates gave cobalt(III) complexes [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4Co(S2CNR2)2]+ [R = Et or R2 = (CH2)4], and proceeded much more rapidly, consistent with the known ability of the dithiocarbamate ligand to stabilize cobalt in higher oxidation states. A study of the fragmentation of cobalt(III) adducts by positive-ion ESI mass spectrometry indicated that [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4CoQ2]+ fragments to form the radical cation [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4]+, which could also be generated by ESI MS analysis of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4] in methanol-NaOH solution. In contrast, the corresponding indium(III) derivative [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4InQ2]+, and the cobalt(III) dithiocarbamate [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4Co(S2CN(CH2)4)2]+ are much more reluctant to fragment under analogous conditions, and the differences are discussed in terms of cobalt(III) redox chemistry.  相似文献

Hydrothermal synthesis has afforded cobalt 5-substituted isophthalate complexes with 4,4′-dipyridylamine (dpa) ligands, showing different dimensionalities depending on the steric bulk and hydrogen-bonding facility of the substituent. [Co(tBuip)(dpa)(H2O)]n (1, tBuip = 5-tert-butylisophthalate) is a (4,4) grid two-dimensional coordination polymer featuring 2-fold parallel interpenetration. [Co(MeOip)2(Hdpa)2] (2, MeOip = 5-methoxyisophthalate) is organized into 3-fold parallel interpenetrated (4,4) grids through strong N-H+?O hydrogen bonding. {([Co(OHip)(dpa)(H2O)3])3·2H2O}n (3, OHip = 5-hydroxyisophthalate) possesses 1-D chain motifs. The 5-methyl derivative {[Co(mip)(dpa)]·3H2O}n (4, mip = 5-methylisophthalate) has a 3-D 658 cds topology. {[Co(H2O)4(Hdpa)2](nip)2·2H2O} (5, nip = 5-nitroisophthalate) and {[Co(sip)(Hdpa)(H2O)4]·2H2O} (6, sip = 5-sulfoisophthalate) are coordination complexes. Antiferromagnetic superexchange is observed in 1 and 4, with concomitant zero-field splitting. Thermal decomposition behavior of the higher dimensionality complexes is also discussed.  相似文献

The reactions of CoCl2 with three equivalents of 2-(phenylimino)pyrrolyl sodium salts, performed under a nitrogen atmosphere, lead to the formation of the Co(III) complexes [Co(κ2N,N′-NC4H3C(H)N-C6H5)3] (2a), [Co(κ2N,N′-NC4H3C(CH3)N-C6H5)3] (2b) and [Co(κ2N,N′-NC16H9C(H)N-C6H5)3] (2c), accommodating three chelating iminopyrrolyl ligands. Complexes 2a-c were obtained in moderate yields, and their characterisation by 1H, 13C NMR and X-ray diffraction show they are diamagnetic and have an octahedral geometry about the cobalt centre, respectively. Uncharacterised products were obtained in the same reaction involving ligand precursors such as 2-(2,6-dimethylphenylimino)pyrrolyl sodium salts, which is attributed to a greater steric hindrance in the coordination of three of these bulkier ligands. The redox behaviour of complexes 2a-c shows an irreversible reduction wave with a peak potential in the range −3.2 to −3.7 V. Upon reduction, the complexes decompose giving rise, in the case of 2a, to a redox pattern compatible with the formation of [Co(κ2N,N′-NC4H3C(H)N-C6H5)2].  相似文献

A series of square planar cobalt(II) compounds bearing tetradentate β-ketoaminato ligands with variation in the number of ―CF3 ligand substituents has been prepared and structurally and spectroscopically characterized. The fluorinated β-ketoamine ligands were prepared utilizing a multistep reaction sequence employing a silylenol protecting group. An additional tetrahedral cobalt compound bearing two bidentate β-ketoaminato ligands was also prepared and characterized.Cytotoxic activity of the cobalt-containing complexes was evaluated using six human cell lines; including two different prostate cancer cell lines (PC-3 and VCaP), acute monocytic leukemia (THP-1), astrocytoma (U-373 MG), hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2), and neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells. The cobalt compounds are more active than their corresponding ligands. The activity is cell type specific; the cobalt compounds exhibit strong activity against human prostate cancer and monocytic leukemia cells but weak or no activity against neuroblastoma, astrocytoma, and liver carcinoma cells. Activity generally increases with a greater number of ―CF3 substituents, and square planar complexes exhibit greater activity than the tetrahedral derivative. The mechanisms of activity against human PC-3 prostate cancer cells involve caspase-3 and two different mitogen-activated protein kinases. The addition of a thiol antioxidant reduced cytotoxicity, suggesting the possible involvement of reactive oxygen species. These cobalt complexes may represent a novel class of cytotoxic drugs selective towards certain types of tumors.  相似文献

Coordination of a chiral substrate to (meso‐salen)cobalt(II) nitrate and subsequent oxidation generates a Co(III) complex exhibiting a strong chiroptical readout that is attributed to spontaneous substrate‐to‐ligand chirality imprinting. The characteristic circular dichroism (CD) response of the (salen)cobalt complex can be used for enantiomeric analysis of a variety of chiral substrates based on a simple CD measurement at low concentration and without additional purification steps. This chirality sensing approach has potential for high‐throughput enantiomeric excess (ee) screening applications and minimizes solvent waste production. Background

Malaria is an extremely devastating disease that continues to affect millions of people each year. A distinctive attribute of malaria infected red blood cells is the presence of malarial pigment or the so-called hemozoin. Hemozoin is a biocrystal synthesized by Plasmodium and other blood-feeding parasites to avoid the toxicity of free heme derived from the digestion of hemoglobin during invasion of the erythrocytes.

Scope of review

Hemozoin is involved in several aspects of the pathology of the disease as well as in important processes such as the immunogenicity elicited. It is known that the once best antimalarial drug, chloroquine, exerted its effect through interference with the process of hemozoin formation. In the present review we explore what is known about hemozoin, from hemoglobin digestion, to its final structural analysis, to its physicochemical properties, its role in the disease and notions of the possible mechanisms that could kill the parasite by disrupting the synthesis or integrity of this remarkable crystal.

Major conclusions

The importance and peculiarities of this biocrystal have given researchers a cause to consider it as a target for new antimalarials and to use it through unconventional approaches for diagnostics and therapeutics against the disease.

General significance

Hemozoin plays an essential role in the biology of malarial disease. Innovative ideas could use all the existing data on the unique chemical and biophysical properties of this macromolecule to come up with new ways of combating malaria.  相似文献

α-Tocopheryl succinate is one of the most effective analogues of vitamin E for inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing cell death in a variety of cancerous cell lines while sparing normal cells or tissues. αTocopheryl succinate inhibits oxidative phosphorylation at the level of mitochondrial complexes I and II, thus enhancing reactive oxygen species generation which, in turn, induces the expression of Nrf2-driven antioxidant/detoxifying genes. The cytoprotective role of Nrf2 downstream genes/proteins prompted us to investigate whether and how α-tocopheryl succinate increases resistance of PC3 prostate cancer cells to pro-oxidant damage. A 4 h α-tocopheryl succinate pre-treatment increases glutathione intracellular content, indicating that the vitamin E derivative is capable of training the cells to react to an oxidative insult. We found that α-tocopheryl succinate pre-treatment does not enhance paraquat-/hydroquinone-induced cytotoxicity whereas it exhibits an additional/synergistic effect on H2O2-/docetaxel-induced cytotoxicity.  相似文献

Near-infrared absorption spectra of A2CoX4 (A = Cs, ethyl4N; X = Cl, Br) single crystals and from KBr pellets at low temperature are recorded by the Fourier transform technique. At 2 K a rich fine structure of v1(4A24T2) and v2(4A24T1) ligand field spectra is detected which can be assigned to low symmetry level splittings due to actual site symmetries superimposed by vibrational fine structure. Comparison of fundamental frequencies obtained from far-infrared spectra allows an assignment of all peaks measured in the vibronic spectra to vibrational modes of the MX4 complex. Zero-phonon bands are identified using the assistance of angular overlap calculations.  相似文献
